A god-tier roguelike
As a fan of Supergiant Games, I had this game on my list but was hesitant due to it being a roguelite (I don't typically play roguelites). When it won Game of the Year in 2020, I was happy and excited to see it, but still it remained on my backlog. Then I saw the trailer for Hades 2 and couldn't stop watching it. I loved everything about the trailer and figured hey, maybe now would be a great time to check Hades out! It was on sale and available nearby and I figured why not?And let me tell you... Play this game! If you're unsure, don't be, just play it. It's that good. I regret waiting so long to play it, it's amazing. The music is phenomenal, it fits the game perfectly and really helps set the mood (as well as just being an overall masterpiece, worthy of being listened to as a soundtrack for your everyday life). The voice acting is believable and filled with emotion. The characters are multi-dimensional, well written, and each with their own distinct personalities. The story is intriguing and unique. And the gameplay… wow!The gameplay is fun and fast-paced. You will die a lot in this game but it's how it works. Every run you get more powerful, so you're not starting from scratch each time, and the progression feels natural and fun. Each time you return to the hall there's new conversations to be had with each of the characters, gifts to give and relationships to build, points to spend to increase your combat capabilities or maybe buy a new room type, weapons to unlock / upgrade… The dungeons are dynamic and with a variety of different weapons to choose from, and different boons from the different gods, it keeps it from feeling repetitive or boring. You can sit down for a quick run or you can binge it, the replayability is high.Everything about this game is great and you can tell everyone who worked on it really put their heart into it. If you like roguelikes, get it!! If you're not sure, still get it! It has so many positives and is a ton of fun.... Show more

Epic Game!
I wasn't interested in Hades when it was first released. I had heard great things about it, but I don't normally like rouge games so I gave it a miss. When mighty ape had a sale, I thought I'd pick it up and I'm so glad I did. This game is fantastic! The artwork is great and suits the game well. The combat is fast and fun. The story is interesting and a fresh concept of geek mythology. I even went so far as to get the platinum, I got hooked on this game. Would 100% recommend it!... Show more

Excellent Game with Extra Value, Physically
The game itself is packed with addictive combat, rich art direction and an engrossing narrative, which all together make this a stellar game over all that's worthy of the accolades it has garnered over the past year.As for this physical edition specifically, it feels like it has enough value that warrants adding it to your collection. What I found to be a nice surprise for the PS4 version is that it offers a free upgrade to the PS5 version. As someone who does not yet own a PS5, it's nice to know that I can enjoy it now and still have access to that version's features when I eventually do get a PS5. This also includes a small "character compendium" which is more of a collection of portraits of the main characters and a code to download the digital version of the ... Fun fun fun!
Somehow this hack-and-slash rouge-like game has me loving every bit of this. Pro-tip: die early on, repeatedly. Just spend like 10 minutes repeatedly dying. After enough times, you can enable a permanent damage reduction which makes life a bit easier. You'll still struggle throughout the game trying to reach the end, but you'll have a blast the entire time. The narrative from SuperGiant games is always fun and the music is always great. All of my runs seem to create unique lines too!If you hate dying a lot, I'd still suggest giving this a try. It's worth it.... Show more

It's A Masterpiece. You Need To Play It.
Hades is my most-played game of the past year, and even 200 hours in I'm hungry for more. If you have any interest in roguelikes, innovative storytelling in games, or Greek mythology, you owe it to yourself to play this.Combat is the primary mechanic of Hades and it is rock-solid fun. Six different weapons are available with multiple variants of each to customize your playstyle. With dozens of upgrades obtainable from the Greek Gods as you play, no two runs will ever be the same. The music is some of the best I've ever heard in a game--the composer described it as "spooky Mediterranean prog rock" and even that is selling it a bit short. They've been reimagined in a way that feels both modern AND faithful to their myths, a balancing act that continues to astonish me. And they're hot. Everyone in this game is just really hot.If you're reading reviews of this game online you probably already own it, but if you're on the fence, I promise this is the best video game you can possibly buy for $25. Enjoy.... Show more

Masterpiece
By far one of my favorite games of all time. I am not particularly into roguelikes or bullet hell type games, this game is a mix of both but in a way that works beautifully. The gameplay is fantastic and gives you plenty of options in build diversity, the soundtrack is immersive and mesmerizing, when getting ready for another run, sometimes I am caught off guard by Orpheus and find myself sometimes just sitting next to him and hearing him sing. The story however is where this game takes the cake, it is so immersive, so many interactions between characters and relationship specific dialogues, and every time you die there's always something new waiting for you in the starting area.I've failed probably 70 runs by now (the final boss always gets me) and completed ... This game is fairly difficult but don't let these numbers fool you, as I mentioned before I am not really all that great at roguelikes and bullet hell games. Most people probably will not run into this kind of difficulty getting the game cleared.... Show more

One Heck of a Good Game
A quick preface that this is more a quick review on the game, than the physical product itself. I had bought Hades digitally at its launch date on the Nintendo Switch, this purchase was solely to own a physical copy. Why do such a thing? Why, because the game is phenomenal! A truly engaging rogue-lite. With mountains of dialogue for every character (to the point I never saw repeats in 30 hours) and an intriguing plot line there for you after every exciting run, there’s a lot to love here. The weapon diversity, the skill combinations, the flexible challenge levels, everything clicks together to make what I’m not shocked many claimed as their favorite game of the year in 2020.As price does often come into play for gaming purchases, I’d sooner recommend getting the ... However, if you’re one for physical products, the goodies in this package are neat. And also, owning a Supergiant Games title in official capacity straight from a console publisher is just neat.... One of the Best Examples of a Video Game
One of the best examples of a video game I can think of; solid in every aspect.I'm not a big fan of rougelike games, in which you start at the beginning of the game upon each subsequent attempt, however Hades counterbalances what could be a frustrating feature by "rewarding" your frequent deaths in small ways. Each attempt will net you rewards that you can spend on permanent buffs, and upon return to the hub you will be greeted by fresh and engaging conversations with several NPCs.Gameplay is tight and easy to pick up. Learning enemy patterns will be the biggest hurdle, but a clearable one. There are several weapons, all well balanced, that ensure there will be a playstyle that meshes with how you want to approach combat. An average run will last between 20-40 ... An average run will last between 20-40 minutes, so it's great to hop in and out relatively fast.Above all of this, however, is the story which is what truly kept me coming back for more. I was always excited to speak to the NPCs, who I have yet to hear any repeated dialog from. They even comment on your last run, remarking how embarrassing it must be to have been felled by a simple goon, or how impressive it is you defeated that boss! The world of Hades feels alive, and the game paces itself well. It's relatively simple to learn, and great for both short and long play sessions.... Show more

One of the best Rouguelike games ever.
This game is awesome! Can be a little intimidating to newcomers at first, but the developers added a god mode for those having trouble with the game, and it doesn't punish you at all cus they know some people want to experience the story.Every run is a different layout, different group of enemies in each room, different powerups or rewards or boons (special abilities bestowed upon you by the gods of Olympus), and different character encounter opportunities. Took me 12 runs before I discovered Eurydice was someone I could speak to, so plenty of surprises.Upon death you lose everything you collected and go back to the beginning, except for Darkness, which can be used to power up your stats permanently.Different weapons to unlock as well. Spicy rogue like from heck
Let cry the hounds of hell!In this saucy little number you play as Hades, son of the God of the Underworld. Go through multiple areas and levels and fight regular bad guys but also bosses. The game changes a little bit every time you play through. Find new items to help out on the journey and some of the bosses even change too after beating them.If you want a game you can just go through and beat like Zelda or something this is not that game, the setting is that if you die you go back to the beginning of the game and then upgrade yourself a little bit and then try to do it again until you get a little further each time.It is not the easiest game either but it is highly rated and has rock solid action for those seeking a challenge....
