The pineapple was chosen under ripe. We let it sit on the kitchen table until its' little pineapple butt passed the sniff test. My son cut off the pineapple crown and planted it on the deck. In two ýars we'll get one for free! He peeled of the outer skin, sliced it, and we ate after some decadent fried chicken. It tasted sweet, fruity but also floral. It is common to buy pineapples that have not matured and yet harvested for the market. I know this because I am a professional Agronomist who cultivated pineapples for many years in my previous role outside the US. I had to throw out both fruits because they were not mature and therefore failed to get ripped in storage. It may be difficult for Walmart to detect this but if a majority of customers go through the experiences that I often go through, it would not be good business for Walmart in the long-term and ultimately not got business for the farmers who think they are cheating their way through my harvesting their crop before it matures
