The camera has a lot of great features and those seem to work well...the additional frame rates, faster processor, front facing camera, new time lapse options, stabilization, etc. Better, snappier, UI on the screen. Removable lens. I like what they've done, generally, but the company needs to address this quickly and/or buyers need to be ready to lose anything they've shot. My firmware is updated (but through the app AND then I tried with the manual method). I have fast SD cards (SanDisk - Extreme PLUS 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card and similar latest and greatest) that were formatted in camera. I do not recommend SanDisk for this, although I NEVER had problems with my Hero8 and SanDisk. I only have SanDisk because that is what always worked with my Hero 8. I will try another brand, maybe Samsung Evo or Lexar ??

I can't seem to edit previous post, but felt compelled to share this screenshot of corrupted video and add more comments. Other good: battery life doesn't seem to suffer much from the front facing camera. The FF feature is worth the money if you are taking selfies, etc, opens up a lot of options for photos/video. I ended up using Recoverit from Wondershare, successfully, to retrieve my footage (previous post). If you are ok to invest another $80+ into recovery software (their advanced video feature), that may give you some peace of mind, if this is a common occurrence. I am posted a screen grab of the video error. I don't know if this was due to the camera or the SD card. I was shooting in 1080, so nothing too hard for the camera or the SD card. I was able to mitigate this issue by using the ULANZI quick release system, but all this stuff on top makes the camera heavier and more bulky. GoPro needs to create a new attachment system, maybe using magnets like DJI is doing.Also I hate how GoPro manages accessories and the way they integrate into the camera.If you can, buy the Enduro battery as it is 200% times better then the standard gopro battery.

So impressed with this camera. The hypersmooth stabilization is incredible. I set up a test on a mountain bike and was blown away. I mounted the camera on a rigid mount - 9? articulating arm, and the footage looked like it was from a camera not even connected to the bike. The bike sways left and right, but the camera doesn?t appear to move. Keep in mind this was set at the standard stabilization setting - not boost. To me, this feature alone makes the camera worth having. I?ve included a video clip so you, too, can be amazed. Just don?t judge my worn out shoes, lol. Camera is mounted to the frame - bike has no suspension. Settings: 4K at 24p, high bit-rate, hypersmooth set to standard, linear view (not horizon-leveling), color was set to flat for better color grading.
This is my first GoPro and probably my last. The battery doesn’t last long, no more than 30 minutes, it frequently overheats and shuts off. I did the update… same thing. I lose more footage than I capture. I have the GoPro Subscription and tried to exchange it and the person that barely speaks English wanted to know every setting I ever used and suggested that I don’t use the camera in 1080 for 30 minutes at a time. She suggested that I run it at “Minimal Settings” and see if that resolves it. If I wanted a camera with “Minimal Settings”, I wouldn’t have paid $400! The monthly subscription is a joke and they put you thru the ringer to get a refurbished camera. Save the money and get yourself a “Minimal” camera

After the fact, I learned I needed to manually update the camera with the latest firmware because attempting it using the phone app does not work. The camera overheated just sitting around learning how to use it, and after I did the manual firmware update, that problem resolved - that is not to say that it still does not get warm. Next - I did not order a sufficiently powerful micro SD card. I ended up getting a San Disk Extreme Plus UHS-3 rated card. That apparently has helped, also. It is rather warm as I write this review. I bought a dual battery charger, and that works just fine for charging the battery. I bought what seems like a boat load of accessories from screen protectors, cases, sleeves, cages and a remote. Also bought an external mic. I guess a cage is an absolute necessity if you are going to use an external mic with a GoPro mic adapter because the side door has to be removed to plug in the mic adapter which has a USB-C connector. I bought just one extra lens for the moment - a circular polarizer. Hopefully my Dell Inspiron 7000 Series laptop will not choke when I download the video content in 5K. So far, I have not found anything that says I cannot do that. Okay, as I conclude this review, the camera is definitely warm but not to the point of being untouchable, the battery power is down to 77% from 100%. I hope B&H will allow me to post a subsequent review once I start recording video and downloading it to my Windows laptop. I hope to make this camera work up to its expectations, but I think GoPro has some work to do on design, etc. Maybe they could design a new door where the battery and USB connection is so that you don't have to remove it to attach a mic adapter. A person should not need a special cage for that purpose. I am sure I will come up with some other critiques. I have a feeling I will be happy with the video in the end and get some enjoyment from this camera, but people who are new to this are going to have to spend time on the Internet to learn how to resolve their overheating problems related to improper firmware update techniques, etc. So that is where I will leave this review for now. Maybe a really great video camera, but especially for newbies, a long learning curve and stumbles and bumbles along the way. Do lots of internet research on every little thing you can think of.

What a piece of junk! Ive been using various GoPro Heros & Sessions since GPv3 to record my daily bike commute. This is the most unreliable, infuriating version ever. The fatal flaw is in its broken charging: it only charges and consequently turns on when it feels like it. It might be anthropomorphizing but this thing does not turn on half the time when I need it too. Even after triple checking the cables and reseating everything. GoPro's engineers/designers took a design that worked and broke it. Some of us depend on consistency in our devices powering on like our lives depended on it. For instance, I was unable to capture footage of a car collision (that I assumed my GP was recording) because of the extreme ineptitude of GoPro design.
