Battery life seems fair. I'm using balanced settings and battery saver with full quality. Under 50% battery usage over 2 weeks. Device is within 2m of router. The physical security of the doorbell is a huge oversight by Google, there is no way to tether it to the fixing point, it can be removed/stolen with minimal force. I can't understand why Google R&D team did not include a Kensington lock type port or screw fixing point for a small tether. The device is big enough to conceal one. My only other gripe is the lack of a 5 to 10mtr plug adapter. Aftermarket ones are available online. Google appear to take on user feedback and some of the issues above can be voiced via the Google community.

The directions given for the Nest wireless video doorbell are not easy to follow when trying to install the device. It took me multiple attempts to be able to install it correctly and link it to our phones and to a Google Hub.It keeps the videos for only 3 hours, not 3 hours of video as I mistakenly understood from the description. I did not need the wireless feature as I did a hard wire of the device. I have had people walk up got the door and not trigger the motion detector unless they ring the bell. There are times when it catches people walking along the sidewalk past the house, but, at other times, it totally misses people and or cars in the driveway. There are times when the wind sways some branches and that sets off the motion sensor.Overall, I am not pleased with this device and would not recommend it to anyone, it falls far short of expectations.

Unfortunately we learned that our doorbell transformer was too weak and needed to be replaced but that did not stop us. The whole installation took a couple hours mostly because of the transformer that needed to be replaced. The quality of the camera is great and provides a clear image even at night. The Google Home App provides a lot of great options like leaving a prerecorded message to visitors or delivery companies. With the ability to distinguish between familiar faces and strangers, the Nest Doorbell Gen 2 allows you to receive customized alerts and notifications. This not only enhances security but also reduces unnecessary interruptions, making it a valuable addition to any busy household. The Nest Doorbell Gen 2's wide field of view ensures that you can see everything happening at your doorstep. It doesn't miss a thing, whether it's a package delivery, a visitor, or even wildlife passing by. The two-way audio feature is a fantastic addition, enabling you to communicate with visitors or potential intruders remotely. It adds an extra layer of security by giving the impression that you're always home, even when you're not.Installation is straightforward, and the Google Home app guides you through the setup process seamlessly. Integration with other Nest devices and the Google ecosystem is effortless, allowing you to create a comprehensive smart home security network.I must also applaud Google for its commitment to privacy. The Nest Doorbell Gen 2 includes advanced security features, including tamper detection and two-factor authentication, ensuring that your data remains safe and protected. One of the standout advantages of this doorbell is its continuous video recording with a Nest Aware subscription. This feature provides 24/7 recording, which is invaluable for reviewing events, should the need arise.
I really like the idea of the Google doorbell, but it fails at just about everything. The good:It integrates with all your other google devices, so if you have smart displays (inc google TV and nest displays) the doorbell will chime on those devices to let you know when someone has pushed the button. It also allows you to save faces with names and it will tell you who has pressed the button, which is very useful (though this is through a subscription). It also records footage and stores it for up to 60 days (again this needs a subscription). The battery life is what I expected, we get a reasonable 3-4 weeks out of it (we use it quite a bit). Charging is also super easy and fast (we usually take it off during the evening and its charged a few hrs later, ready for the next day). The night vision is excellent on the camera, with images displayed in black and white and excellent distance views. The aspect ratio is also great, I can see from the head to their feet of each person visiting. The resolution is passable, when it is streaming properly and set to maximum quality, details can be made out fairly well. I’m not sure you’d be able to get license plates from the feed at a distance, but for recognising people, its fine. The bad:The doorbell has major lag issues – across all devices (we have 100Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload). When out of the house and using your phone (on mobile network), by the time someone has pushed the button and you have received notification, opened the app and pressed the respond button, they will most likely be gone. Even then, the lag on talk function makes it useless (around a 5 second delay). The lag also carries across to local devices (such as smart displays) although the lag is much more reasonable. It also only seems to work on smart displays and google TV (nest speakers do not chime) and there does not seem to be the ability to choose which devices chime when the button has been pushed. The chime is also determined by the volume set on the device it is chiming on, so if you have the volume low on your nest hub display, the chime will also be very low, quite often I’ll miss the chime as my nest display volume is too low.I’ve had many instances, where I’ve needed to view the live feed and I’ve received the error ‘live feed not available’, this seems to happen when I really need to see what’s happening. So, reliability is also terrible. As an actual doorbell, it’s absolutely useless (you’re better off getting a standard wireless doorbell). As a recording device, it does an OK job (but there are better devices out there).
The Google Nest Doorbell is my first experience with a smart video doorbell and it's been a really up and down experience. First, you must check that the doorbell is compatible with your existing doorbell's wiring. Luckily, my transformer was in an easy to locate place and my current voltage was compatible. However, this may be an issue in older homes. The installation is pretty straightforward. You scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell or on the instructions included in the package and the Google Home app provides a walkthrough. I didn't have to drill any additional holes as the Nest Doorbell lined up with my existing doorbell. Everything was going smoothly until it came to mounting the doorbell itself to the base plate. The wiring provided in the package is much too long. After hooking everything up, all of the wiring would fit behind the doorbell. The instructions say to just tuck the wiring into the wall, however the hole in my doorframe was not large enough to do that. So after some Macgyver-ing of the wires, I was finally able to get it on to the base plate correctly and the security screw that is on top of the doorbell to fully secure it to the base plate would not screw in. I double and triple check that everything was lined up, I could see though the hole in the top that it was lined up, but no matter how much I twisted the screw, it would not secure. I've also had issues with the doorbell ringing my mechanical chime indoors. I have plenty of experience in wiring and electrical work and have made sure everything is setup correctly and the indoor chime refuses to ring. After a lot of troubleshooting and research, it seems that this generation has an issue with the included puck that you attach to the chime. I'm guessing I'm just one of many that got a dud. I recently bought a new router to help manage all of my smart devices and you cannot simply change the SSID that this doorbell is connected to, you have to factory reset the doorbell in order to hook it up to a new wifi connection. However, even with all of these issues that I've experienced, the video and audio quality are excellent. The video is clear and crisp even at night and you get 24 hours of history for free. The audio is clear and can pickup noises from a significant distance. Overall, you might have an easier experience than I have had and the quality of the video is worth it, especially if you have other Google smart devices that can integrate with the doorbell, but the issues that I've had, particularly the inability to ring the indoor chime, makes me wish I had gone a different direction.
The good- this doorbell picks up motion far better than my eufy 2k. It alerts my phone right away. There’s not much delay. It syncs well to Google hub and Google home although not perfectly (eufy performed terrible across the board but I have since bought a new router that may improve its performance). I also like the different seasonal bell sounds. The bad- first and formost, a subscription is needed to view anything past 3 hours.. so if something happened in the middle of the night, you most likely won’t see what it was unless you fork out $ monthly. The camera field of view is very small compared to my eufy. It syncs up alright but I honestly expected better from Google and nest. The camera field of view is very small compared to my eufy. It syncs up alright but I honestly expected better from Google and nest. I’m alerted every time something happens but when I go to view a replay it plays part of the way through the triggering action and then freezes and closes out the app. Also it does not continuously record, you can only view live feed, and past events, not pick a random time of the day and go back and look at it. It also doesnt always record until the motion is done. I want the whole event. When UPS drops off a package, it doesnt even record until they get back into their truck sometimes. If they ran over my mail box on the way out I’d have no clue. And while the different seasonal bell sounds are nice on the hub and doorbell itself, it would be awesome if they could integrate that into the app notifications as well. Also worth noting, I had a good deal of trouble getting the doorbell switched over when I bought a newer router and it took a couple days of fiddling with it because I’m sure I was supposed to do something before I disconnected the old one. Over all this doorbell is decent for the refurbished cost but I will still search for one that does better in the areas I’ve mentioned.
Awesome doorbell if you already use Google Home equipment.I bought a refurb unit for my parents' house after they saw ours and wanted one as well. The unit came with everything needed in the box, including screws, the metal plate and the angled wall bracket. By default, the doorbell only has 3 hours worth of recording available and if you have an important event that happens at midnight, odds are by the time you wake up it's already been erased from the doorbell. With Nest Aware you get 10 days of 24/7 continuous recording that you can scrub through and 60 days of event recording to the cloud that you can view on demand. Without Nest Aware it wouldn't be worth it to me, but as a Google household, having Nest Aware makes sense for the other features it unlocks with the rest of the ecosystem.

So far I have to say I'm loving my new doorbell. I've been wanting to get a Google Nest doorbell for a while, but I refused to pay $180 for it and for the past couple years have used two different ones purchase elsewhere. One of them I cannot remember the name of and the other most recent was a Blurams branded video doorbell.Well I didn't have anything necessarily against my previous doorbell when I saw this one on special for open box I have to admit I jumped at the opportunity to get it on discount. I also wanted to purchase it because of the subscription price. My previous doorbell was $5 to $6 per camera, per month and I wasn't impressed with their cloud service. Google Nest to aware has two subscriptions there lowest tier and the one that I currently belong to is only $6 a month and it will cover any camera in your home or outside your home that is Google Nest branded and unlimited in how many allowed under the subscription! While you will end up paying more for the Google devices versus a more generic brand, I have to admit, I have learned in the past few years that Google while carrying a price point on their products I consider to be expensive, They're built with quality, great technology and generally are worth paying more for.So I do struggle in between the internal die hard deal. Hunter bargain junkie and being the "OFFICIAL unofficial 'Google Guy" from time to time but when it comes to choosing tech for everyday use or for my home- particularly something to be used long-term- there is no doubt in my mind that my submitting to the higher price tag has a logic behind it because I will get the quality, the durability, the use, and the overall value that I am paying for.Google makes a killer product and I can't recommend this one enough. I like that, unlike with others on the market, I don't need to have a separate plug-in chime unit to hear the doorbell ring. If somebody rings the doorbell, it will notify you obviously on your phone and other devices, but it will also it chime through your smart speakers, Google hub, or other Google devices and your assistant will alert throughout your house "Someone is at the front door".It can also easily be called up onto your Chromecast or Google TV with Chromecast to see the footage at the front door. And thanks to the new makeover of the Google Home app, which I was lucky enough to be part of the pilot program on, You can easily enter the home app and see the footage there as well. Add it to your favorites and it'll be the first to pop up in your list.Like with all google products, It's easy to use right out of the box and plug and play friendly. Quick to install and so far i'm noticing the battery lasts a significantly longer amount than any of the others I've owned. The picture quality itself is very impressive even when zooming in to full capacity. You can even create specific zones within the camera so that it'll only alert you should something enter that specific area. This can come in handy if your doorbell view includes a parking lot, but you have a walkway leading to your front door and you have all of the events alerts ticked so when You map your own zone. You can have it set so that if a car arrives or a person is seeing and it's in that parking lot area outside of the zone you've created just in the walkway before your front door it will not alert you. Or you can have it alert you but leave it on a lower priority. There is a lot of customability here and you'll find it all easily available inside the Google Home app. This is one of the smartest purchases that I have made this year and I only wish I would have done it sooner. I highly recommend picking this item up.(Side note, one of my favorite things is that this is 5G compatible. It will hook up easily to your internet's on either the 2.5 or 5G- most doorbells on the market will only attach to the 2.5 and that makes them spotty at best and delayed in their response. By being 5G friendly, this is on point and you get your notifications on time)
