30m thick thread good: 100m thin thread bad
There is nothing wrong with the above pictured product itself and it is the correct thread for my project. Your staff are all very pleasant. However a few months ago, when I first asked about which thread to use for my upholstery project, one of your staff gave me the wrong advice. (She is a very pleasant person.) But, she gave me the wrong advice because she told me that the thinner thread would be suitable for upholstery. In fact, for upholstery the thicker thread is required. The "Gutermann Top Stitch Thread 30m Electric Blue (322)" is indeed the correct thicker thread for upholstery: it was my upholstery teacher who told me this after I had also previously purchased on the earlier occassion the thinner Gutermann thread which is 100m. Excellent thread
I love this thread, it might be more expensive than others, but it is worth it. The quality of the stitches on your sewing machine speaks volumes. If you are doing top stitching, or any other stitches that will show, choose this thread. It will make your garment more professional. I definitely recommend this thread.... Show more

Extortionate price for a reel of thread!
This item has recently increased in price to more than £8 for 500m of polyester thread, an extortionate price for a quite ordinary thread. Instead of the 2 reels that i needed i left the shop with only one. Hobbycraft needs to consider their customers and the current cost of living crisis and search the market for an alternative manufacturer. This kind of price increase for sewing basics is untenable.... Show more

Good thread, less shine
I wanted a thread that would really stand out in a project, even a thread that I could possibly lace with yarn to add a pop of sparkle. It's metallic, yes, but even so, there's less of a shine than I had anticipated. Good thread still, but it has a little less of a wow factor than I was hoping for. However, if you want a little pop without going too crazy, I think this yarn would be perfect.... Show more

Good thread, with great reel design.
I bought the strong thread (on 30 metre reels). The fine thread is on 100 m reels. Once I got my head round this I could then order the correct thread for me. The listings aren't always that clear on this aspect. Choosing the correct colour is a bit hit and miss, as the listings sometimes list the colours by the Gutermann colour code ("000" is black!). Once I got the right thread and the right colour I was able to start my work. The thread seems to be good quality, with no lumps or weak patches, in my experience. My thread was strong enough and the colour was consistent. There were two areas which caused me slight problems, but these are probably common to all makes of thread. Firstly, sometimes there was a tendency for the thread to twist into loops as I pulled it ... MoreI bought the strong thread (on 30 metre reels). The fine thread is on 100 m reels. My thread was strong enough and the colour was consistent. There were two areas which caused me slight problems, but these are probably common to all makes of thread. Firstly, sometimes there was a tendency for the thread to twist into loops as I pulled it through, and secondly, the loose end tended to unravel slightly after many stitches. Full marks for the fantastic design of the reels, which had little locking tabs round the periphery at one end, which held the free end and stopped the thread unravelling off the reel. This is a much better system than found on cotton reels of old. The reels themselves are longer and of smaller diameter than traditional UK reels. I do not know if this is a problem for sewing machines, as I have not investigated this. Allin all, I think 5 stars is justified.... Show more

Needs a disc of felt to stop it spinning
The large reel of thread is significantly better value for money than the smaller versions, but it is too big for the standard felt disc that sits under the reel on top of a typical sewing machine. I never noticed that the felt disc stops the reel from continuing to spin when you stop sewing. Until I worked out what was happening and added a larger felt disc, the tension was getting messed up on my machine - either spinning and getting slack, or getting tangled under the reel and becoming much too tight. I asked a haberdashery assistant about using a larger reel on my machine before making the purchase and they didn't warn me about this issue, which could easily have been prevented. Possibly some training needed?... Show more

Perfect thread
Perfect thread, thin, strong and ends to not fray or separate. It's the first decent thread I have seen in years of buying American brand threads. And it's so much beyond decent I can't believe it. So easy to use, so sturdy and EASY to threat into tiny machine needle holes, no separating at the ends. My new forever thread.... Show more

Reliable, good quality sewing thread.
I have preferred Gutermann Sewing Thread for some time and have found it one of the best, if not the best brand to use. I have less snarls and missed stitches with this brand. It has proven to be a strong thread and my sewing is secure. This is important because I make and sew ballet shoes. The color range is terrific and it makes me feel good using a recycled polyester product. I definitely recommend it.... Show more

The BEST AP thread
I’ve been using this brand since my N00b sewing days and even when I’ve royally messed up, it’s never frayed or broke, which is more than I can say for the other brands on the JoAnn shelf. It’s actually pretty difficult to break the thread when you want to with a seam ripper; you have to cut about every third straight stitch. Three yards of removed stitches and it’s time to buy a new seam ripper. I’ve had quilting fabric fall apart with 100x machine washes before the thread gave out.Honestly, I can’t say enough about Gutermann quality. I use nothing else.... Show more
