Upon receiving the axe, I noticed that it was very well beveled and sharpened. The contours seemed just right for soft woods. The handle is hung properly and is comfortable. I took it out to test, and it bit better than any ax designed for soft wood that I have used.I haven’t had it long enough to speak to its longevity or edge holding abilities, but I expect that it is of heirloom quality.

Axe edge chipped chopping 1" branch might of hit one of those glass knots i.d.k. was i do know all i hit was wood. also was a little Unsemetrical where the handle meets the axe head.Contacted the rep. After many e.mails they will take back the axe back with me paying the shipping.Iwill test it a few more times before i send it back.Sharpened the edge and it cuts like a lazer. My opinion is they bang these things out to quik.

My review headline is a tad misleading as I believe this is the most useable axe gransfors makes. If you told me I had to choose one axe to use for the rest of time it would be the scandi (please don't ever make me truest choose)Swing- this axe swings well above it's weight class. I have harvested trees far that would have been better suited to my American felling axe, but the little scandi preformed admirably. The niche this axe fills for me is limbing and felling 12" or smaller treesNow the reason for my disappointment... this is the 5th gransfors axe I have purchased. I followed the same oiling and care as I have with every other axe I own, am unable to keep the head on the handle. I refitted it using the original wedge to no avail. I am waiting on a response ... MoreMy review headline is a tad misleading as I believe this is the most useable axe gransfors makes. I am waiting on a response from gransfors but very disappointed that a nearly 200$ axe will not keep the head on the handle. Very uncharacteristic for a gransfors axe, extremely disappointing none the less. Forgers marking BK maybe stay away from his run of axes?

Great, reliable axe that looks and feels amazing. No issues with keeping the edge and it's perfectly balanced. I bought a small forest axe for camp chores, but use this for all other applications. I honestly prefer its size over its little brother. Being 6'2, it can easily be handled with one or two hands, depending on the chore.
Quality of the blade itself looks good, but the workmanship on the handle leaves a bit to be desired. Clearly sanded by someone who didn't know what they were doing or in a rush. Rough sanded with a low grit against the grain of the wood so there are scratch marks all over it. In some areas feels like I might get a sliver. Luckily I know what I'm doing so ill clean it up and put a proper coat of finish on it. But I would expect more of a product of this price-point.
You're likely here because you've heard the rumours, watched a few YouTube videos or have a crazy uncle that has gifted you a Scandinavian Forest Axe or Small Forest Axe. Well, you know - knowledge of this axe is of phenomenal benefit. Keep researching as this axe really is an amazing product and the internet doesn't lie. Its perfectly balanced, unbelievably crafted and backed by a 20 year guarantee. Gransfors says this is for limbing - but in reality it can take down and/or split a young forest. I've split, chopped and played with 6-8" diametre trunks while camping. For me the real difference between the need for the Scandinavian Forest Axe (3.5" face, 25" handle + 2.6 lb weight) and the Small Forest Axe (3.25" face, 19" handle + 2 lb head) is the individual's ... MoreYou're likely here because you've heard the rumours, watched a few YouTube videos or have a crazy uncle that has gifted you a Scandinavian Forest Axe or Small Forest Axe. Both are very similar and unbelievably well made. And if a Zombie Apocalypse occurred tomorrow - you'd not be disappointed by a Gransfors Bruks Forest Axe as your main defense. Give one of these a little love and it will become a family heirloom.
I purchased a Scandinavian Forest Axe for my father as a Christmas gift. He was thrilled - he hasn't used it yet, but I am fully confident that it will get the job done without any issues (it is RAZOR sharp and the head is solidly secured to the handle). If you are on the lookout for an axe that is more powerful than the Small Forest Axe yet less tiring to use than the American Felling Axe, this one is definitely worth looking into. It is pricey, but I think it is worth every penny.
I'm a small woman and needed an axe that was capable of taking down trees, yet was not too large or heavy for me to pack into the rough terrain in which I'm working. This axe meets all of my needs. As is typical for a GB axe, it is as sharp as a razor blade (that is not an exaggeration... it will cut paper better than my Morakniv!). This is my forth Gransfors Bruk axe and if I could own all of them, I would. I'd also buy them all from Canadian Outdoor Equipment. They have the best prices on GB axes that I've ever found. And, their customer service is topnotch. Every time I've called, they've helped me with my needs. This is the best axe and they are the best supplier!
I have had this axe for 3 months now and it completely changed my opinion on axes. I thought they were a stupid waste of time for useful only for clubbing roots in the dirt.First off it is much smaller and lighter weight then I expected. It is more effective then a chainsaw for branches up to 2" diameter. One swing and they are instantly severed. Unbelievable chopper for limbing and trees less then 8" in diameter. It cuts hardwood (maples, oaks) and softwood (pines, conifers) equally well. That being said it completely terrible and sucks at splitting but who cares it's not ment for that. Also it will "run out of steam" in a big tree and you'll want something heavier for that but once again its not it's intended use.All in all a magical product that shines at limb ... MoreI have had this axe for 3 months now and it completely changed my opinion on axes.
