The product itself is great. We had a local engineer come to install it, and set up on the app was easy enough. I dont love the app in terms of scheduling - its a bit of a clunky user expereince, but once you have it set up its really easy. You can turn it on or off from the device or from the app - so you have the option to turn the heating off before you go out then trn it on just before you get home. Its worth being aware that the USB cable needs to be connected all of the time, so if you are having it wall mounted id recommend thinking about having the wire chased into the wall or cased in. I bought a stand for it in the end and have it connected to the USB port in one of the plug sockets. Overall we are very happy and it will definitely help us to reduce our ... MoreThe product itself is great. We had a local engineer come to install it, and set up on the app was easy enough. I already have the Nest thermostat in my home. Bought a new Nest thermostat for one of my Sons.He now appreciates just how easy to use, and to set the timing of the hot water and control the central heat temperature using the Nest thermostat.I would recommend purchasing a Nest thermostat to anyone thinking of changing out their old room thermostat.I am sure in this fuel crisis that even allowing for the purchase price you'll see a saving in your heating bills.Having the convenience of being away from home and using your smart phone to control the Nest heating and hot water to allow you to come home to a cosy home and a piping hot shower........Magical

I've had this installed for two years now. After 11 months the thermostat failed and had to be replaced under warranty. Now another 13 months later the heat link has died leaving no manual override and no heating. Thankfully Nest are sending a replacement FOC despite it just being out of warranty. But, having to replace both parts within 2 years is a concern that I might be constantly replacing and paying out.A shame as the unit itself aesthetically looks great, and I've been pleased with the functionality.

I bough three Nests at the same time. Two out of three have broken at the same time (the relays have both stopped working) after the two year warranty period had ended. You have to replace the whole thermostat as they do not sell spare parts.Get used to buying new ones every 3 years.
I recently replaced my Danfoss TP4000 with the Nest Thermostat 3rd Generation. Whilst very happy with the look and new features of the Nest, I was surprised that the 'on-temperature' thermostat functionality was essentially the same as an old fashioned bi-metallic strip thermometer, with the associated hysteresis.Modern programmable thermostats use Time Proportional Integral (TPI) controls, which maintain temperature by switching on the boiler every 10 (or 20) minutes and vary the mark to space ratio of on to off times; the minimum on time being about 30 seconds. This enables a much finer and smoother temperature control, maintaining the temperature very close to the set value. Also, the radiators are kept at a fairly constant temperature so the radiated heat is ... MoreI recently replaced my Danfoss TP4000 with the Nest Thermostat 3rd Generation. This enables a much finer and smoother temperature control, maintaining the temperature very close to the set value. Also, the radiators are kept at a fairly constant temperature so the radiated heat is constant. The temperature swing from the Nest Thermostat tends to take the radiator temperature from full heat to nearly cold with each cycle. Boilers are more efficient when there is a significant temperature difference between the flow and return pipes, and the TPI arrangement generally ensures this is the case.Whilst the Nest Thermostat provides OpenTherm capability, the better boilers do not have this feature e.g. Worcester Bosch and Vaillant. It would improve the Nest Thermostat considerably if the software could be upgraded to include the TPI as a feature or an option.
Electrician didn't realise that the base is already attached to the unit. But never mind that, you are supposed to fit the unit to the wall plate and the wall plate is clumsy (see picture) and if you can't use the wall plate for any reason then you have a trailing USB lead which seems a poor arrangement. Then the app: in fact you have to have two: Both Nest and also Google Home, which seems a bit weird. The instructions (and the reviews below) make quite a lot of how the thermostat learns your ways but I cannot see that there is an automatic daytime/night time programme, without actually progamming the 7 day week through the app: having to turn it down when you go to bed and then back up in the morning seems rather self-defeating but perhaps I am missing something. ... MoreElectrician didn't realise that the base is already attached to the unit. Absolute garbage. Features like "not heating/cooling an empty home" based on the thermostat detecting movement sound great until you're, oh, I don't know, sleeping and not moving in front of the thermostat and the temperature inside starts rising to the outdoor temperature? I set the high end temperature to 80 while leaving the house for work a few times in the winter and the stupid thing now leaves itself set to not kick AC on until 80 during the middle of summer. This product is a prime example of overcomplicating a simple device. As a kicker, why would you want to put any google "smart" device in your home? Great product for urbanite bugmen, terrible product for real people.
Unable to control the AC unit after 2.5 years of operation and just before the first big heatwave. Dealing with NEST support was useless. They don't seem to understand that the customer expectation is that a unit like this should last 15-20 years. They are stuck on the 2 year warranty issue regardless of the serviceablity, lifespan and customer protection issues that are being raised worldwide. So the NEST experience cost me $600 extra to get a HVAC tech to make an emergency visit and then to install a dumb thermostat that could at least control the AC. Maybe engineer it less for functionality and a little more for durability.
As a fan of Nest products, I was excited to install the 3rd Generation Learning Thermostat in my home. While the sleek and modern design is impressive, I did encounter some limitations during installation and use.Unfortunately, we had difficulty getting the thermostat installed through our usual electrician and found that it only communicates with the heat link when the two are directly touching. This renders the temperature monitor somewhat useless since both are contained in the same cupboard as the boiler. It's unclear whether this is due to a fault with the product or the installation, as there may be something interfering with the signal.Despite this, we are still able to change the temperature via the app, which is a great feature. Convenience is what I say. All my life I have to walk a distance from room to room to adjust the temperature thermostat. But now with just a few taps on my smart phone I can make changes to the thermostat. Advances in technology can make daily life a little easier. This thermostat has the ability to learn our habits such as what temperature you prefer to set at anytime throughout the day or night. Just read the instructions from the Nest app and it will provide you with all the information you need. Although it is costly to purchase a Nest Learning Smart Thermostat, it is one of my purchases in my lifetime that is worth buying for its convenience.
