However, this puts more restrictions on the flexibility of the lock and it turned into a no-go for us.The chain fits through both front wheels well, plenty of room to manage it through. Installing it with the disk lock proved to be the deal-breaker. The weight of both items would result in always settling the lock down after placing the lock and removing the key, which now set of the armed lock. Hurry fast to unlock it before the alarm initiated, and back to trying to find a location where the lock/chain would not drop, setting off the alarm. When we DID find a location, we were still stymied by the angle which we had to remove the key. It was now too close to the tire and the ground to remove easily, and would again trigger the alarm. The key hole, being on the back end, made this a difficult application. It would have been a non-issue had the key hole been on the side. As it was, it became too time-consuming to think of going through this process every time we needed to lock the bikes. Thanks to Revzilla's return process, we returned the item, and for now bought a simpler Kryptonite Hardwire they offered to lock both bikes together. We'll take a little more time to investigate a disk alarm, but are still leaning towards one of the smaller ABUS units.... Show more

Great disc lock, chain is a pain!
17 October 2019
The disc lock is easy to use by itself, easily slips over the front disc of my FZ-07, and locks quickly. The keyway is at the end of the lock which makes it harder to access for me, but I suppose it also makes it harder for a thief. The problems begin with you are attempt to throw the chain into the mix. The chain has a C shaped link on one end that you loop through a large O link, then attach to the shank of the lock, before sliding it shut. Seems easy enough, right? It's not.The lock will only close all the way if the positioning of the lock itself and the C link are exactly right. The link must be exactly parallel to the lock and not too far down on the shank. It's not.The lock will only close all the way if the positioning of the lock itself and the C link are exactly right. The link must be exactly parallel to the lock and not too far down on the shank. As you are fussing around with all of these moving parts, with the heavy chain making things harder, the alarm is blaring in your face because it activates at about the halfway point of sliding the lock shut, and has a very short (maybe 5 second) arming time. The whole process is a pain in the ass and gets me cursing every single time.Additionally, the lock will not fit on the rear disc of my FZ-07, so whatever I'm locking to has to be near the front of the bike, but the chain is too short to lock to anything with any sort of circumference, or that isn't right next to the bike. Makes it useless in most city parking situations where you're backing into a spot.My suggestion: buy the disc lock, skip the chain. Find another chain solution.... Show more

I use the disc lock all the time
13 July 2015
This is a great disc lock. It's very easy to put on when the technique shown in the video is used. I put my orange warning cable on the inside of the lock before putting it on the disc, thereby keeping it secured while fastening the lock. The salesman wasn't sure if the chain could be used with the lock affixed to the disc. It can, but it takes some practice and coordination to get it right. The chain can also be used with the lock as a standalone lock, putting it around a solid fixed object. If it's disturbed, the alarm will sound, attracting attention. Using it on the disc gives an extra level of security. I loop the chain through my wheel and then around the fixed object, usually some sort of pole, by passing the chain through the round link. The round link goes into the body of the lock, activating the alarm function. Then the "claw" end of the chain is attached to the arm of the lock.I use the disc lock by itself for quick trips away from the bike. For longer times away from the bike, I use both the disc lock and the chain. A lighter chain would be easier to carry around, but then it would not provide this level of security. I keep my chain in a padded case (with my tools) in a hard saddle bag that's always on the bike, so it's not a big deal.I realize that good locks keep the honest people honest. But the harder you make it for the DIShonest, the better chance there is, that they'll just go elsewhere and look for an easier target.... Show more

Lots of options
23 February 2015
Bought this lock and chain and have been using it for some time. What I really like about this lock and chain is not only the quality, but the fact that it offers you a range of options: you can use just the disc lock (armed or unarmed [just remove the batteries]) for when you don't want the weight of a chain or the disc lock with the loop hole chain when you feel the need (armed or unarmed). Gives you four options - and I really like having that flexibility. The alarm is sufficiently loud. I bought the yellow disc lock to 1) make it obvious to would be thieves 2) make it obvious to me so I don't inadvertantly ride off with it on my disc.... Show more

Nice lock + chain combo
28 July 2020
Well this is Abus lock+chain combo: strong, nice and works well. All as expected. This specific lock+chain combo can be mounted either on the brake rotor without the chain, or on the chain that comes with it. Chain has to bee looped on itself. So you sort of have both solutions in one: chained lock and a brake-rotor lock. I even have a feeling that it's possible to lock it on the chain and on the front rotor at the same time.Alarm is loud indeed and is removable from the lock. But it will only engage if there is something depressing the "ball" part. I.e. there will be no alarm, if you don't close the lock on the rotor. This also allows to transport a closed lock without triggering the alarm. The "ball" part is actually plastic lever and is a part of the alarm ... MoreWell this is Abus lock+chain combo: strong, nice and works well. Serious protection!
21 January 2022
This lock system is heavy duty and well made. Feels secure and will likely hold up for a long time, especially the chain. The one issue is the disc lock. It?s difficult to find just the right position to get it locked with the chain on, and the alarm goes off sometimes when locking it. Definitely a learning curve.Once it is on, things are great!... Use it with Litelok X1
2 June 2023
I don't use this with the lock it's meant for. I use it with my Litelok X1. The noose feature allows me to be farther away from a parking meter or whatever. Solid construction, and I like that it has the fabric protection on the outside. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish I could have found a chain without the doohickey on the end for the Detecto lock.... Show more

Versatile and strong
28 June 2016
I live in NYC and keep my bikes parked in a secure garage. When I park on the street, I always use the disc lock. If it's for longer than a quick stop, I use the additional chain to lock it down to a fixed object. I feel secure knowing this lock is on the bike. For the record, I've used other locks and have had one bike stolen and one attempted theft. This lock is a deterrent and I prefer to have thieves move on because this lock is a pain to break and will also draw attention with the alarm.... Show more
