Great Lakes Gelatin Gelatin, Beef Hide, Unflavored - 16 oz
Gelatin is the purified protein derived by the selective hydrolysis of collagen from the skin, the connective tissue and/or bones of animals. Great Lakes Gelatin provides the highest type of pure unflavoured edible gelatins. Gelatin is a hot water soluble protein extracted from collagen. Individual collagen monomeric proteins have molecular weights of between 95,000 and 125,000 Daltons. These proteins assemble into fibres which are massive aggregates and do not have defined molecular weights. To make gelatin, collagen rich materials (such as bovine hide) are cleaned and treated with dilute alkaline, or acid and heat to denature (untangle) the collagen into hot water-soluble proteins. The extract is purified and dried to form the gelatin powder. Essentially, gelatin is thermally denatured (melted) form of collagen that makes the proteins soluble in hot water. Each stage of the manufacturing process is rigorously controlled in modern laboratories to ensure purity and quality. The process of converting collagen into gelatin involves several cleansing and purification steps. The end result is an off white dry powder of the utmost purity. This special grade of gelatin meets the specifications set forth by the U.S. Pharmacopeia, regulated by National Formulary. All grades of gelatin are prepared under the most rigid sanitary conditions.

Thank. My orders were delivered very fast, just in few days.I like your products collagen/gelatin. I'm 65+ y.o. and used already about 5 years. That really work for joints and skin in good ways. I used daily 1 table spoon ones a day in morning with hot drinks. Sometimes I do skip, but after about a week joints pain, back pain, stiffness and many wrinkles on my skin come back. There is recommendation to use two table spoons twice a day. On the beginning I use that recommendation, but after while I noticed that started a heart problem. That why I reduced recommendation dosage to 1 table spoon.

I can tell a difference when I use this gelatin. Since I was a child, my fingernails have been weak, and chipped easily. They were so thin I could put them on a book page and see the type through them, and if one of them happened to grow long enough, the white area could bend in half. I tried different polishes to strengthen them, but nothing ever worked. A number of years ago (about age 60) I discovered Great Lakes collagen powder and started using it. I had some improvement in my fingernails, in their strength and some resistance to breaking. Then, a couple of years ago I also started using the Great Lakes gelatin. My fingernails are almost normal now. They are longer and much stronger. I still get occasional splitting and breaking, but it is infrequent. I know it's the gelatin working, because if I get too busy to make it often, I can tell from the weakness and more frequent breaking of my nails, and then when I start having the gelatin again, in a few weeks I can tell that they are better again. FYI, I make a glass tray of coconut water (about 32 oz.) and add as much of the gelatin powder as I can, to make large square gummies. And I do this at least once a week, or sometimes twice a week, and I have them as part of my lunch.

I have been using this gelatin for a couple years now and love it. I use it to make gummies and marshmallows, and put it in adrenal "cocktails" to give myself a little extra protein. It's flavorless and mixes well with liquid. I will continue to order this gelatin for sure!

I originally got this for my cat who was limping a lot. It started to help him almost immediately. Now he runs around like a young cat!!!Then I thought, if it can help his joints, maybe it could help mine. And the answer to that is a resounding YES!!! I can definitely feel a difference in my joints since taking it.I will never be without it!!!
I unlike most of your customers does not use the gelatin to cook with. I use it strictly for strength in my bones. I didn’t have pain just needed a chair lift and had to pull myself by the hand rail up stairs and couldn’t get up fron a low seat. Since starting a cup of coffee with a tablespoon of the gelatin in it I can do all of that with my hands full and no help from hand rails or anything else. So in my mind your Gelatin was a life saver.
I have been using Great Lakes Beef Gelatin since 2017. I moved recently and, because of the pandemic, have not been able to conveniently find it locally. Just used the last of my last can and decided to order directly from Great Lakes. So glad I did. The product arrived rapidly and was well packaged. Just in time to make another batch of fruit-flavored gelatin. I make my own so I can control the type and amount of sweetener and type of fruits/vegetables. I find the gelatin helps with controlling the joint aches I am feeling as I age. With Great Lakes Beef Gelatin, I can make 5 cups of gelatin with 2 1/2 Tablespoons powdered gelatin and get a very nice consistency in the finished product. If you haven't tried this in your coffee or tea, you have to! It thickens it just a little bit and gives it a nice malty taste and texture. So good. Bonus: consuming products from cows who are raised humanely and as naturally as possible (and grass-fed!!!!) encourages more farmers (and maybe even Big Ag) to raise their cows in this fashion. I love that my body is benefitting--and so are the cows!
When I read the review by the person who hated this product because it didn't dissolve, I bought the NOW brand instead because it claims to dissolve completely and it did. I next tried this brand and found that there were little chewy clumps that didn't dissolve no matter how long I left it in warm water before drinking. NOW brand states to store in a cool, dry place, so I stored it in the refrigerator. This brand does not make any statements about storage, so I left it on the counter. After two days of it not dissolving completely, I put it in the refrigerator. That was the solution. Store in the refrigerator; dissolve it in warm water and it will completely dissolve. I certainly wasn't looking forward to finishing this whole container with chewy clumps in every ... MoreWhen I read the review by the person who hated this product because it didn't dissolve, I bought the NOW brand instead because it claims to dissolve completely and it did. I started using beef gelatin powder almost a year ago. I was skeptical, but desperate to relieve my joint pain. After 2 weeks of use, I was very happy and surprised. My joint pain was letting up, and that is like a miracle. I have psoriatic arthritis. Also psoriasis. That is a rash in spots. Plus, I am 54 years old, so my face was showing my age. After 3 weeks of use, my joint pain was so much less! My psoriasis was way better, my face began to look younger! That's the magic of collagen. After almost a year of using a tablespoon a day, my joint pain is gone and it's all because of this beef gelatin. Before I used it, my shoulder would flair up in so much pain. My knuckles hurt! Dr's never ever suggested beef gelatin. It's a shame and I wish everyone knew that beef ... MoreI started using beef gelatin powder almost a year ago. It's a shame and I wish everyone knew that beef gelatin will rebuild your joints and skin and connective tissues! My nails grow so fast! My facial skin looks 10 years younger! My hair grows faster. No joke!I put it in my coffee in the morning.I suggest not putting the whole tablespoon into one cup of coffee. I have, but it is better for me to split the tablespoon between 2 cups of coffee. ‚òï.I seldom leave reviews on products. This is an exception. This product is life!
Grass-fed beef gelatin. My family and I use this in soups, baked goods, and dessert dishes. Quality product that's excellent for hair and nails in addition to Great Lakes collagen. I use both and recommend them. The gelatin mixes easy in hot liquid and has no taste. It's Kosher and might be ok for Halal diets too. Current Vitacost image is of the very old red packaging. It actually has the newer green label of the Great Lakes line.
