Bought this drive from CCL Computers as a replacement for my noisy old 40gb Toshiba drive, it's a huge improvement! Massive improvement in storage capacity, fast and almost completely silent, all this for £45 with fast and free delivery. I downloaded the free version of Macrium Reflect, cloned the old drive swapped them and bingo! Everything worked perfectly first time, I can now boot in less than a minute compared with over three minutes that my old drive used to take. A great hard drive for the money and I'll never regret this purchase. :)

It is working flawlessly. My laptop was recently out of warranty when the original drive failed. Since everything else was working fine, replacing the hard drive made economic sense. Dell service in finding and purchasing the replacement was outstanding.

I put the ST1000LM048 into an Orico XHDD enclosure with a USB 3.1 type C interface and that came with a corresponding cable and plugged the USB 3.0 type A connector into an HP laptop running Windows 10 64 bit Home. Next, I initialized the drive in Disk Manager. The drive was ready. Although the RPMs are only 5400, the 128 MB cache and the USB type 3.1 interface make transfer rates seem fast. My wife is using this external drive for backups and off-line storage and is very happy that her important files are reliably safe. If she runs out of space on the drive, she can just swap another drive into the enclosure.

You always have to be dubious about buy second hand tech, example how long its been running, how much data is written or read, whats the life cycle of the drive. The S.M.A.R.T shows this information and suprisingly it came out quite good. reliable spindle disk for a cheap price. Works well with linux and lvm.
