(98 reviews)

If you’ve got some fast winter training to get done, it’s then the C5 Infinium Thermo Jacket comes into its own. In order to keep you both warm and sweat-free when cycling, Gore uses their exceptionally breathable and windproof Gore-Tex Infinium technology. Bitter cold winds can’t get in, maintaining warmth, and yet as you put the power down, the high degree of breathability allows an easy escape route for sweat, preventing the discomfort of chills from cold sweat. Water-resistance also means light rain and short sharp showers are easily dealt with. And inside, the full fleece interior feels great against the skin and further enhances insulation against the cold. Hard training means plenty of energy expenditure but the C5 Infinium sits snugly to the body, ensuring you’re not wasting energy in battling a loose-fitting garment as you push hard on the pedals. The cycling-specific cut extends to the dropped tail, providing extra coverage when you’re in a riding position. A high collar keeps cold breezes off the chest and elastic wrist covers give a smooth seal against the elements. Reflective logos and panels make this jacket perfect for those determined to keep road cycling even on cold, dark winter days.

A Great Winter Jacket

I have worn the jacket now on three rides. I bought a Large size, at 180cm tall and ~76kg it is a very snug fit, but the sleeves are the correct length and it fits well on the
shoulders. The build quality is high and I wore it on some 2C temperature rides and it kept me warm and the wind out. I find Gore products to be high quality and long lasting.
I would recommend the jacket for winter and early spring rides.

Bought this last month from Sigma Sports. It’s a good quality winter jersey that provides ideal thermal protection from the wind and light rain. Not worn it yet in heavier rain
so can’t comment on that. I needed to go up in size but I think that is the norm nowadays with most cycling gear. The service from Sigma Sports was excellent as usual.

I bought a C5 Thermo a couple weeks ago and have tested it on two decently long rides.I wanted a windstopper jersey for dry days when my arms get cold with a thermal
jersey, base layer, and gilet, for me days between 30 and 50F. I find in those conditions a full length nylon coat just doesn't breathe well enough, and a full soft shell jacket is
just too bulky. I don't ride in the wet much and don't ride below 30F. With this jersey and the proper base layer, no gilet or arm warmers are necessary.I would consider this a
late fall, winter, and early spring jersey, not a jacket. It's got rear storage pockets like a jersey and it's not really waterproof though would probably be ok in a lig... Show more

With this jersey and the proper base layer, no gilet or arm warmers are necessary.I would consider this a late fall, winter, and early spring jersey, not a jacket. It's got rear storage pockets like a jersey and it's not really waterproof though would probably be ok in a light rain.I considered the Castelli Perfetto ROS long sleeve, this jersey's main competition. They both are around the same price and both use the Gore Infinium fabric which is a breathable windstopper. I tried on both the Castelli and the Gore.I believe the Castelli would breathe better due to a more breathable fabric on the back of the jersey. It is definitely lighter in total weight and stretchier than the C5. In those ways I thought maybe it was superior to the Gore.I prefer the pockets on the Gore, I like the 2 larger rear rather than the 3 smaller on the Castelli for accessing in cold weather with gloves on. The small zippered security pocket for keys and credit card on the Gore was a major thing for me, have to have that. Castelli does not have a zippered pocket and thus a deal breaker - too easy to lose a credit card when pulling layers or food out of a rear pocket.Fitwise, the Perfetto, as it is a Castelli, was way too tight for my 5'9" 180 pound build. Would have had to go up to XL or even 2XL to be large enough to layer under and sleeves and waist length would be WAY too long in those sizes.Fit on the Large Gore C5 was excellent for me. As a few other reviewers have noted, though, the sleeves are puzzlingly baggy. Everywhere else it is right on for a non super skinny Italian bike racer, normal sort of guy fit. I can wear nothing to a heavy weight base layer under it.The biggest criticism I have is I felt the jersey could breathe better. At 50F on a 100 mile day with some climbing I got a bit clammy and the jersey was a bit damp inside when I finished the ride. Even at lower temps I believe this would also happen due to the lack of breathability on the back of the jersey.Temperature range is always subjective depending on the individual, but for me 50 with a summer weight base layer was the warmest I could use this jersey. It could easily go below freezing with the proper weight base layer, and it seems to me that below 45 is where it would really excel.I ended up buying this jersey for the fit and zippered pocket. If the Castelli fits you and you can do without the zippered pocket, it may be a better option. The C5 is a great jersey but not perfect.... Show more

High quality winter jacket
30 January 2021
The Gore Wear C5 is a close fit but the XL size works well for the amply bodied. The cut is ideal for a position either on the hoods or drops with an extra long tail to cover the lower back. Even on the harshest of days, this jacket paired with a base layer is probably enough. A light fluorescent jacket is perhaps the only needed addition to make yourself seen. The cuffs are nice and tight and sleeves the right length. The only drawback are the pockets. The centre one misplaced too high to be able to contort a hand into safely when riding. The two side pockets are cut at an angle but this makes them too small to use with confidence.... Show more

I would buy it again
22 April 2023
Bought this jacket month ago. Tested in 5-14C - bit too warm over 10C I think but I prefer sweat too much than shake out of cold. Ventilation 4/5, warmth 5/5, price/performance 4.5/5 The only one tiny bit-I like to have small pocket on the chest which this jacket is missing. Overall great and warm piece of clothing... Show more

Just what I needed to see me through winter.
16 December 2020
Wanted: Light weight, thermal fleece with smart, breathable construction, snug fit to avoid wind flapping with ability to layer according to wide range of temps. Oh yes, make it wind-proof and water resistant too. So far, I've ridden in temps ranging from 32F to 59F with 20mph winds. Best cycling jacket I've had in 20 years of riding.... Show more

Nice jacket with garbage zipper
26 March 2023
I bought this jacket for fall/spring and some mild mid-winter riding, and it does that job well. Details like the cuffs and tail are well done, and it has a nice snug fit. My major complaint with this jacket is the zipper. It is a cheap plastic zipper with very fine teeth, and the teeth constantly catch the slide. Its only a matter of time before the zipper fails and I'm left with either an expensive repair or, worse, an unusable jacket. For the price of this jacket I would have expected better a better quality zipper. Disappointing product quality.... Show more

Really nice addition to my cold weather kit!
10 November 2020
Excellent cycling jacket for 25°-45°F. Roomy enough for various base layering, still sits close enough to the body so there is zero wind flapping. Here in New England varying weather is the norm. The C5 works great! Highly recommend for sure.... Show more

The need for a winter jacket
7 February 2023
I was after a serious winter jacket to cope with sub 5 deg. C temperatures and this one kept appearing in "best of" type reviews. I was a bit concerned that it seemed quite lightweight but it has an amazing fleecy lining that combined with a decent base layer, works very well on the coldest rides. It's light, has features like a zipped rear pocket and elasticated cuffs and hem and a collar liner that stands proud of the collar itself to offer a bit more neck protection. It fits well, although on my XL the arms are not quite as snug as I would like - but that works better if you're wearing a sleeved base layer. Overall, a great jacket - I probably should have given it 5 stars.... Show more

Warm, windproof, but not waterproof
6 January 2023
Went out today for a 50km ride, temperature about 10C, Wore a long sleeve underneath. All fine until it started raining. After about 20 minutes my arms were wet and cold. It might be because the arms are long and baggy. I'm 180cm and 85kg, 42in chest. I bought an XL, which is a little roomy. Tried a large but it was quite snug. Nice jacket, but not in the rain....
