Okay, as a breastfeeding mom of two, totaling almost 4 years of breastfeeding, let me just say WOW! The Haakaa is literally a game changer. When you have a newborn, your boobs go through a really leaky couple of months before your milk regulates. Pop the Haakaa on the free boob while you nurse, and collect all of the milk that would have otherwise been wasted leaking into your bra or pad. Feeling engorged? Haakaa! Need to pump and don’t have an electricity source? Haakaa. Need a travel size pump that you can always take on the go? Haakaa. My Haakaa would produce more milk than my expensive electric Spectra 2 could ever produce. This is my most recommended product for new breastfeeding moms! I’d always recommend for first time moms who are looking to BF to use this product. It provides great suction on the boob you attach it to while nursing on the other. It’s a great source of collecting milk letdown/extra milk while breastfeeding baby directly on boob. It has great accessories such as the flower stopper to prevent milk spilling when placing the haakaa down after use. This product is also amazing when experiencing mastitis or clogged ducts. Add some epsom salt in the Haakaa mixed in with warm warm and provides relief on your clogged milk. 10/10 recommend

I was prone to getting blocked ducts with both kids. If you know, you know! This is the worst feeling and can be extremely painful. I had the Haakaa as I would use it from time to time when I was either breastfeeding or using my single pump. I quickly learned that with warm water, Epsom salt and the Haakaa you can clear a clogged duct. This was my new go to and saved my life (and boobs!) more then I can count. It was also super handy to have for when I was using my single pump or breastfeeding, I could easily place it on my other without fear of it coming off.

I have to give this a low rating I’m sorry, as it didn’t work for me at all. I found it quite painful, even though I’d been breastfeeding for a good six months when I got it. I thought it would be a good alternative to an electric pump which I couldn’t afford, but I needed to pump to keep up my supply while my baby was getting formula top ups. At best I was able to get a few drops in the bottom, at worst the few drops in the bottom were bloodstained. I do know an actual human in real life that swore by your pump when she had a baby though, and I’ve seen people in my NZ Facebook groups recommend it so clearly it does work for some women. Equally though I’ve seen many women online for whom it did not work. Equally though I’ve seen many women online for whom it did not work. I was able to buy a hand pump with a handle which did the trick for me, and later an electric pump which worked even better.I’ve given you a generous two stars though, because every time I’ve had blocked ducts, the Epsom salts trick has worked a treat to unblock them. Unfortunately this product was useless to me in place of a breast pump, which is the main reason for me shelling out money for the Haakaa. Also why oh why would you not include a lid or flower with each pump? You need something to be able to seal it off, especially if you’re using it to catch letdown, the baby could easily kick it over while you’re finishing the feed. For the price of this, which you can get a cheap electric pump for less, it needs to include some sort of cap. All the other breast pumps do. It’s heartbreaking to spill even a drop of precious milk, and with no cap, that’s what we’re risking each time.
If you're looking for a true manual pump, then keep looking--I wouldn't call this a manual "pump" as much as a milk collection system. However, I still highly recommend it--it does its job well! I would recommend this in particular for moms with forceful letdowns or those who leak on the other side when you have a letdown--your milk will be leaving your body anyways, so you may as well catch and save it lol. Starting when my milk came in, I'd feed baby on one side and attach this on the other side to catch the let down--doing this just occasionally in just the first few weeks, I was able to collect over 50oz to add to my freezer stash (which would have been wasted into nursing pads or a burp cloth otherwise). I never got great at truly "pumping" with it, but when I tried, I could easily get 2oz, enough to ease engorgement or boost my supply.
I am a first time mom so when I picked up this pump I was excited about the natural suction for milk extraction and overall design because it wasn’t intimidating. I would say that this pump is 50/50 for me. Sometimes I can get a good suction and get a lot of milk out and other times I don’t. I am also exclusively pumping and at this point I find the pump to be extremely time consuming and inconvenient especially for middle of the night pumping. I’m glad I have it just in case but I have since upgraded to a manual pump. If you are someone who finds manual or electric pumping uncomfortable or hate cleaning their parts every pump then I recommend this to you otherwise I’m not sure who this would really be for.
I was recommended this by my lactation consultant for late night engorgement relief. My newborn has been sleeping for up to 5 hours at a time at night which is great for sleep, but leaves my breasts very engorged by the time baby is ready to feed next. I’ve had been pumping in between feeding sessions, but was getting tired of the uncomfortableness and cleaning tiny parts after each pumping session. This product is a game changer! I get just as much milk from my Haakaa as I do from my pump. The Haakaa is A LOT more comfortable and doesn’t leave me sore. It is a lot more convenient to clean too! I was worried that it would be hard to pour milk from the Haakaa to milk storage bags, but the spout is basically like a funnel and gives surprisingly good pouring control. I purchased this after trawling through reviews to figure out if this would be a suitable, portable option for expressing on my return to work. Lots of ladies had commented that it was so good they'd thrown away their electric pump so I was optimistic. Perhaps if you had a desk job and could just leave this on it might be ok? But the gentle, constant suction is inadequate to efficiently extract milk. It might work to catch let down on the opposite side, but the ladybug (which I adore) does this job perfectly. Unfortunately this was a wasted purchase for me.
I started using this when I felt my milk come in and breasts were engorged. I bought a manual breast pump, electric pump and a wearable pump. I ditched all the other pumps but this one. I got tired of washing and sterilizing the million little pieces and making sure my wearable pump was charged or I was near an outlet to plug my electric pump to. I still use my Elvie Catch for catching letdown when nursing, but I exclusively use the Haakaa to pump/express. I literally just suction the Haakaa on, watch tv and 15 mins later, I have about enough milk to feed my 6-week old for one session!
So I almost gave up on pumping. I have tried so many different pumps, and nothing would work for me. All the pumps were too painful, and yes… I made sure every flange was the right size. Saw this thing at my store and decided to give it a try before I completely gave up. I’m so glad I bought this! It’s super easy to use, and I can even go hands free! This pump took me a few tries to get it to work, but once I saw the milk start to fill the bottle, I nearly cried! How this small silicone pump is better than every other pump out there is beyond me… but I was finally happy and relieved. On a side note, I absolutely adore the flower stopper. Once you’re done pumping, just throw that stopper on top and put the pump in the fridge. Don’t have to worry about it spilling!
