This is my first time with a GoPro and it was a pleasant surprise to find out how easy setup was. There are two buttons on the camera itself and a very small screen to check what options or settings you’re thumbing through but most everything is done via the app, which can be a pro or a con. The camera also does not feature a removable battery like other digital cameras I’ve used in the past, which does lead to some concern about whether in the future battery wear and tear will render this little camera unusable. The lack of a viewfinder on the actual camera itself is also somewhat jarring and harkens back to the mild inconvenience of having to defer to the app for everything. All that being said, the actual camera capabilities of the Mini are astounding. I was blown out of the water by the quality of the capture for such a relatively tiny device. I don’t believe this would work well for extended use, such as in, say, hiking videos, as in my own experience the battery lasted about an hour on average. But for fun things like a daily vlog or cooking videos or experimental pov footage, this camera would work excellently and is easy to mount. It works decently well even in night conditions, too. Ultimately, this camera has some considerable benefits and detriments to weigh and would, in my opinion, work best for the amateur enthusiast or as a secondary camera. It is definitely a lot of fun to experiment with, though, and if you can manage to not mind the limited controls and the marriage this has to the app (which isn’t bad, but requires payment on a subscription basis to fully “unlock”), this is a neat little camera for sure.

It comes with a nice carrying case, but you’ll have to provide your own micro-SD card. The Quik app tries to really sell the subscription for automatically uploading videos to the cloud, but I’ve found it’s convenient to work with videos without the subscription. You can save a video to the app, then view the media in the app and “save to phone” to export it.The video quality and image stabilization are just amazing, and what everyone has come to expect from GoPro. Even bouncing around on a rocky road it somehow manages to produce a smooth video. Other than the default video mode, there are six other capture modes that all seem to be variations of time lapse. There’s Timewarp (record frames of video at set intervals), Star Trails, Light Painting (long exposure at night for using lights to “paint”), Vehicle Light Trails, Time Lapse, and Night Lapse. You can also live stream with it (Facebook, twitch, YouTube, and “other” options), but apparently can’t use it as a web cam.It doesn’t have a removeable battery, so if you’re planning an all-day activity you’ll have to be prudent with your battery usage. It takes about 2 hours to charge from nearly empty according to the user guide. If you’re using it for a long time lapse or something, then you do have the option to plug it in to a power source but with the hatch open it won’t be waterproof.Overall, I’m happy with the mini and I’m looking forward to using it while riding and doing some time lapse capturing. If you’re looking for the smallest possible GoPro and can live without a display screen then I think you might like it as well.

One of the best features as when I can meet this camera to my iPhone using a free app which allows me to transfer my files directly to my phone as well as control the phone in regards to preview settings. The icing on the cake is the ability to start and stop recordings without having to be near the camera. As long as the camera can hear you in the microphone, there are many commands you can give it which I have found immensely convenient as compared to having to start and stop my videos with my iPhone. The small rechargeable LED that can be attached to the cold shoe is plenty enough light when shooting. The camera comes with an array of attachments that allow you to mount the camera in different positions on different surfaces. The battery that also acts like a tripod has charging plugs on it as well as pop out legs and a swivel at the top so the camera can be swiveled and angled in any position. You will need to purchase a micro SD card to save your images and video. I believe I purchased a 256 GB card which holds plenty of media. I'm just overjoyed that I finally have pulled the trigger on the 11th iteration of this camera. I was first initially disappointed to read many instances of overheating however I have not discovered that in my own experience and I have recorded for hours at a time. Time will tell whether that continues to happen when the local weather reaches over 110°. At that point I probably won't wanna be outside filming anything anyway. I think the camera makes a great addition to anybody who creates videos for YouTube. I am really enjoying this camera.

The unit captures a large area so it ends up being very simple to use. And I can always crop if I need to in post-production. It can capture up to 5.3K at 60 fps or 4K at 120 fps. The mic captured sound very well, just as well as full size GoPros. There are neat field of view options for the HERO11 Mini, one of which is Hyperview which creates a wide-field view. There is also image smoothing/stabilization as well as a feature to keep the image locked on the horizon. The unit is waterproof to a reasonable depth and I can say that it does survive plenty of drops, as you would expect from GoPro. I loved that the HERO11 Mini was easy to mount to my drone and I think users will find all kinds of creative places to use this. I can understand that some people really need the view screens and the touch controls that come along with those. I will say that I used the LCD screen and 2 physical buttons to quickly setup anything I needed, but the GoPro Quik app can also let you dive as deep as you want into customization of the field of view options and many other features. I would recommend this to anyone, and would make an amazing holiday gift for anyone teenage and up.
I had bought the GP Hero 7 Black a few years ago and have had nothing but problems with that camera. The camera performed flawlessly. I have over 150 GB of footage from the Grand Canyon alone and I did not have a single freeze up or any other issue. When I started my hike from the North Rim, it was 4F and was freezing. But the camera turned on and performed wonderfully. I must have shot around an hour's worth of footage in those temperatures before heading down for my hike.The one thing I did was to use a power bank (Ulanzi BG-2 or BG-3 that screws onto the base of the GP H11) with the GP 11 and removed the internal battery. Do note that if you power the GP H11 directly with a power bank while removing the battery, you will get an error saying that there is not enough power and the camera will shut down. Even if you use a power bank with 5V/2A or higher specs, it will still power off saying low power. The trick is to update the firmware with the GoPro Labs Firmware for the camera (just Google for this firmware as I cannot put a link here). That firmware adds additional features to the camera but more importantly, disables this power shut off. Now with the updated firmware and the Ulanzi power bank, I am able to shoot for long periods with no issues.I am very satisfied with this GoPro and hope to finally be able to just focus on capturing footage instead of fiddling with camera and battery to just keep it operational. Highly recommended (with the caveats above).

Easy Control gives you three preset options - all having to do with resolution and battery life. Pro Controls gives you seven shooting options with three of those dealing with time lapse and three for playing with night time light tails. Unlike easy controls, each of the seven pro options is totally customizable. All the modes worked as expected and shot great video.The footage from this little device is stunning. The motion is buttery smooth, especially at 240 fps. Unlike other GoPro’s, to get a still, you have to export a frame from your video rather than just snapping the button. While a little more effort, the resulting photos are really nice.The GoPro Hero 11 Mini is a hot little camera - really. I’ve been able to get it to shut itself off due to heat just by recording indoors for 15-20 minutes. Although the instructions indicate this is a possibility, I thought it might have been due to an older SD card so I got a new one and had the same result. The back of the unit is mostly all heat sync but it seems without cooler air blowing over it during recording it can’t cool the unit quick enough which makes me wonder about using it outdoors during hot summer days.In colder outdoor temps i was able to get it to record till the battery ran out which amounted to about 50 minutes of video in two segments. Yes, the Mini splits larger videos into smaller segments which you can shut off in the settings.Speaking of battery life, the Mini 11 has an internal battery that is not user replaceable so know that if you are planning a long day on the slopes or sun, you will only get about 50 minutes of footage from a single charge and recharging takes a couple of hours. You can use the camera with an external power source but this kind of defeats the purpose of such a small portable device.GoPro has jumped on the subscription bandwagon and clearly wants you to be a part of it. The app shows it on start-up regularly. The yearly price for this is only $50 but the app does offer a 50% discount for the first year. Not only does the subscription allow you to upload footage to the cloud for easy retrieval but it unlocks some of the advanced editing features in the app. You can of course edit the footage in any video editor as well. There are also PC/Mac versions of software that also have a paid element to unlock advance options.The app also has a feature that matches music to your shots for great uploadable videos.Even with several limitations, I give the GoPro Hero 11 Mini five stars and recommend it to anyone looking for great videos from one of the smallest action cams around.

They state this on page 58, I feel like this should be on the quick setup guide instructions, as some people may not look at this before changing and potentially damage the non removable battery. With a Go Pro subscription you get unlimited cloud storage and auto upload features. Even though you don’t have a screen, the trade off is that you get an extra set of folding mounts on the back of the camera. Changing the controls of the camera is very intuitive and easy with the app and is super fast with no lag in my experience. I did have a few times the app didn’t connect and I had to restart one or the other, but never had any connectivity issues with drop out. The main draw to me for using a Go Pro instead of my phone or a regular camera is the video stabilization. The HyperSmooth 5.0 is absolutely amazing when it comes to video stabilization. It truly removes the need to have a separate stabilizing device. The one improvement with video quality I’d like to see is a regular nighttime video mode. Shooting video in normal mode, low light video is on the darker side, but when you use night lapse the video is bright. I could be wrong but I would think this could be added with an update to the app. Overall the Hero 11 mini is a great action cam the provides great stabilized video and cool shooting modes in a more compact package.
