Almost Helmet of the yEAR

Great warmth, extremely comfortable in all areas except one.. the ears. The material around the ears is a harder fabric and for some reason causes moderate to severe ear pain. Really large oversight on the part of the manufacturer.I do love litter-ally everything else about the fit, functionality, and style of the helmet. I plan to cut the ear linings out and sew in a softer fabric before my next outing.

This helmet feels good on your head is very adjustable and hold the chips 3.0 very well. It seems like it gives more than adequate protection for the money and it’s all around a great helmet. The only thing keeping me from getting five stars from me is that it does not really work well with my anon m2 goggles. The visor sits a little low on me “even on the smallest setting.”Maybe I needed a medium rather than large. The giro goggles mesh up fine but The snow is so sparse in montana this year I’ll get new goggles next year. I would advise not getting the large unless your head is a pumpkin. Large means very large.

You need to be able to slide it to the side to shorten the chin strap, which is impossible with this design. For now, I've scrunched up the chin cushioning as much as possible to tighten the strap. If needed, I'll just use a seam ripper on that line of stitching so I can slide it over and tighten more.Fits perfectly with my older Smith goggles. Comfortable and still felt light after a full day on the mountain. Highly recommend.

Best Helmet on the Market in Every Way

Jumping straight to the elephant in the room: price. This is an expensive helmet, however, its price is a direct reflection of its performance. I'm a new skier and last year was my first season on the slopes. I was lucky enough to have the talent to progress quickly, but it came with lots and lots of wipeouts in between. I've tried out many helmets, but Giro's Grid was quite the standout. It is SO much lighter than anything I've tried on, it fits amazing, and most importantly does the absolute best job of protecting your head when you need it most. I've had many park wipeouts and the Grid really did a great job of keeping my head secure. Added bonuses, it works seamlessly with my goggles, magnetic clip makes it easy to strap on without taking my mittens off, and it ... MoreJumping straight to the elephant in the room: price. To repeat what was said in a previous review, this helmet is worth the extra bucks. You will not regret this purchase.

Great helmet!

I had the opposite experience as the reviewer below. I purchased an Anon and a Smith helmet prior, both of which cause pain in the temple region. The moral of the story is to buy the helmet that fits your head. This thing fits my head like a glove! Also, super light! The price is steep, but you get what you pay for with the quality.

Magnetic catch - Nice
17 February 2024

Love my new GIRO Mips helmet. It adjusts easily, is comfortable and warm. The off white color works for me. I especially like the magnetic catch on the chin strap. I am good to go and feel safer too.

Pricey but worth it - light, comfortable, and adjustable
4 January 2022

This is a very comfortable helmet that will keep you warm and has adjustable airflow. Sizing is pretty true. It has nice padding/lining unlike some other helmets I've tried. I also really love the magnetic closure. Took me a little bit of time to realize how it functions but now is super useful. This helmet is also pretty light so I didn't really even notice I was wearing it. I still think it's a bit pricey but it is worth it and I'm happy with my decision.

Spend the extra money and buy the best brain protection
21 July 2022

If you've never had a hospital level concussion, you may think you should save a few bucks and buy a cheaper helmet. Please don't.This helmet isn't expensive because it has bells and whistles, it has GIRO's new Spherical MIPS. Two separate inner shells that move independently, dissipating the rotational impact and sending it into the helmet instead of your skull and neck. A huge jump in tech compared to traditional MIPS.Skip the bar for two weeks and spend the extra $100. You really don't want a brain injury. It only takes one fall.

Uncomfortable fit causes headaches
6 January 2022

I was really stoked to get this and had been eyeing it for a while. At the price point it should be flawless but unfortunately it's not. Overall really disappointed that a $260 MSRP helmet doesn't meet the basic comfort test. Giro really missed the mark on this one IMO. Returned.First the good: This is a top-of-the-line helmet from Giro with MIPS, which helps keep your noggin from rotating too much in a twisting collision. The design looks super cool and the venting system is well designed and the top vent slider to open/close works well. The Grid helmet fit my Giro Contact goggles perfectly with no obvious gap. The Fidlock buckle is neat and seems to work pretty well single handed, although that wasn't really a selling point for me. The Fidlock buckle is neat and seems to work pretty well single handed, although that wasn't really a selling point for me. Giro claims this is a new "spherical" MIPS system, however I'm skeptical it's a real improvement as noted below.Cons: The liner is too bulky and right out of the box, it bunches around the temples. At first I thought that was just from shipping, but when I put it on, I quickly found that underneath those bunchy areas Giro had the brilliant idea of putting small plastic pieces that push right into your temples, which cause immediate discomfort and I had a minor headache within like 30 seconds of wearing this helmet (each time I stubbornly tried it on, thinking it would be different the next time but it wasn't). I tried various configurations with the neck strap, pulling the liner down tighter, and I had my wife try it on to see if I'm crazy but she had the same experience. I even bought a second one just to make sure. This is a design flaw and I strongly recommend against this, at least from a comfort perspective.

great fit and comfy

Giro is the only company that accomodate my oval shaped head. Second. I owned a size small until I started skiing in higher elevation and small got too small. I was using it on the looser setting. Medium of course fits, but even tight, not snug like the small. Specially worn on its own.I read a review about the earpads being rough...I have no idea if that person have ears made out of chocolate or porcelain but this was not an issue at all. It is polyester, not bulky, not wooly, just minimalist and confy. Less bacterias than fuzzy fabric. It is warm if needed and super light. One of the lightest option out there for downhill ski. I do not feel anything on. Great!

Giro has designed the Grid MIPS, which drops heavy, labouring weight to give you a lid with enhanced safety that checks in at only 400 grams. Giro achieves this grin-inducing weight even with the addition of MIPS Spherical, which sees two layers of EPS foam rotating independently during an impact to provide enhanced protection. A boost to comfort with Polartec Power Grid padding, removable ear pads, and audio compatibility for Giro systems by Outdoor Tech. A Fidlock buckle securely clicks so you can keep your hands gloved and warm, and adjustable venting opens up to keep you fresh on tour back to the top for another run.
