Whether you’re bombin’ down the mountain, going for a KOM, or just cruising the trails, you should have a helmet on your head to protect your noggin. The Giro Tyrant MIPS Helmet is designed to meet the needs of today’s progressive trail riders. The Tyrant has Wind Tunnel Ventilation and MIPS Spherical technology that utilizes a pair of foam layers that work like a ball and socket to redirect impact energy in a crash. The EPS foam helps protect during high-speed crashes and the EPP foam takes care of low-speed crashes. With the Roc Loc Air fit system, you can easily dial in the perfect fit. Features Hardshell with in-mold polycarbonate creates a sturdier helmet Roc Loc Air makes it easy to dial in the perfect fit Technologies MIPS Integrated - MIPS (multi-directional impact protection system) allows you to customize fit/feel for great stability and long-range comfort while providing an added measure of protection from rotational forces in the event of an angled impact. Tool-Free Bolt on Visor – Easily adjustable without the need for tools or extra fiddling, and offers plenty of vertical adjustment to stage goggles when you are not wearing them Spherical Technology - Spherical Technology’s Ball-and-Socket design, powered by MIPS, helps redirect impact forces away from the brain by allowing the outer liner to rotate around the inner liner during a crash. It also eliminates contact with hard plastic or slip-planes against the skin. Progressive Layering – Two different materials are used to manage impact energy, One layer is EPS, which is well suited to high-speed crashes. The other is a lower density EPP foam with rebound characteristics to address low-speed, roll-around-in-the-dirt-type spills. Awesome Airflow, Feels Safe Helmet

I was using a road cycling helmet after just getting into Mountain Biking. I have been loving MTB and so I thought I would get a more robust helmet after a few falls. I'm not a downhill thrasher by any means, as most of our area is technical and rooty and I'm still learning. So... I wasn't thinking I was doing anything to warrant a full face and chin guard helmet. I went with this helmet since my road helmet is also a Giro. This helmet fits well and has lots of airflow. I don't notice wearing it on the trail, but others notice me in the hi-vis yellow! I am happy that Giro provides the thicker ear pads in their materials. I swapped them out for a more snug fit, though my friend who also has the helmet prefers the space the thinner pads provide. Awesome helmet. I purchased a large. Fit is great and has a lot of adjustability. My head is 58mm and normally shaped. The helmet does not sit too high or too low. I got the Potaro Grey color and it looks great. It has a slight Blue/Grey tint. You can wear wireless headphones with it too. I have AirPods and they fit. The visor also has a lot of adjustability up and down. I wear 100% S3 glasses and they fit awesome with no "gapping" and no rubbing on the frames or arms. The helmet vents well, but not as much as a traditional one. That said, I have not felt too hot. Overall great helmet.

I've ridden and played with off road motorbikes most of my life now playing with electric full suspension pedal assist bikes and loving the outdoors the distance and trails I can get to that motorcycles aren't allowed to use. Anyway I prefer open face helmets this is a quality helmet with excellent design and construction with the side and rear of the head protection I wanted. It's an Injection moulded outer shell not a thin thermoformed skin and two independent layers of EPS/EPP foam bead protection the interface between them being the MIPS technology. It's more of a lightweight motorbike helmet than bicycle helmet.

Great full coverage helmet with MIPS
20 October 2020

Fits great and the dial adjustment at the back really helps keep everything snug. The visor has a wide range of motion, which is nice. The spherical MIPS system is also nice because everything is integrated in between the shell and foam, which allows for better placement of the helmet padding. There are minimal vents but haven't noticed that its hotter than a regular helmet. Peripheral vision is great and on par with standard half-cut trail helmets. This helmet offers similar looks to a skate helmet or classic BMX open face compared to some other MTB helmets that are styled more like road bike helmet.Only reason for 4 stars is: No place to put sunglasses when not wearing them and sometimes the helmet outer shell shifts slightly (because of the MIPS system) if you ... MoreFits great and the dial adjustment at the back really helps keep everything snug. Great helmet NOT for long oval heads
4 December 2022

I was stoked to get something like this for better protection than the average cross country style MTB helmet. However it doesn’t fit my long oval head. Nice quality though, and I like the full adjustment visor.

Great helmet for ear protection
14 August 2021

I wanted a helmet with ear protection after one too many close calls threading the needle through tree slots and the Giro Tyrant had the features I wanted for a reasonable price. It's heavy compared to other bike helmets and ventilation isn't the best but considering the head coverage it provides and its apparent durability it's surprisingly comfortable. I've worn it when temps were mid 80's F. and high humidity and didn't feel like my head was in a sauna. You mainly notice the weight and ventilation when climbing but it's not a big deal. My one complaint is I had to modify the mounting slots and inner rim on the visor so it would sit low enough to actually block the sun. Overall it's a great helmet since I can now ride through the oaks and maples with confidence. :-)

Reasonable compromise btwn half shell and full face
30 October 2020

A recent wipeout encouraged me to up my helmet game. I replaced my Bell 2R (never really seemed to use the chin piece) with this Giro and overall I'm happy with the change in helmet style and the increased protection. The fit is really good and adjustment is easy via a dial at the back. I haven't tried it in full summer temperatures but so far it seems the top vents work well and my head isn't the sweaty mess I feared. The extra material at the base and the ears is occasionally annoying compared to the half shell- I found the helmet snagging/rubbing on my clothes and pack and it irritated me at times. Lots of conflicts with the ponytail. But, obviously these are the tradeoffs with the extra protection and that was the priority for this choice. I was worried the extra lid at the ear would make hearing hard, but that is not the case. Bonus, it doesn't look bulky or stupid.

The Only Helmet You'll Ever Need
8 May 2020

There is plenty of venting; its light enough, and the vented ear coverage on the sides should be on all helmets! The strap has a quick-click connection making it easy and simple to strap in. Visor is adjustable. The ear coverage does not interfere with hearing. This helmet is suitable for mountain biking, gravel roads and even road riding.I have been mountain biking for over 30 years, and until GIro reworked the Switchblade, I wore an old-school BMX over the ears solid helmet, and have never overheated.I still wear it when its cool or cold. The Tyrant is only the 2nd actual mtn biking helmet I have owned. Better coverage than the Fox Dropframe. Get this Helmet!

great fit and more protection
18 May 2023

helmet fit instantly right out of the box. ordered a medium and i didn't have to fiddle much on the adjustment. extra pads were included in the purchase. product is well thought of and in addition to the mips technology the additional extended coverage on the side of the face and ears may be subtle but is enough to provide additional confidence and looks great too.
