Decided to finally buy a Haakaa after hearing both lactation consultants and breastfeeding moms rave about it. I just got it yesterday evening, so I haven't quite mastered how to use it while nursing on the other side, but it was so helpful during my late night feeding last night! My daughter sleeps for about 5-6 hours at a time, and by the time she gets up to nurse my breasts are super full, making it a struggle for her to latch, and usually resulting in me having to drag out all the supplies for my electric pump once she's done because she will only take from one breast. With the Haakaa, I avoided all those frustrations. When I first started hearing her stir, I grabbed my Haakaa and attached it to each breast until I had about an ounce and a half from each one. This is a great pump to use. It’s so easy. I can usually get a decent amount every time I use it. At first when bub was little I would use it on the side I wasn’t nursing on. Now if I pump I can still use it on the opposite side and it gets a decent amount which makes pumping quicker when needed. Well worth the purchase. Would be great for someone who wants to create a freezer stash but dislikes the idea of pumping with an electric pump. A tip I learnt was to fold the flange back and squeeze haakaa and then attach it, that way it will not fall off.

I have to give this a low rating I’m sorry, as it didn’t work for me at all. I found it quite painful, even though I’d been breastfeeding for a good six months when I got it. I thought it would be a good alternative to an electric pump which I couldn’t afford, but I needed to pump to keep up my supply while my baby was getting formula top ups. At best I was able to get a few drops in the bottom, at worst the few drops in the bottom were bloodstained. I do know an actual human in real life that swore by your pump when she had a baby though, and I’ve seen people in my NZ Facebook groups recommend it so clearly it does work for some women. Equally though I’ve seen many women online for whom it did not work. Equally though I’ve seen many women online for whom it did not work. I was able to buy a hand pump with a handle which did the trick for me, and later an electric pump which worked even better.I’ve given you a generous two stars though, because every time I’ve had blocked ducts, the Epsom salts trick has worked a treat to unblock them. Unfortunately this product was useless to me in place of a breast pump, which is the main reason for me shelling out money for the Haakaa. Also why oh why would you not include a lid or flower with each pump? You need something to be able to seal it off, especially if you’re using it to catch letdown, the baby could easily kick it over while you’re finishing the feed. For the price of this, which you can get a cheap electric pump for less, it needs to include some sort of cap. All the other breast pumps do. It’s heartbreaking to spill even a drop of precious milk, and with no cap, that’s what we’re risking each time.

This product does not match the description. The images on the product page shows a smooth flange. The product I received has a ridge. I specifically ordered this because of the smooth flange. I lost my old one while traveling and I have another with the ridge. The ridge is extremely uncomfortable. The product description also says that you can return it. Now that I have purchased it, my Target app says I cannot return it. I have not opened the package. I’m very disappointed with the product and customer service.
I think as long as you are okay beforehand knowing that it isn't likely going to fulfill place of traditional pumps, then it's worth a try. I get a decent yield but only when baby is nursing on other side. Yes, on occasion my baby has kicked it off but I haven't had any problems with it falling off on own so far in two months I've used it. The suction base is nice for not tipping over like other reviews mentioned about original design. I don't use the flower stopper, I just pour it in bottle/bag right after. I suppose it could be handy if all your bottles were dirty and just wanted to toss in fridge. The stopper doesn't stay in place in diaper bag so I'd put it in a plastic storage bag for sanitary reasons. Pros: I love that the Haahka catches my letdown. The suction bottom is super convenient for setting it down while you’re busy nursing. It CAN be hands free if you can get it to stay on right. (Which brings me to cons)....Cons: I have a really hard time getting it to suction properly on my breast! Especially if I’m nursing Baby on the other side, I find it difficult to use; Baby might bump it, or I just can’t get the suction to hold, and then I’m fumbling with it while my daughter is trying to stay latched and eat. It’s just cumbersome. I also feel that the flower has to be pushed in just right to create an airtight seal.End of the day, I probably wouldn’t spend money on it again. Do yourself a favour and buy one! I bought one with my first son and have since bought one with larger capacity/stopper. It's my go to baby shower gift for mum's to be (I actually purchased this one for one of my best friends)! Brilliant for taking the edge off in those early weeks when you can become engorged very quickly. It's also saved me multiple times by helping to unclog blocked ducts and avoiding mastitis! Love, love, LOVE it!
After reading so many positive reviews I expected this pump to be a game-changer... and it wasn’t. I like that it’s one thing to wash instead of 4-5 like an electric pump, and it’s nice to not have to hook it up to anything, but I’ve found it pretty difficult to use. It’s not hands-free unless you manage to suction it on so tightly it hurts, and your baby stays totally still. Even if you do get a decent latch you’ll only get a lot of milk if you have a good letdown first. My baby often only drinks from one side each feed, so I use the Haakaa to relieve some fullness on the other side during feeds. It works ok for that specific scenario, although it’s frustrating when it falls off every minute and you find you’re paying more attention to the pump than to your baby. It works ok for that specific scenario, although it’s frustrating when it falls off every minute and you find you’re paying more attention to the pump than to your baby. I could imagine that if you wanted to build a stash of milk without having separate pumping sessions the Haakaa could be helpful (again assuming you can get a good latch). It could work as an easy-to-pack pump if you needed to be away from your baby, but you’d spend a lot longer pumping than you would with an electric pump.I don’t regret buying the Haakaa, but for most people I don’t think it’s necessary.
I love the haakaa!! For anyone who is having a problem with suction or is wondering why on earth it won’t stay on your breast, make sure you first flip the top open part downwards over the skinniest part of the product! THEN squeeze the bottom or base of the haakaa, press the opening to your breast, then flip the opening back open to the original position. That thing will be going absolutely nowhere!! If all you’re doing from the very beginning is squeezing the haakaa and placing it on your breast, it won’t have proper suction. Hope this helps!! Also, I recommend buying two so while you sanitize one, you can easily use the spare!
I waited a couple weeks to buy this because I wasn’t sure I would actually need/use it to justify the cost.I also bought the momeez breast milk catchers in addition to my breast pump. So, I can say that each and everything works in different situations. The Haakaa breast pump/suction is awesome!I used it in the car on a trip and was able to cut down on stops by putting milk in a bottle and giving it to baby on the way.You control the amount of suction. My only complaint is it being one size. The suction part is kind of on the large size and I am unfortunately not. Still it works though
