I recently returned to cycling after a very long hiatus. For the first few rides, that were over an hour in two in length, I was crashing when I got back home. One of the guys at Performance Cycle recommended Gu for during and after my trips. I must say that energy replenishment has come a long way since we use to carry PB&J sandwiches or Fig Newtons in a he back of our jerseys!!! Taking a Gu Gel pack an hour into the ride, along with an energy/protein bar at the halfway point, along with another Gu Gel pack on the return trip, has made me ride further and longer than I previous could. I no longer feel tired, or crashing on trips, and when I'm done, I almost feel I could go further, longer and faster!!! If I was a skeptic before, I'm a believer now!!! Gu is part of ... I have type 1 diabetes. These worked very well in keeping my blood glucose from dropping too low or going too high while on a bike ride. I took three packets over the course of the ride, and this was the best BG control I've had. I very much appreciate finding something that worked so well. They also taste good!

These energy gels taste great and give me a boost when I'm doing long cycling sessions or out doing hiking, but you don't have to be an athlete to benefit from them, even just moderate cardio can get you very exhausted. It's been difficult to find a good energy option that's caffeine free, but these were fantastic! When it feels like I'm getting tired and I'm thinking about needing to cut my adventure short, I open up one of these and within 10 minutes I feel like I'm back! My muscles come back online and I feel like I can keep going as long as I want. Definitely made a fan out of me!

I took three packets over the course of the ride, and this was the best BG control I've had. I very much appreciate finding something that worked so well. They also taste good!

Like many reviewers, I have Type 1 diabetes, insulin controlled for over 65 years. I am also a backpacker, and have learned that the exertion of toting a load of gear tends to result in low glucose, no matter how much I try to adjust my insulin dosage. When that happens, I need glucose easy and quick. Gu Energy Gel is my go to fix. And my favorite is Vanilla Bean. Please keep making it...all the new-fangled energy dots and shots just don't do the job.
These were the first gels that I tried, and I haven't even bothered to buy other brands because these work so well. They're almost exactly the same consistency and even taste of pudding. The chocolate outrage and vanilla bean are easily mistakable for pudding in a blind taste test. Not a big fan of the caffeine in some of the flavors, but it is what it is. I like Vanilla Bean and Orange the best, but all are pretty good. Make sure you use water to wash it down though- made that mistake on my first 2+ hour run with 4 of these gels. Learned my lesson though. For some reason I expected these to be slightly larger in size and slightly drier/pastier, but that was just a preconceived notion I had. Over all a great product, I order/consume a box of 24 in a bout a week.
This product works great ! I use it for mountain biking and I am able to ride faster with less break time and fatigue . I also recover faster with less soreness . However it takes little bit of getting use to the consistency of the gu . I suggest consume the pack in small amounts . It’s also is sticky so try not to get it too much on your hands and fingers…but it wipes off easy with water . Once again this is a great product 👍🏾
Recently tried PB Choc, Salted Caramel, Salted Watermelon, and Root Beer. Still not sure what took so long to combine PB and Chocolate but so glad it finally happened. Perfect blend of both flavors and its surprisingly smooth, thought would be a little thick (like PB and chocolate separately are) but it is blended really well and tastes great. Salted caramel was my #1 choice all of last year and its still in the top 3 but salted watermelon has now taken over the top spot. Mainly because I like the fruitier taste, especially on longer workouts in the heat. Salted caramel was great for the first couple of hours in 85= temps but in the fifth hour it got a little hard to put down. Was very impressed with the taste and was happy that it was not too strong of a root beer taste but just enough to satisfy the craving. On long runs I start craving pop and this will be great for that.

In fact, my numbers stay almost perfectly straight, I have learned not to enter the carbs into my pump and it balances out.Now I keep 6-8 Gu in my turnout gear and just got back from 2 calls, my numbers were 135 when I got back to the station and I felt refreshed and ready to go back out! Tried the TRI-BERRY flavor, after other flavors that I like, this was a tasty treat. I like sweets.I have experimented with the energy gels' using', 'not using', 'after30 minutes' changing timing, on a controlled 33 mile route I pedal for workouts, consistent temperature, water intake and time of day; I have found that when I delay or skip the gels, I can tell the difference in energy/firepower. Ingesting a gel later is better than not, as I sense a pick up 5-6 miles down the route. Cold water, small recovery segments and GU gels have made a big difference in performance.

I was nervous about GU being tough on my belly. Luckily, it has not been! I find GU easy to eat when running.
