I wanted to try some new brands of embroidery thread and found a color I thought would be perfect. Originally I had a few different colors in my bag but thankfully I decided to just try one. I have a Janome 500E and was creating a design that I've made at least 100 times before, so I know it had nothing to do with digitizing. The thread was CONSTANTLY breaking. I played with setting and kept trying because I really did like the color but at this point I just gave up because it just kept breaking. Literally every minute or two. I really don't recommend this product at all

Extortionate price for a reel of thread!

This item has recently increased in price to more than £8 for 500m of polyester thread, an extortionate price for a quite ordinary thread. Instead of the 2 reels that i needed i left the shop with only one. Hobbycraft needs to consider their customers and the current cost of living crisis and search the market for an alternative manufacturer. This kind of price increase for sewing basics is untenable.

Good thread, less shine

I wanted a thread that would really stand out in a project, even a thread that I could possibly lace with yarn to add a pop of sparkle. It's metallic, yes, but even so, there's less of a shine than I had anticipated. Good thread still, but it has a little less of a wow factor than I was hoping for. However, if you want a little pop without going too crazy, I think this yarn would be perfect.

Good thread, with great reel design.

I bought the strong thread (on 30 metre reels). The fine thread is on 100 m reels. Once I got my head round this I could then order the correct thread for me. The listings aren't always that clear on this aspect. Choosing the correct colour is a bit hit and miss, as the listings sometimes list the colours by the Gutermann colour code ("000" is black!). Once I got the right thread and the right colour I was able to start my work. The thread seems to be good quality, with no lumps or weak patches, in my experience. My thread was strong enough and the colour was consistent. There were two areas which caused me slight problems, but these are probably common to all makes of thread. My thread was strong enough and the colour was consistent. There were two areas which caused me slight problems, but these are probably common to all makes of thread. Firstly, sometimes there was a tendency for the thread to twist into loops as I pulled it through, and secondly, the loose end tended to unravel slightly after many stitches. Full marks for the fantastic design of the reels, which had little locking tabs round the periphery at one end, which held the free end and stopped the thread unravelling off the reel. This is a much better system than found on cotton reels of old. The reels themselves are longer and of smaller diameter than traditional UK reels. I do not know if this is a problem for sewing machines, as I have not investigated this. Allin all, I think 5 stars is justified.

Great value, very useful

I love these 1000m reels from Gütermann. They are more economic than buying the smaller reels and last for ages - no running out half way through a project! A selection of greys and naturals will cover a lot of colours so big reels of these basics are a good purchase.I also pop it on my overlocker - only on the needle stitching position, if I need a good match. All round great quality thread for most sewing.

Guttermann thread is aa very good thread. However hobbycraft haberdashery is very overpriced. I can get a greater rangge at a local haberdashery and wool shhop a. Few mmiilles away. I only purchased this product because i was in a rush.

Luxurious fabric inside and out.
2 July 2021

Great weight to work with. Gorgeous color. Ironed beautifully. Fabric had wonderful body and for extra support I used a light weight interfacing.. Bodice was 1 yard and 6 yards for the skirt. Boning worked beautifully in the bodice on all seams including the bust of which the Burda pattern did not call for. Lined the garment with the stretch silk charmeuse lightly interfaced for extra support to the bodice. Fit like a glove and felt luxurious inside and out. I loved that the silk was a slightly different shade than the taffeta. Made it interesting and they complimented each other.Thread was not as strong as expected. Kept twisting while hand stitching. Nice color match.

Reliable, good quality sewing thread.

I have preferred Gutermann Sewing Thread for some time and have found it one of the best, if not the best brand to use. I have less snarls and missed stitches with this brand. It has proven to be a strong thread and my sewing is secure. This is important because I make and sew ballet shoes. The color range is terrific and it makes me feel good using a recycled polyester product. I definitely recommend it.

The BEST AP thread
31 December 2021

I’ve been using this brand since my N00b sewing days and even when I’ve royally messed up, it’s never frayed or broke, which is more than I can say for the other brands on the JoAnn shelf. It’s actually pretty difficult to break the thread when you want to with a seam ripper; you have to cut about every third straight stitch. Three yards of removed stitches and it’s time to buy a new seam ripper. I’ve had quilting fabric fall apart with 100x machine washes before the thread gave out.Honestly, I can’t say enough about Gutermann quality. I use nothing else.

the best thread
26 August 2023

i love gutermann thread, its versatile, works well and the color range is immaculate. i also find that the narrow spools work better on my vintage sewing machine then the normal spools. the price is GREAT for what you get, especially when the sales roll around. :)
