Hario’s V60 copper coffee dripper is a design classic. The V60 coffee drippers are used by barista champions around the world. And it only takes 2-3 minutes to brew the most flavoursome cup of coffee. The V60 refers to the 60 degree V-shaped angle at the base of the dripper, scientifically calculated by the researchers at Hario to be the angle for perfect water flow and coffee extraction. The copper not only looks beautiful, but its high thermal conductivity means it heats quickly and then transfers the heat back to the coffee grounds. This gets the perfect extraction, to make the perfect coffee. What do I use it with? The V60 copper coffee dripper can be used with a small kettle or heat resistant jug. Slowly pour hot water onto the coffee grounds in circular-motion ensuring that the water does not touch the filter papers. So tell me more about Hario Hario was founded in Japan in 1921 as a manufacturer of heat-resistant glass, specialising in laboratory equipment. After World War II, Hario ventured out of the laboratory and pharmaceutical industries and began manufacturing household items – a coffee siphon was their first product suitable for home use. Baratza 270 and Flair espresso maker

The crew at AB were very helpful on the website chat, My order was packed and on the road the same day. The two items were well packed and protected from damage. The Baratza was easy to setup and operate even for a non geek like me. It took me 3 or 4 efforts to dial in the grind size for the Flair and now I have the timer dialed in as well so no wastage. The Baratza is a tad noisy but is so quick it isn't a problem. The Flair makes amazing coffee, light years ahead of the Aeopress I was using before. The beans I am using (Dimattina) went from ok to outstanding.I am one very happy camper. Thanks Alternative brewing.

Definitely a wonderfully compact grinder. It is as good as most people have said on reviews. I was worried about it being too noisy but it is quieter than my old Cunill and does the grind in 1/4 of the time. The coffee flavours are much more prominent than my old grinder. It really is fluffy! My only complaint is that it does spray a SMALL amount of grind outside the portafilter. So it is a bit messy. Just like my old grinder.

Easy to use and perfect for single dosing

This is my first and only electric grinder. After researching several grinders in my price range I chose the Sette 270. It was simple to setup and operate. I use two timers for single and double shots. During the first two months I had to regularly increase the fineness of the grinder until the burrs were worn in. I am yet to use the stepless adjustment since the stepped adjustment seems to be giving enough control over the grind size. The portafilter holder works well but does catch some of the grind which then ends up on the bench. The silicone tray catches most of the spill but there is always some coffee around the grinder. The grinder is really fast, albeit noisy, and can easily grind 1.5-2 g of coffee a second. I highly recommend it for single dosing.

For the price, the Sette can't be beat
6 April 2018

Coming from a Sunbeam EM0480, the Sette 270 completely blows the old grinder away. The grind is consistent and fluffy with almost zero retention and essentially no mess. The 30 macro adjustments and step-less micro adjustments make it easy to dial things in exactly how you want them. The timed grinding is accurate to within +/- 0.3g from my experience, which is more than tolerable for pulling consistent shots on my Rancilio Silvia. While some say the grinder is noisy personally, I don't think it's that bad especially given the speed of the grinder and it's not enough to wake my 2yr old daughter in the morning in a nearby room.Cleaning and burr removal is straightforward and simple and the minimal footprint makes it easy to locate the grinder somewhere suitable ... MoreComing from a Sunbeam EM0480, the Sette 270 completely blows the old grinder away. Well I weigh my shots anyway so it's little benefit having the inbuilt scale for the price difference.I'd highly recommended this for anybody making espresso at home, for pour over you might want to pick up the other burrs they sell for this purpose.

Good espresso machine
5 January 2021

Just got my new Sette 270 dialled for espresso in this morning. At first it wouldn't grind fine enough. I installed one of the supplied shims, quite an easy job, and that took it to a good place. It's a bit noisier than I expected, but that's easily dealt with. It's easy to use and is quick and clean. Seems to be very little retention of grounds. Very easy to clean, which is important. Only used for espresso grinding so far. Recommended.

3 stars as this review was requested way too early and grinders need to wear in, especially this one which doesn't require the included shims at first, but soon will. Apart from that, grinder better quality than I expected - had a Baratza Preciso for 5 years that this arguably replaces, 6000 shots, was amazing but didn't feel quality or look great in a nice kitchen. This is by no means commercial feeling but is far more attractive than the ugly overpriced 'semi-commercial' grinders. Plus Baratza make things so easy and cheap to fix yourself instead of sending the grinder away. The Preciso cost be $10 of repairs in 5 years and still doesn't miss a beat.Grind by time - I'm getting about ±0.5g currently but have only put a kg through it so far so hopefully that will ... More3 stars as this review was requested way too early and grinders need to wear in, especially this one which doesn't require the included shims at first, but soon will. Like any grinder it's hard to creep up by 0.1 or 0.2g as the motor can spin that short. No issues with overspray as many find, (58mm basket), but I think I would going above 18g.

Great for espresso! Not for manual brewing techniques....
4 April 2019

The Sette 270 is a revolution in it's market. It excels in many areas and there is no better option for espresso grinder for the same price. I could go on with the list of attributes: great design, fast grinder, no/minimum coffee leftover, easy to use for beginners in espresso. That being said, if you want to brew Hario V60 or Chemex you better buy a Baratza Encore or a Baratza Virtuoso. They are not expensive but provide a great result for manual brewing. The problem with the Sette 270 is that it's design generates a huge amount of fines, independently of whether you are grinding fine or coarse. Thus you will hardly get to extract your brew in the required time (less than 3 minutes). It literally does not make a difference if you grind your beans at the mark of 25 ... MoreThe Sette 270 is a revolution in it's market. It literally does not make a difference if you grind your beans at the mark of 25 (coarse) or 12 (medium fine). You will roughly get the same coffee, which will not be a bad cup but will likely have that bitter aftertaste that results from the fines. I find it misleading that the description of the product in this site mentions "Chemex to Espresso" range. Even the manufacturer has posted articles in its site confirming that this Grinder is not ideal for manual brewing. Alternativebrewing team please change the description of this product.

12 March 2021

I've had the 270 for about a week and so far it's been everything I expected/needed. The consistency is a godsend after my old Baratza Precisio. The 270 is fast, clean and repeatable. Looks cool too. Yes it's noisy. But it'll do a fine grind (for Rancilio Silvia) of 14g in 6.5 seconds. So the noise doesn't last long.If you're doing espresso then don't bother with the lesser models. Spend the money once and go with the 270. You'll be glad you did.

It won't go the distance

I've had this machine since they first came out. Not sure if there was something wrong with it, but it would kick on so hard, the group handle would move and then stop as the scales in it wouldn't like it. It posted errors each month which required a restart, and after the first year and a bit completely ground to a stop.So sent it away had all the plastic gears inside changed (YUP PLASTIC). When it came back it seemed a little better (didn't kick on so hard), but its so loud, couldn't talk while grinding, and this week it stopped again. I recon its the gears worn out again. Small life expectancy
25 June 2020

This grinder on initial use is impressive for an entry level grinder. I loved it. But at the 13 month mark it started making an industrial level noise and completely stopped grinding beans. I contacted Baratza and they kindly took it and fixed it for me. Now after 15 months it has done it again. Same noise and not grinding or allowing beans to pass through. I bought it for $600 and it has broken twice in less than three years. We grind approx 3 times a day in our house so the use doesn’t warrant the constant break down. The manual says it should have close to a 20 year life span. But unfortunately it does not. Very disappointing. This is obviously no reflection on alternative brewing, they are amazing. But Baratza have really dropped the ball on this one.
