Notification when child woke up and ran out of the room in the morning but only recorded an empty room not even a blur of child.We are required to set max length to limit individual recordings (10s, 15s, etc). Therefore unfortunately if an event is longer than the max recording limit, it just stops recording the event. You wont be given a series of notifications and clips for the duration of the event.

Thus, I can't say I don't like this product, the video is great and it took 60 seconds to set up. But this divide between original Nest and Google Nest stuff is getting frustrating. If you have therms and doorbells already, be prepared to open Nest and Home intentionally and errantly many, many times a day because you need them both and they start to look very similar.PS The battery life is just fine. Unless you want to watch the video from this device on highest resolution 24/7, don't listen to the battery bashers, they're always out there complaining about devices not being able to serve media up indefatigably. I haven't recharged this device since setting it up. I threw it in the middle of a yard to test battery life and video quality 65 feet and two walls away from the nearest Nest WiFi Pro access point. The delay is pretty long too, when I get a notification and when I click the app it takes so long the event is over.Overall, the camera is expensive and the base functionality isn’t great, that with the extra amount I’ve had to pay on top of the initial cost makes it really not worth it for me. If it were less expensive I would have given it 3 stars.If you’re looking for a camera for non security reasons and don’t need recordings, it works fine for that. However there are cameras available for less than $50 that would do the same thing.

Until then, Google has some homework to do.Oh, and the nest program is probably not going to be there much longer. It seems to be devoted primarily to thermostats and things like that. It doesn't work for other smart appliances.Google needs an all-in-one app and that's going to be Google Home, I would bet.Google, do your homework, get your apps working together, and give the consumer anything that you can think they would want, like the idea of downloading videos so that we can look at things in detail if we have to. Don't make me have to fight for it with other technologies.Oh, and you cannot see these cameras at all on a Google Android TV at all. It's physically impossible. There is no way to get a date and time stamp on the recordings or downloads on ANY of the Gen 2 products. NONE. You also cannot download a custom clip on any of the Gen 2 products. For example, I want to download a 30 minute clip from yesterday... YOU CAN'T!! You can only download "motion" clips. Which means during that 30 minute span, you download about 10-15 short clips, PLUS you can ONLY DO IT FROM YOUR PHONE!! NOT A COMPUTER!!! So when you download it, you can't find it! Crazy right?I have the top level Nest Aware subscription and thought I was good to go with 60 days of 24-hours recording, but you're not. 100% NOT. I've contacted Nest support regarding the time stamp and the custom clip and was pointed to an article for the previous generation camera where you COULD download a custom clip, but the timestamp was buried as a subtitle and can only be seen by enabling "Track 1" in ONE app called VLC player. I found this after hours of research. I havent found a way to make VLC save the recording with the subtitle "always on." An attorney or judge probably won't take the time to download VLC and follow your intricate directions on how to see the time stamp, which could put people in a precarious position. Lol. This also ONLY applies to the Gen 1 camera which DOES NOT support facial recognition. ONLY the Gen 1 cameras have the date and time stamp buried as a "subtitle."FYI: ALL OF THIS ALSO APPLIES TO THE GOOGLE DOORBELL (BATTERY)I hope this review helps you when deciding to purchase a camera product.

The movement sensor used is pathetic 4 to 5 meters is the furthest distance the cameras movement sensor will wake up to start recording any further than that the cameras do not wake up so they're rendered useless again. Video footage is grainy and second rate. Sound recording is horrible. I could keep writing for ages as to how bad these cameras are. THESE CAMERAS ARE SIMPLY NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE DO NOT BUY THESE CAMERAS. HEED THIS WARNING CONSUMERS YOU WILL REGRET BUYING THESE CAMERAS. WALK AWAY BUY ANOTHER BRAND OF CAMERA

Got two cameras, one is flickering in the night, looks like IR (infra red) module could be broken. Functinality in Day is good. Is battery powered, however needs charging, but also can take external power. So if you are planning for leaving long term 2 weeks or more, recommend buying external cable, costs extra. Also has magnetic bases, gives flexibility with installing on doors without additional tools. After a week with these new cameras, I'm baffled by design choices that Google made compared to the previous generation of Nest cameras. While these cameras look like they're built well, and they install easily, that's about the end of the pros.In order to view footage from these cameras, you have to use the Google Home app instead of the Nest app. This means that if you're an existing user with other cameras, thermostats, etc. you now need a second app and you can't view all your cameras in one spot. Even worse, there is no web interface for the Home app, so you have to manage everything on your phone with multiple apps.Secondly, even though this product is a multi-pack, it only comes with one charging cable for the cameras. While these cameras look like they're built well, and they install easily, that's about the end of the pros.In order to view footage from these cameras, you have to use the Google Home app instead of the Nest app. This means that if you're an existing user with other cameras, thermostats, etc. you now need a second app and you can't view all your cameras in one spot. Even worse, there is no web interface for the Home app, so you have to manage everything on your phone with multiple apps.Secondly, even though this product is a multi-pack, it only comes with one charging cable for the cameras. This means that when it eventually comes time to charge your cameras, you'll have to do so one at a time. You can reach out to Google support and they'll send you another charging cable if you ask for it, but it's an odd choice to not include in the box.The cameras don't constantly stream footage (to preserve battery life). This means that when you want to check what's going on (if you remember to use the right app), the camera will often report being in an "idle" state. You then have to try and get it to stream live video, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.Lastly and most disappointing, the battery life is nowhere near close to the advertised details; I charged the camera to 95% when I installed it, and a week later it's down to 30% and tells me there is 2 days battery life remaining.I would not recommend this camera to anyone unless they have very specific use cases in low-traffic areas, where removing and recharging the camera won't be a bother, and only if this is your first Nest product.

Long story short it requires a subscription, the battery life is a joke, and it is absolutely TERRIBLE at detecting & recording movement AKA not helpful for security at all. First off, you need a subscription to do anything except view the live feed. There’s one level where you pay for restricted recording and history that auto deletes at a specific amount of days, or you pay more and get unlimited recording and saving. Second, if you have all notifications/recording on, the battery lasts MAYBE 2 days. If you have half the notifications/recording on, you get up to a week if nothing happens. I purchased this BATTERY camera because the ideal place for it does not have access to a plug unless I trail an extension cord along the floor or ceiling. Another big con is with the limited recording AKA can never and will never record the entire time, it will ONLY record when there is movement. This thing is so so bad at “detecting” movement. I will be moving all around my apartment for hours and the camera will MAYBE detect my movement once, unless I’m super close to the camera. When I try to use it to watch my dog, it doesn’t detect his movements at all so I can’t see anything since there is no recordings to watch. Do not purchase this camera. If you are set on getting a camera from google, get the regular plug in kind since the battery barely adds any life. Even better, to purchase a cheaper version on a big marketplace website (hint hint) that’s actually worth the money. Also if you do decide to keep this plugged in, you’ll have to purchase additional pieces for it to stand upright, another non-win for the item. P.S. I figured since this is so easily portable I could hook it up and use it at other places. NOT the case, trying to make it work has completely wiped the history and now it won’t even work with my regular home Wifi/google devices and is now a piece of junk taking up space.
