An upgrade from the original Google Pixel Watch

The charger is different with pins to help connect with faster charging times and a notification to my Pixel phone when the watch is charged. The reason I have a smart watch is to track my workouts, I mainly do spinning and strength workouts. There seems to be more metrics that can be monitored for runners, I would like this to be available for other activities such as spinning. I do like to monitor my heart rate in real time during a workout which the Pixel Watch 3 does well. And this is where I do have to highlight some of the downsides for me, as I feel the Pixel watches are aimed more for tracking workouts, an extension from the Fitbit devices. I would like to be able to personalised the Pixel Watch more, such as increased control over notifications for different apps which was what I was hoping for in the Pixel watch 3. I do not have the LTE variant due to the lack of decent contracts for this, I would use more of the smart features.I do think it was worth upgrading to the Pixel watch 3, the screen is brighter and clearer, has a better battery life and faster to charge. I need to spend more time to see the software updates but I am enjoying using the Google Pixel Watch 3.The picture is the original Google Pixel watch on the left and the Google Pixel Watch 3 on the right.

I opted for the 45mm as I expected it to have a bigger battery and the screen would be bigger and easier to see. I was right. The battery lasts 2 days for me easily and I only need to charge on the morning if the third day. I normally charge every morning as I sit at my desk though, just to top it up ready for anything.I like the screen very much as it is readable in any light condition, in various angles, and it will adjust its brightness automatically dependant on the ambient light so it is never too bright even at night in bed. The touch screen is very sensitive, even after I have put a case with screen protector on.Talking about in bed, I now wear my watch to sleep too track my sleep and see if I have a good night sleep. I have sleep apnea and therefore I sometimes don't sleep very well, resulting in a tired day the next day. Now the watch gives me a daily morning report to let me know how readiness I am for the day. Based on this, I can plan my activity and exercises.Sleep tracking is getting better and better. Now I can be lying very still in bed reading on my ebook reader for hours and the watch will still correctly record my sleep time as I sleep instead of when it detects a reduction in activities and heart rate as my precious watches.I'm not a big fan of running so unfortunately I cannot comment on the run support function of the watch. However, I have read that the watch will even analyse your running posture and gait and give advices accordingly for you to improve. In summary, I believe Google has put a lot of thoughts into making this new version, and it is a good decision for me to get it as it ticks all the boxes of an ideal watch for me.

The circular design gives it a classic watch feel, unlike some other squarish smartwatches on the market. The OLED screen is one of the best I've seen on a smartwatch. The watch and silicone strap are lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear. I have the larger 45mm which I think is better for reading the screen from a distance.Performance-wise, it's pretty snappy. Now that Google owns Fitbit, the integration is seamless. It's excellent for casual workouts, but the GPS and battery life may not hold up for long, intensive sessions. The battery life is the biggest downside for me. Despite Google's improvements, I found it still struggles to last more than a day and a half, especially if you're using GPS, tracking workouts, or frequently using apps. I tend to charge it every night just to be sure it will last the next day. This is fine, if you're like me, and have a routine each day but can be annoying if you're traveling or forget to charge.I still think the whole Google WearOS ecosystem can be improved especially third-party apps. I would like better integration with my podcast app (although you can pause, skip, and turn the volume up) it would be nice it is had the ability to sync my podcast files so I can use it outside without my phone.Overall, the Google Pixel Watch 3 is a great option especially if you already use their phones. It is stylish, has a good range of health options, and for most people gives enough battery life for the entire day. However, I don't think it is a huge leap forward from other flagship smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy range.

Good upgrade from Fitbit Versa
27 September 2024

This feels like the Android Wear watch that Fitbit would have made. Upgraded from a Versa and the experience was smooth with the phone app offering to replace the Versa with the Pixel Watch. Slightly different interface from the Versa and additional functions take some time to get used to. Unfortunately the glass is not sapphire crystal however the curved design helps it to feel smaller than it is and the sides of the screen are sensitive enough to respond to swipes without obstructing the image. The screen can get both very bright in daylight and comfortably dim to use in bed. The crown is nice to use as it allows quick scrolling but haptic feedback is a bit hit and miss, the side button is quite stiff and doesn't seem to have softened with use yet. Great device, packed with great features

Having owned both the Pixel Watch 1 and the Pixel Watch 2, I absolutely had to purchase this, knowing how good they were. The 4mm size difference was instantly noticeable, and makes a big difference. On the previous incumbents, I often had to hunt around the menus to find what I want, but with the bigger screen I can have the apps I need instantly available on the home screen. It also makes it easier to see images from our Ring doorbell. There's a marked difference in the battery life on this model too. It can pretty much go 2 days before a recharge, as opposed to 1 day on the Pixel watch 2.Apart from this, I haven't personally noticed too many other differences from the Pixel Watch 2. Day 1 with the Pixel watch 3. Those who went before were the samsung classic watch, another samsung after that, the apple watch, the fitbit charge 6, and the samsung fit 3. This Pixel will do. It seems like a combination of what I liked in all the watches I've owned before. I liked the apple watch in function and size, but switched to Android and have been searching for the right watch. Other round watches seemed much to large for my wrist. Even though it is a 41mm, it seems smaller than the other rounds, but I was surprised at the large screen. The Pixel small is perfect for me, the off brand band is a bit snug.I had a problem getting it back on to fitbit, as I deleted my fitbit account when I gave my charge 6 to my daughter. I had to create a new account, which took some trial and error--not really straight-forward process. My watch now has 2 google accounts attached to it.Another thing, without the Pixel phone, the watch voice recordings are doomed to stay on the watch. No transcription, no editing, nothing but the ability to play the recording from the watch. And I just bought a samsung s24 , so no new phone for a while.I came here hoping to share my joy with other reviewers, as this is launch day, but there are no other reviews here yet. :(Pictured is the Pixel next to my samsung fit 3. (I couldn't find this size comparison ahead of my purchase, so there you go.)

[Rewarded Review] Almost perfect

This is a really solid 4-star and nearly 5-star product. I come from a 5 year old Fossil/Michael Kors Android Wear watch, for reference. The Pixel Watch 3 is super snappy, fast, and its battery life this first week of ownership has been great in comparison to my old watches. Where my old watch was lucky to last from sun up to sundown, this Pixel Watch was sitting at 57% battery remaining after being worn from 8am one day to 8am the FOLLOWING day after wearing it for sleep tracking. Then I top off the battery in a half hour while I'm getting ready for the next day and it's good to go again. Where I'm knocking off a star are for things which others would consider to be "minor", in all reality. Firstly, I miss having three pushers (buttons) like my old watch had. I feel like an extra pusher to pull up a desired app would be excellent. Secondly, the bands are hard to swap out and aren't universal like my old watch. Thirdly, I wish the Pulse Oximeter (SpO2) sensor was available on-demand, and not just during sleep tracking. Overall, I'm loving this watch, but there's a few things that are keeping it from perfect.

[Rewarded Review] Apple Watch alternative with decent battery life
20 September 2024

Coming from an Apple watch Ultra set a high bar for the Google Pixel Watch to match. Granted I am not a user who used the Apple Watch Ultra to its fullest extent. I mostly like the larger watch face and battery.Google third iteration seems like it's best one. The battery is sufficient to last 1.5-2 days dependent on use. It's accurate at workouts, tracking heart rate and overall exercise tracking. GPS walks seemed to track accurately.I do have some concerns regarding the glass face as it wraps around the edges. I presume it may easily get damaged when brushing up against a door jam for example. I did order a protector to be proactive.Overall its a nice watch. Time will tell (no pun intended).
