I bought two of these which were definitely not cheap. What a mistake as they won’t turn off and won’t turn on when I need them. I bought them from a reputable outdoor company but these are a huge waste of money and I do not recommend this product at all. Sadly they’ll probably end up in landfill.

This has been a great light. Used during camping and in times in emergent situations, e.g., duriing Snowvid in Texas when the electricity went off.But now like some of the other complaints, it just randomly came on inside my storage closet and will not turn off. Hopefully the charge will run down but there is no way to turn it off!!!The rating of 3 is because of the usage I had during camping and at other times was great but now it is intrusive…like an old lover who just won’t leave!!

I bought this lantern in Dec 2017. I used it on a couple of weekend trips and occasionally at home. One day I discovered it 'on' even though the switch was in the 'off' position. The light would stay 'on' no matter what I attempted. Nothing restored the lantern back to normal operation and the battery eventually ran down. After a recharge, the same problem resumed.I was disappointed until I called Goal Zero, I described my problem and requested a new one. Less than 5 minutes later, a new one was on the way. It arrived in less than 2 days. I have a number of Goal Zero products and none of the other items has broken, so I don't think my experience with this product should reflect the reliability of their products in general, but I am still a little concerned about ... Loved this lantern when I got it. Wonderful soft light. Dimming adjustment was great. Didn't use it very many times, but kept it charged. Less than a year and a half later, I noticed it was powered on, even though switched off. Looking online, seems to be a common problem. Checked the manufacturer website, same issues. Noticed their warranty said "Two Years". Great! Read the fine print, "Only two years if you purchase direct" from them. So for $50, I have a junk light that I can't even throw away properly without taking to an E-Waste site, because the battery is built in. I emailed the company anyway to see if they would honor the two year, but haven't even received the usual automatic response email. I'm guessing they don't care. Do yourself a favor and buy ... We use this lantern nightly as a night light for my kids' room. I really like the great variability in brightness and being able to use just one half of the lantern. The battery life is pretty good. With the lantern half on and on the second-to-lowest brightness level, the lantern easily lasts 4 or 5 nights while being on 8 or 9 hours per night.USB charging is quick and easy as the lantern fully charges from empty in about a couple hours when using a USB port in a surge protector. I've even charged the lantern while on the road by plugging it into the car's USB port, and this has worked well, too. While camping, the ability to toggle from full to half lantern is a huge plus. I had this lantern for just over a yer, only used for emergencies a few times during power outages. I woke up one morning and there was light coming from the emergency gear box! My lantern had decided to turn itself on and refused to shut off. Messing with it created some interesting light displays however…I tried returning through REI who had none at the time and told me despite the pandemic that it was over a year (just) and to try customer service for Goal Zero. I had heard not so good things about them not answering etc. s was not very hopefully But I did get someone who gave me their email and told me to send video and photos of it.I did this and I was shipped the newer power house one as a replacement! I did like core but not sure I want to take the Chance ... MoreI had this lantern for just over a yer, only used for emergencies a few times during power outages. We have two of these lanterns, they have always worked when needed. They seem to be well built, ours have been dropped a few times without breakage and they still work. The lights have been used on camping and hunting trips, good battery life, it's nice that the light is adjustable for brightness and area lighting. I leave one on my night stand and use it nearly every night. We do have one of your small small solar panels that will charge the lanterns easily on a sunny day.
This switch issue seems to be a common defect. In my case I believe water has leaked into the housing and caused it not work properly. I can’t shut it off now. I liked this lantern but it isn’t very durable and I’m seeking out a better one. Also I will look for one that can sit higher. This one is good for some ambient light but it sits too low to use at the picnic table. I loved how the cord wraps around so you don’t lose it. Too bad it breaks.
I bought my unit through scorecardrewards so no actual direct money was spent. I've had it since 2016 and it's always worked perfectly, during our TX weather emergencies. Then, just this week, I noticed it had TURNED ITSELF ON!!! And I can't get it to turn off. It's been on for days now, without any apparent drain on the battery. This seems to me very strange, even a challenge to the laws of physics. I've read all these other reviews of the product and discover this is a comment problem with the unit. I will let the lantern just stay on and on and on as I have no power (not a pun) to turn it off. I'll see how many more days it stays on by itself. Very weird. Not a good product, especially since it is touted to be good in an emergency. I would appreciate feed back ... MoreI bought my unit through scorecardrewards so no actual direct money was spent. Perhaps this is a great light, when working as intended. However, after I got it home and charged it fully, I had difficulty getting it to turn off. I bought it for a Memorial Day trip and thought I had finally "reset" it or turned off "demo mode" by charging it a number of times, in a couple of different USB charging ports. However, once we arrived at camp and it got dark, bam! Stuck again. We had to put it in the trunk of the car at bedtime, where it remained for the rest of our trip when it wasn't dark out. We got home, and again I charged it to see if I could get it to turn on and off like normal. Nope. I brought it to the REI store in my backpack and returned it in stuck-mode.
