Disclaimer, I have not tried the new raspberry flavor yet. That said, the other two flavors (orange pineapple and grapefruit) are amazing. This summer has been brutally hot, so I'm been drinking liter nalgene bottles full of Hydrate. I rotate back and forth between the two flavors, choosing the grapefruit when I need something a little less sweet. There are many hydration mixed out there for you to pick from. Where Gnarly really shines is in the flavor and the potency. Where other companies have you mixing a lot of product, the scooper in Gnarly Hydrate is noticeably smaller. A little too sweet for my tastes so I just use one "heaping" scoop, rather than the recommended two. I might be compromising on the effectiveness of the product by decreasing but so far I haven't noticed anything detrimental. I was using the Skratch labs Hydration product, and for the most part, I like it. But price per serving, the Gnarly is about 25% less cost so I'll give this a try for a little while.

I've been using this electrolyte mix for years and I've tried many other popular brands. The Orange Pineapple is my favorite flavor though all are great. The reason I like this one is because it's low in sugar. 9/10 times I don't need added sugar for fueling, electrolytes do just fine. The product tastes AMAZING and has a perfect ratio of sodium/potassium/magnesium that the typical athlete loses during high-output or hot activity. My only complaint is it doesn't come in a bigger package - this is the type of product I'd buy in bulk at Costco. Also, from a brand perspective, Gnarly is on their A-game when it comes to sustainability and putting their money into conservation, especially locally here in Utah.

I have just discovered Gnarly in the last couple of months and am very much enjoying the brand! The flavor balance on these Gnarly mixes is spot on. Enough flavor to not taste diluted, but not too much salt. I am a trail runner and use these for most of my workouts - except for the super sweaty summer runs when I move to higher concentrated products, or the weekly long runs where I default to Tailwind or Scratch. But these will be in my year round rotation now.
Unfortunately the Salted Margarita flavor was just not very good. I've been searching for some hydration that does resemble a margarita but this just isn't it. Tasted gritty even after really mixing into my water and it left a weird taste afterwards. It's promising at first, but I felt like I really had to force myself to finish the glass. Am I more hydrated? Probably. But I wouldn't buy again.
Its lemonade. I'm very picky and like a potent lemon smack when I drink Lemonade, so for me it wasnt stellar. But it did taste like a weaker lemonade to me. I actually have been enjoying mixing this with the raspberry flavor for raspberry lemonade. Still good, just not as much of a flavor punch as I would prefer. Definitely a good add in mixer.
Things I noticed:-It foams: As a road and trail runner, this stuff got the suds. You'll be turning your bottle upside down to get at the juice. And refilling sucks, that foam gets all over the place.-Flavor is too strong. A wee bit over the top, needs to be turned down a notch, I can see this being an issue for 50k - 100 milers.- If you have a reaction to B vitamins, that is too much of even a good thing. this might, like me, make you feel a little weird.Gave it 4 stars for having the correct electrolytes , like Sodium Citrate, Magnesium Citrate, Potassium Citrate, etc AND low sugar ! Yeah! . Left off a star for Foaming, over the top flavor and B vitamins that (in my experience and speaking for myself , I am old BTW) could cause a little weirdness at mile ... MoreThings I noticed:-It foams: As a road and trail runner, this stuff got the suds. Some ultra-runners get sick of sweet sticky flavor and will abandon their mix when the going gets tough.
I've always been a big fan of Gnarly! It is relatively low in sugar and high in electrolytes. It's our go to drink for during and after long runs. The raspberry is our go-to flavor, the orange is pretty good (It reminds me of Sunny D) and we just tried the blue and it might be a new favorite! It's like a blueberry/ blackberrry and super re-freshing! It feels light while drinking!
Initially tried the hydrate mix from a sample box and was immediately hooked. I usually don’t dig orange flavored drinks/mixes but the orange pineapple is delicious! It mixes pretty easily if you give it a good shake and I love that it isn’t effervescent. The electrolytes mix is great in this formula and I feel like it’s just enough sodium too. Y’all got me hooked. I ordered the big packet and subscribed right away. I don’t want to be without this for my 5 am workouts and early morning paddles on the rivers and lakes.
I was getting so prone to cramps - in my feet, calves, hammies, abdomen. I was hydrating pretty well but was probably diluting my electrolyte balance the more water I drank. I tried Gatorade and coconut water. I realized I needed something more and started adding Gnarly to my water. In the past two months, I’ve had only one cramp! And it went away quickly! This stuff is magic!
