A remake done right! Nostalgia + brains = win!

Here we go again. Another remake of another game from umpteen years ago.Thankfully that's the only negative thing I've got to say about this. First, I'm a fan of San Andrea's far more than GTA 3 & GTA Vice City. I played the latter to make sure they remain equally true to their respective originals, they do, but to me San Andrea's just has a substantially higher replay value to it. Nearly 20 years later and it still remains addictive. You'll need a memory card as the game us physical, but also very large. A 32 GB or more that's empty will more than suffice. The game play is untouched. The graphics are where you'll see a very moderate difference. And even there, it's only in the sense that the graphics have been cleaned up, made tidy, less choppy, etc. If you haven't played this in a long time you'll probably only barely notice it if at all. If you've never played this you'd probably swear that it's 100% identical to the PS2 & original Xbox version. And it essentially is. None of the characters or surroundings or vehicles, etc have changed in the slightest. They've just again been given a cleaned up treatment as far as the graphics go. Like I guess because they didn't rework the graphics to the point of making them full on HD, that they cleaned them up kind of gives the effect of a soft HD treatment. I suppose you could also say or argue that Rockstar merely corrected a few graphical issues, but not really, it's not glitchy, but it seems to have glitches the same as when it was on the PS2 & original Xbox. Meanwhile the controls have been adapted nicely. Somewhat different (hey, it's a different console) but also just way easy to adapt to too. While this being yet another remake is what I initially said is it's only flaw that's technically not wholly true. If you love one of these 3 games and only one, then you'll be stuck either getting all 3 or passing this by for that reason. Hopefully though that isn't too off-putting for most as if this game is super successful we're more likely to see a remake of Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories, and maybe even the equally desired GTA 5. GTA 4? Perhaps more likely than GTA 5. Hey, as powerful and capable as the Switch has shown itself to be it does still have limitations. I don't doubt it's ability to run GTA 5, but I do question it. If we have to have a clear memory card for this, GTA 5 will probably be strictly downloadable only because of it's size. I don't so much doubt the capability and capacity of the system so much as i doubt and question the size capability and capacity of the game cards. Especially as this has been shown several times so far to be a real thing for Switch games.

Having played all the Grand Theft Auto games, across multiple platform generations, it was exciting to try a fresh spin of old titles on the current gens. The graphics have been enhanced, but not terribly so, however adding a crispness to previous gens. Where these titles shine is in the controls. Though still a little clunky, having GTA-V style movements, responses, and targeting refreshes the familiar story lines and missions with new dynamics. For those that have traversed across the GTA universe, reliving fun characters, great music, and precarious situations on the newer consoles is a must.

I enjoyed playing these games again. They are all cleaned up graphically, and the stories still hold up strong. My favorite video game Franchise. I loved GTA Vice City and played if for hours. The characters and missions are like films themselves. Great to drive around in old cars and listen to great music. They all have neat trophies in each game.

Great Game - Bad port
24 February 2022

Game is still plagued with bugs, slow frame rates, compressed audio and low resolution graphics. Unfortunately the wait for a (delayed) physical version didn't pay off. There's no new patch for the physical release. Last year's patch is still the only one available. Although many bugs were fixed, the current state of the game on doesn't justify your money. By the way not all games are included you still have to download a considerable amount of data from the e-shop. It's a shame Rock Star and the third party developer didnt deliver the game fans were hoping for. GTA fans deserved better than the current mess.

Great game overall, worth purchasing in my opinion
14 October 2022

There are a lot of bad reviews on this game. I think that if you are a really big fan of the trilogy it's worth the price. If you are very picky about graphics and think that they should have put the most effort into making this a great remake you might be disappointed. The only thing I didn't like and I don't think anyone likes is how nasty the rain looks in the game. Watch YouTube videos to see what I am talking about.

It's fixed! Not a $60 package, more like $40.
17 June 2022

The game is much improved from the original. The newest patches also have fixed most of the glitches, so that I can now recommend The GTA Trilogy. I feel like the controls are also much improved. I wasn't able to effectively control the cars in the original version on Playstation 2. While the $60 price is a little high for 3 old games with no extras. So if you love the GTA series it's a great package now after the updatesIf you haven't played them is recommend waiting until it's on sale for $40. Either way it has hours and hours and hours of game play in one package.

Not a good remasters
8 November 2022

Allowing this game to exist on the market for a year, I decided to take the plunge and get the updated trilogy. I knew this game was broken when it came out, to the point where the reviews were highly critical. I played GTA III from this trilogy last year on PC when it first came out, which I couldn't get on with it so I discontinued playing. However, I gave it a year to see if the gameplay had improved on the PS4 version. Which all I can say is that it hasn't improved enough, it's actually worth the current price of £20.98 and not a penny more. But if anyone says it "takes them back" or they feel "nostalgia" playing this game, you instantly know they're not truly fans of the original releases. I would rather play the PS2 versions of these games, because quite honestly where I love Rockstar Games, this one is terrible and I think they need some honest game testers.

See how GTA got rolling, enjoy on PS4/5
5 July 2023

Rockstar and Sony did a good job producing these classic games for PS4/5. These were the original games that inspired me to buy a PS3 and many hours were spent enjoying them. By today's standards, they are quite dated and low-resolution. But they look and sound better than ever now, based on my experience on PS5. GTA was the franchise that made Rockstar the most important company in gaming. I recommend every gamer see how it started.

Steven's review of GTA Trilogy - Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch
30 December 2022

Pros: 3 classic games included in 1. Ability to play on the go and on the big screen. First portable console to receive these titles.Cons: Some bugs still need fixing, especially the white bar/flicker at the bottom of the screen on each game. If you look hard you will find bugs but the games are playable. The price is not really justified due to the overall finish of the games, had they been polished and tested before release would have made this re-release multi-title even better.

Wow I never expected this! The game is very very detailed well GTA Trilogy remastered I would recommend this version yup
25 January 2022

Im glad I bought it because it has so much been improved the details have so much been improved the environments for example there is weather elements that wasnt in the original game from 2002-2008! There is now lightning all over the city as well, nice the controls are still a little bit stiffly but you can customize the way you want to I was first shocked when I saw the characters as to what they did with them I realized that this game was in development hell so it almost wasnt released on the PS4! Anyway I definitely recommend this game especially if your a GTA fan! The only biggie with this theres no instruction booklet!? Not cool Rockstargames not cool at all!
