A good helmet with an issue.

The helmet is a good fit. The ventilation is excellent too. I've owned several helmets with MIPS with no problems. But when riding over rough roads, I find this one rattles quite
badly. On long stretches of bad road it becomes quite annoying! I'll have to find a way to stop the inner and outer shell from knocking against each another.

I'm a long-time Giro helmet user as they fit my head perfectly. I decided it was time to upgrade to a MIPS helmet and BikeInn had the best price for the Aether. It's way lighter
than I thought it would be, has excellent ventilation and is super comfy. I can hardly tell that it's on my head. The sunglasses holder is a must, too!

My last Giro helmet of 6 years, a Savant, did not vent very well but was super comfortable. Switching to the Synthe I found it very comfortable too, forgetting it's there. At first I
didn't think it was venting very well but after riding 1000 kms I haven't had sweat drip down my face like before and don't notice my head being hot until I've come to a stop;
trying different positions and head tilt I definitely notice it does let the air move through well. I run on the hot side and find it quite comfortable down to 6C without added
layers and as long as I'm moving it has kept me cool at 28C. I'm still on the fence regarding MIPS, my scalp is a natural slip plane, but it doesn't seem to hinder t... Show more

Riding at speed or in 50 km/h winds there isn't noticeable additional noise generated, seems to be pretty quite in this respect. Fit wise my 54cm-ish head, which is a bit on the oval side, fits great in the small with enough adjustment that I should be able to use a headband when cooler days come in the fall. The straps adjusted easily and are quite soft and flexible, I haven't had to readjust since the initial setup. The only issue I really have with this helmet is the price, but I guess there are more factors to the cost of some products that we don't see beyond the materials used, such as research and development; in the case of the Synthe Giro seems to have done their due diligence and put out a very refined product.... Consistent Excellence

Fit and comfort vary radically with brands and even between models within the same helmet maker. Giro helmets have been the most comfortable helmets for my pumpkin sized head. This is my second one with the MIPS system. It takes a bit of time to dial in the straps, but one set up, this helmet is excellent.... Show more

Cool as a cucumber!
24 June 2021
As a Giro Cinder helmet owner I wanted something that was going to be more suitable for the summer months. I looked at various brand from Sweet Protection, Bontrager, Poc, Specialized, Mavic, HJC & Giro. After a lot of consideration I decided to stick with Giro as I’d been mega happy with my Cinder Helmet. Well I’m glad I did. The Aether is a fabulous helmet. It’s vents work really well keeping my head cool and it looks ace too. The MIPS system is very clever with the shell having movement as opposed a plastic insert. Which means in an accident at the point of impact the MIPS will deflect some of the impact instead of slightly afterwards. And milliseconds will count in this situation. It’s well fitting and very adjustable. It is slightly narrower than the Cinder ... MoreAs a Giro Cinder helmet owner I wanted something that was going to be more suitable for the summer months. It’s well fitting and very adjustable. It is slightly narrower than the Cinder (maybe as it hasn’t got the MIPS insert) but still a good fit for someone with a more rounded head. It’s also super lightweight too. My head circumference measures about 59cm & I went for a medium like my Cinder and it fits fine. I was tempted to size up as it is on the cusp of a large size, but I’m glad I didn’t as I didn’t want it to be loose at the smallest adjustment.... Show more

Fits me great but it is hot!
24 January 2022
Pros - this helmet fits me great and is comfortableCons - poor ventilation and sweat managementThis was bought to replace an original Giro Synthe which was a great helmet. The Synthe II fits my head great and is very comfortable on long rides. However it has little ventilation and so runs super hot and my head sweats buckets when I wear it, even in the depths of winter. It also has no sweat management system sweat streaming down my face once the forehead liner cant hold any more. This helmet is great as it is comfortable on long rides, but I wont be wearing it when summer rolls around.... Great Replacement for an Aging Helmet
26 September 2020
My last helmet was offered by Specialized and I loved it. It was comfortable, cool and came with various additional reflecting tape strips that you could put on as you wished. (I added a couple of pieces to the front and the back and, in low light, they really helped.) I did a bunch of RAGBRAI's with it and it performed very well. However, I was nagged by my ride buddy to get a new one - as it was 9 years old. My local bike shop echoed that sentiment so I looked at several brands and got the Syntax in yellow & white. It was the only helmet in the shop that I liked right off and fit very well - Size L. I also was pleased that it rated highly in Va. Tech's helmet ratings getting 5 stars for safety. So far, so good. Light, Comfortable, Quiet, Stylish!

It "disappears" on your head. I had previously used Bontrager lite weight helmet, for years, but this one's more than thirty grams lighter. Its very comfortable and has lots of adjustability. I was a bit concerned because some said it didn't fit their head, but mine fit me as though my head had been used as the pattern. It was advertised as Small/Medium, but I can adjust it looser, to allow for a cycling cap, headsweat or any other head cover I'm likely to use. One feature not often commented on is wind noise. I believe this helmet is MUCH quieter than my previous helmets. The noise around my previous helmet prevented me to hear other rider's comments, unless I was right beside them, and they were yelling. Not now though! The MIPS system is one feature I hope I ... MoreIt "disappears" on your head. Not now though! The MIPS system is one feature I hope I never use(the local bike shop once kept a couple of my crashed helmets on display, just to show new riders what can happen when your head hits the pavement at only twenty mph), but I'm convinced its a better/safer system than what was on ANY previous helmet I've worn. Finally, its a really good looking helmet that doesn't look goofy on your head. I bought it because a very good rider in my club recommended it, and ended up with one exactly like hers, 'cause I really liked the color combination(matte white, lime, flame) and the contrast was very visible on the road. Looks great, fits great, and MIPS safety!

I ride about 4,000 miles per year and did a lot of research when it came time to update my helmet. The Synthe shows up on just about every best helmet list. It's light weight, comfortable and looks sharp. Good sunglass retention and like that the V part of the straps around the ear is adjustable. I'm normally at the high end of the Medium size but because of the MIPS system and wanting to have room for caps, I went with the Large and it's perfect. Have had trouble locating the size and color I wanted until I spotted this one on Moosejaw, one of my go to sites for outdoor gear. My only negative is that the one I received had a "Display" sticker on the box and a noticeable scuff mark on the front of the helmet. Second purchase of this helmet after live crash test of the first one was successful... spherical MIPS protecting my brain A**.Fits my egg shaped head perfectly. Literally like an egg in a cup. Super comfortable, crucially stayed in correct position on my head during crash - I attribute this to the amazing fit and adjustability.Space for thick ponytail and great storage for glasses. ++ stylish, not too roadie!
