Whisky wouldn’t be my first choice of alcoholic drink, as I find there is often a really nasty after-burn in the back of the throat. This one, however, is completely different. It smells amazing, rich and biscuitty, and is lovely and smooth, no burn at all. My husband enjoyed it on the rocks (the bigger the ice cube the better as they melt slower and so don’t dilute it too much) and I made an amazing Manhattan cocktail by mixing 2 parts of it to one part of red vermouth and a dash of bitters. Definitely recommended!! It comes in a beautiful teal coloured box as well so easy to wrap if you're wanting to give it as a gift.

I don’t understand why anyone would adulterate this drink with mixtures of anything other than ice and water. The taste is good by itself. This is a totally different type of malt to those I would normally drink. Not altered by the previous contents of the maturation barrels, this is a light almost citrus whisky on the nose with almost nuttiness from the oak. On the palate it is again slightly citrus with light vanilla from the oak but incredibly smooth. Not the longest finish, but all the citrus & vanilla flavours are still there.

I was given a bottle of this by a friend of my wife. It was left over from an event that they had. At first, I didn't like it but after a neck pour I left it alone for a month. Figured that I would use it as a mixer. I tried it again and it tasted much better. Not the same level as more expensive scotches I drink, but a good daily drinker.I just bought another bottle. At this price it is a five.
For years I worked and traveled with an older gentleman who drank 12yr Glenlivet exclusively. He passed away, and now I'm curious what he drank and liked all those years.How to pick a star rating for this? Two stars? Three stars? Four stars? There's a hint of sweetness, a hint of fruitiness, a hint of alcohol burn... But no hint of peat or smoke, which I crave in a good Scotch. All of the flavors are mild. And I've gotten less 'bite' from other whiskies that featured higher apv %.There's nothing wrong with it, and it's pleasing enough, but I really thought there'd be more to it.

Nose: Ripe banana, banana bread, vanilla and charred wood from the side, Fruit and blossom with a touch of toffee.Palate: It starts off smoothly with a sudden hit of sweet orange and lemon zest. The sweetness is almost like chocolate. A very mild burst of char and oak spice. No harshness at all. The heat is mild and delicate, feeling warm.Finish: Sweetness lingers, like honey, juicy pear.Comment: This is a very smooth whisky full of friendly characters. It's aromatic, light and sweet. I believe this is one of the best in this flavor camp. In the similar price range, this dram is more gentle than Glenmorangie 10 yo - less spicy, less heat, less astringency, but more sweetness and more easy flavors and smells to enjoy.

What you WILL get are the equally loved qualities of Speyside - some would say here you will find THE definitive Speyside flavours. This Malt is lighter and golden both in the aromas and mouth but also in its mood. It has fruitiness, sweetness and vanilla and is exceptionally smooooth. I personally wouldn't insult such craftsmanship by adding any more than a small drop of water (which will give you the best flavour experience) or alternatively neat over ice. That's tradition, baby... I tend to lean a little more towards Glenlivet than Glenfiddich, it feels like there's a little more all around in Glenlivet, both are quite approachable scotches and I find myself using Glenlivet more and more in Scotch based cocktails. We save the Islay and other peaty or Highland sherry bombs malts for neat drams...
Got a bottle from my brother on my birthday. I'm not much of a scotch drinker preferring bourbon neat. Well, I just polished off a couple ounces of this Glenlevet 12 and I gotta say it's darn good. Easy aroma with a lemony kinda note. Definite peaty scotch taste but subtle and a smooth warm finish. No real heat, just a slow warmth that I really like. I've had Famous Grouse Black and it's heavy on the peat flavor but this Glenlivet comes in under that. You cannot mistake the scotch taste up front. No harsh aftertaste at all. Kinda leaves the tongue blank. Great sipper neat! Highly recommend !
