These are acrylics, but for the most part act like oils. If you paint in thin layers then the Open paint will be dry to the touch in 2-3 hours. To me it's the perfect combination of dry time vs wet time. I can get nice blends of color becuase its open for so long. The problem with traditional acrylic is only that it drys to fast to get subtle blends, the kind of blends you can only get with oils. Problem solved with Open. Just try it, and also get the Open Thinner medium, it helps create those smooth blends.

I greatly appreciate that Golden Open Acrylics do not dry darker or lighter than other acrylics. I don't have to guesstimate about the color. When painted thickly they remain workable for unusually long times. Blending is no problem. Excellent color selection even though I tend to use a limited palette and mix my own colors.I recommend them highly.

After 20 years of painting in oils I switched to Golden Open Acrylics, for safety (vapor) reasons. Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I like this product. I can essentially paint in a manner very similar to oils, but without using solvents. The line of colors has been working well. I recently ordered a zinc white and it is about 1/10 of the strength of the titanium white, as it was advertised to be. They seem to keep their word about their products.

Love the Golden open acrylics - particularly the luminescents - good body and resilience. Just want to comment on service - recently had a problem,one of the paint containers opening up on shipping, emptying its contents into the packaging. Called DB and they cheerfully replaced the item, no problem, no questions asked. Nice! My only complaint is that when I order a small object it comes in a box ten times its size. It would be appreciated by many, I'm sure, if DB could reduce excess packaging and cardboard.
I love oil paints. However, the drying time, even with additives, can be too long for some art calls and commissions. I decided to try Golden's Open acrylic line and am extremely pleased. The smooth consistency and drying time is similar to oil painting, which I absolutely love. Plus they cost a fraction of what oil paints do! As with all Golden products, these paints offer superior pigmentation and flow. I highly recommend this line to all artists who love acrylics but not the rapid dry time as well as those who love oils but do not like the delayed drying time.
I use golden opens because I can leave my palette and return late in the day or the next towet paints, love the color selection and consistency. I can use heavy body paints with them ifI want them to dry quickly. they do take longer to dry so there can be more working time whichis my main reason for using them!
Unfortunately, I am going to have to learn how to paint kind of 'all over again' with these new slow drying acrylics. I am so used to the standard quick-drying acrylic paints, I haven't realized how adjusted I had become to them. I kind of jumped right in with them, thinking they might be a little more like oil paints, but they are not quite that. It will take a little more time. But I'm looking forward to using them soon, as I love just the handling properties of them.
I use this paint for gelli plate printing and on canvas for abstract paintings.
Open Acrylics are the best! The paints give me time to be creative. The paints stay "open" and usable for many weeks on my palette, and this gives me the freedom to paint on my timeline and within my schedule. The Open Acrylic paints respond very similar to oil paints, and it is the perfect medium for me!
