Global 2 Stage Ceramic Water Sharpener (Black)

So far, I’ve used it a couple of times and it works well for Global knives and other brands as well. I can’t comment on how many uses or how long it will be before the wheels will need to be replaced. So, I am currently satisfied with the product.

A reason to buy this?

If you have professional knives in your kitchen, don't ruin them with knife sharpeners that may change the angle on the cutting edge. Invest in stones and some time learning how to sharpen knives properly. Oddly therapeutic. Great results.

Bought as wedding gift, then bought one as a result!

I originally bought this as a wedding gift for a friend whose new husband loves to cook, and after extensive research chose this knife sharpener over other brands. I had such good feedback that it was good quality and easy to use, that I bought one for myself. So glad I did!

Easy and safe to use

I was afraid of my older version from another source and manufacturer. Both my husband and I felt like we would cut either ourselves or the countertop when we pulled the knives through. As it aged it also took to chewing up the blades and when you pay as much as we have over 5 decades for knives this is BAD. This new one has felt safe, both to knives and to us, and has sharpened everything while chewing up nothing. WIN! We are especially grateful because the 3 places within 10 miles of our home which shaprened knives have closed permanently.

Great Option for Those Who Are Not Stone-skilled

I have two Global knives as well a larger set of Shun's and older Henckels, but have never learned proper sharpening with stones, so need a viable alternative. This sharpener seems superior to the others of this general pull-through type. The water tray and two stone coarse/fine makes sense. What I cannot answer is whether this is only suited to the edge on Global knives which have a continuous taper to the cutting edge rather than a bevel near the edge, as would have been true of the original edge on my Shun's. The clear cover for the water area that also serves as the blade guide is lightweight so tends to pop open if you're not careful, but that is a minor quibble.

Perfect to have

I love this sharpener. It’s perfect for my global knives. It sharpens them easily and I like that it holds the blade at the correct angle. It’s safe and small, it doesn’t take up a lot of space in my drawer.Well worth the investment.

Practical and versatile

The stone itself does the job and it's great to have both fine and coarse finish in the same tool. It takes practice to achieve a good result but this has nothing to do with the product itself. The two tools to grab the knife were either not helpful or counterproductive. The case is not just to store the stone but helps holding it in place when sharpening.

Very useful in a professional kitchen

Not too sure if it makes blades any sharper than the less expensive Chantry knife sharpener. Looks impressive but not suitable for small kitchen knives ie blade width less than 25mm. Also not for scissors. Smart & sleek. Probably worth persevering with.
