It has proved safe for our 14 month old grandchild, who enjoys making his own "music". The tone is a gentle tinkle and not irritating to adult ears.

Mallet is not suitable for younger babies, but can be easily replaced by other objects to produce decent sound.Leaflet with 4 songs is useful, "jingle bells" is especially easy to play and fun to listen.Xylophone can produce decent sound, but need to hit the bars at precise points.Better than most other xylophones we've seen.
Sturdy, quality item with a beautiful design. It was a gift and very well received. The toddler started to play it straight away!
