A good helmet with an issue.

The helmet is a good fit. The ventilation is excellent too. I've owned several helmets with MIPS with no problems. But when riding over rough roads, I find this one rattles quite badly. On long stretches of bad road it becomes quite annoying! I'll have to find a way to stop the inner and outer shell from knocking against each another.

An outstanding, no-compromise helmet

I recently sold my otherwise-lovely Kask Mojito because, try as I might, I just couldn't get comfy in it. I looked at a variety of brands and models at the same price point, but foolishly tried on the Synthe in a store and fell instantly in love. It's rare to get something to fit my oval-shaped head but this felt so right. Oh why are the nice things so expensive? And let's get one thing clear; this is an obscene amount of money for a piece of polystyrene... even at the price I got it on sale. Furthermore it has awesome ventilation - even better than the almost-not-there Mojito. And then there's the design. For me, this is the first helmet that I actually like to wear. Unlike most of Spesh's designs - with perhaps the exception of the similar-looking Airnet - I avoid looking like a Meekon. I'd go so far to say it actually looks good - even on my bonce.All-in-all, it's fantastic. Really happy with it.(PS; I got the matt black)

By far the best road helmet I’ve owned.

Cool as a cucumber!
24 June 2021

As a Giro Cinder helmet owner I wanted something that was going to be more suitable for the summer months. I looked at various brand from Sweet Protection, Bontrager, Poc, Specialized, Mavic, HJC & Giro. After a lot of consideration I decided to stick with Giro as I’d been mega happy with my Cinder Helmet. Well I’m glad I did. The Aether is a fabulous helmet. It’s vents work really well keeping my head cool and it looks ace too. The MIPS system is very clever with the shell having movement as opposed a plastic insert. Which means in an accident at the point of impact the MIPS will deflect some of the impact instead of slightly afterwards. And milliseconds will count in this situation. It’s well fitting and very adjustable. It is slightly narrower than the Cinder ... MoreAs a Giro Cinder helmet owner I wanted something that was going to be more suitable for the summer months. It’s well fitting and very adjustable. It is slightly narrower than the Cinder (maybe as it hasn’t got the MIPS insert) but still a good fit for someone with a more rounded head. It’s also super lightweight too. My head circumference measures about 59cm & I went for a medium like my Cinder and it fits fine. I was tempted to size up as it is on the cusp of a large size, but I’m glad I didn’t as I didn’t want it to be loose at the smallest adjustment.

Fits me great but it is hot!
24 January 2022

Pros - this helmet fits me great and is comfortableCons - poor ventilation and sweat managementThis was bought to replace an original Giro Synthe which was a great helmet. The Synthe II fits my head great and is very comfortable on long rides. However it has little ventilation and so runs super hot and my head sweats buckets when I wear it, even in the depths of winter. It also has no sweat management system sweat streaming down my face once the forehead liner cant hold any more. This helmet is great as it is comfortable on long rides, but I wont be wearing it when summer rolls around.

Great helmet with spherical MIPS
31 May 2023

Bought this helmet as I had to return a POC Octal MIPS due to sizing. Straight out of the box it fits great. I noted some of the other issues raised about it sitting low and yes, it does sit low but nothing that interferes with my sutros. The cradle at the back is certainly sharp and was digging into my head until I adjusted it midway through my ride. Once I did this, no issues. Great helmet, light, ventilates well!

Great helmet – not so great price
20 September 2018

This is, without doubt, the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn; it's also the lightest. Ventilation is so good I probably won't wear it in winter. It also looks great – slightly reminiscent of the 'hairnet' helmets of old. It's really very expensive though and, in a high-speed crash scenario, I'm not sure it would offer any more protection than a much cheaper helmet. I'm also not convinced that the MIPS thing isn't just a passing fad (I tried to get a non-MIPS version cheaper).Despite the above, Sigma offered it at a competitive price and even gave me a further discount as I'd found it cheaper elsewhere online. I was a bit disappointed that they gave me the display model. I understand that research and development cost a lot of money, but still think this ... MoreThis is, without doubt, the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn; it's also the lightest. Not very comfortable
21 April 2023

Helmet looks good and is nice and light but sits too low on the head despite perfect fit. Retention/fit system is also sharp and uncomfortable despite appearing to be identical to the very comfy one in my Giro Synthe. Had to use a nail file to soften the edges of the rear fit system which helped a hit but it still digs in even when loose.

Perfect

Second purchase of this helmet after live crash test of the first one was successful... spherical MIPS protecting my brain A**.Fits my egg shaped head perfectly. Literally like an egg in a cup. Super comfortable, crucially stayed in correct position on my head during crash - I attribute this to the amazing fit and adjustability.Space for thick ponytail and great storage for glasses. ++ stylish, not too roadie! What more do you want.

Very comfortable but some issues.
29 May 2023

My wife bought me this as a Christmas present but only just started using it as the weather has warmed up. Pros. very comfortable, good ventilation. Cons. sits very low on the head and only just above my sunglasses although not a problem when riding but a little difficult putting sunglasses on compared to previous Giro Atmos helmet. Helps to put sunglasses on before pulling helmet fully on. The roc loc system was a little uncomfortable at first, tugging at my hair at the back, but now seems to have settled down. Would have been nice to have a height adjustable roc loc as on Atmos helmet.Would I buy it again? Not sure. Would probably try to find another Giro that sits a lttle higher on the head.
