Great looking helmet and enough room to put stickers on to personalise it to the child’s liking (which makes it easy to find them if they decide to bolt). Seems to have all the safety bells and whistles of an adult helmet. Fit is great the helmet itself is very light and doesn’t seem to weigh down my sons head at all, there’s also a lot of room for growing. My 18mth old son is getting use to wearing it every time we take it out and he is starting to understand he has to wear it when he wants to ride his scooter. Took me about 4-5 wears to dial in the fit to his head which I thought was really good. Highly recommended this over a skater style bucket helmet at a young age but still looks cool enough to wear.

Unfortunately I learned the hard way that the size chart linked by Backcountry is incorrect. The chart lists five sizes for bike helmets:- S / M- M / L- TODDLER- UNIVERSAL CHILD- UNIVERSAL YOUTHAs you can see there is on XS or S which are the two sizes you can purchase this helmet in. The size chart in the link does have an XS and S in the snow helmets. So basically you are left guessing what size these helmets are. I assumed it would be the same as the XS (48.5 - 52cm) and S (52 - 55.5cm) snow helmets.Unfortunately after purchasing the XS for my daughter (who has a 50mm head circumference) the item arrived and the box listed it as 45 - 49 cm. So now I have to return it which means:- waiting longer to get the right sized helmet- losing $6 since I have to ... MoreUnfortunately I learned the hard way that the size chart linked by Backcountry is incorrect. I love how it is adjustable not only with the dial adjustment but also the straps can also be adjusted through the back of the head loop to move the clasp too. My little ones head is a little l on the larger size and slightly rounder than most I believe but it still fits well. He’s 2 years old. The quality is amazing.. you can really feel the difference between this and many other types of helmets. The colour is a matte black which is what I prefer. Overall a very nice looking helmet. The one thing I’m a little concerned about is they say the tip of the front of the helmet should pass the nose of the child... this one barely passes my little ones nose.Overall just make sure you measure the size of your child’s head. This will ensure you get an accurate fit.

The Scamp helmet has been great. Fits true to size, and my kid loves the fun colours. I mainly write this review to warn about the really poor customer service I received from Altitude Sports. Rude and condescending customer service agents. I would encourage shoppers to consider Primeau Velo, which offers the same prices with MUCH more helpful customer service.
I bought this helmet on sale for my baby girl in two sizes because it was such a good deal. I have a Giro helmet myself that I researched and chose because of the great reviews, so I loved the idea of her having a Giro as well. I had read some bad reviews on this youth helmet about how it ripped out people's kids hair, but I haven't had any problems with it doing that..the inside of the helmet has a cushion covering all the pieces that might pull hair. So I am glad I decided to purchase the helmet despite the handful of bad reviews. Our little girl looks adorable in her helmet and doesn't seem to mind wearing it. We are happy with it and the way it protects her head in case anything ever happened while riding bikes.
Bought for our 9mo old to go for a ride in his Yepp seat. Love the coverage and the adjustable internal cage. Affordable MIPS helmet. Cute print. Nice and lightweight. Chin strap adjusted small enough to be secure. Selected because it is one of the smaller sized XS on the market.
Bought this because our son outgrew his XS Scamp (non-MIPS) helmet. We liked that helmet a lot, so we bought the next size up. Unfortunately, we couldn't adjust this to fit his head snugly – at 49cm, it wouldn't sit on his head. When we increased the size, it was too loose. We were never able to adjust it to fit him; to add insult to injury, the little yellow "buttons" inside would pull out his hair each time he wore it. We returned it, and got a helmet from a different manufacturer instead
We had an earlier, non-MIPS version of the Scamp in an XS when my daughter was a baby/toddler that we liked the fit of. Excited to see this new version, so when she outgrew the XS, we tried on and picked up the S at REI. I've been super disappointed with this version though. I love the idea of added safety features, but the MIPS "buttons" or whatever they are called pull my daughter's hair out every time we remove the helmet. There are chunks of hair in it and she cringes each time so I have to be super careful. The older kids' version of the Giro MIPS helmet has a soft covering over those, not sure why this one is missing that. We also have a hard time keeping this one placed right on her head, it always wants to slide down. When she wears her big sister's, it ... MoreWe had an earlier, non-MIPS version of the Scamp in an XS when my daughter was a baby/toddler that we liked the fit of. Great helmet nice design, looks super safe a lot more coverage of my daughters head than her old one.I struggle with tightening the back as it seems to be hidden up inside the helmet. I think if you loosen it first then tighten it might work. There's also a super long bit of excess strap that flaps around and I haven't worked out how to put that away.
Our daughter turned two, we got the extra small and the fit is great with room to grow. I’m crossing my fingers that we never pinch her with the buckle. It would be great to have a magnetic closure. But it wasn’t a deal breaker since we’re happy it’s a MIPS helmet, it’s not bulky, it’s extremely lightweight, and fits like a glove so will keep her safe. The colours and the designs aren’t as attractive or minimal as other kids helmets, but was willing to overlook for the fit/quality. The one we got is very cute in person (black with flowers) and she loves wearing it.
