Ceramic Coffee Dripper Hario V60-02 is a cone-style filter with a vortex radial drain pattern and an open end. The cone shaped paper filters help extend water and coffee contact time, because the water flows towards the centre. You can prepare two cups of coffee at once. This manual brewing method gives you the complete control over brewing time and temperature, so your coffee is brewed just the way you like it. A large hole at the bottom of the cone allows coffee to flow freely, so you can customize flavour and strength simply by adjusting the speed at which you pour hot water (pour rather quickly for lighter coffee or slowly for a darker brew). Use of ceramic Coffee Dripper "Hario V60-02". To prepare 320 ml of coffee: 1. Pre-heat both paper and ceramic filters with hot water.2. Pour out water. This will help minimize that paper-like aftertaste. 3. Add freshly ground coffee (20 g) into the paper filter (generally, a medium-fine grind should be used).4. Pre-infuse the grounds with 50 ml of water — the entire surface should be wet. Wait for around 10 seconds.5. Start by pouring the rest of water into the centre and then continue in a circular motion going upwards, follow the conical shape. This should be a slow pour. 6. After pouring the remaining water, wait until there is no water on the coffee surface and enjoy well prepared coffee.

Comandante C40 MK4 Hand Grinder

Yes, this grinder is pricey. I wanted one as I realized my cheaper hand grinder was grinding unevenly when I tried to figure out the size of the grind. My pour over coffee tastes so much better now with the Comandante C40 MK4. The silicon grip is very helpful as I have smaller hands. It takes me longer to grind the same amount of coffee, which I don't mind, it's a reflection of how well the Comandante C40 MK4 performs. I also like that many coffee recipes give the recommended Comandante C40 grind setting. The Comandante C40 MK4 is an amazing grinder and well worth the investment.

I have tons of brewing gear, but I primarily make espresso and v60. This dripper here has just become my main dripper! Not only am I really happy that Hario finally makes a black ceramic dripper (to match pretty much all my gear) but it works really well!! The slower drawdown lets me add at least 30-45 seconds from a recipe that calls for 3 minutes total. That translates to about 3 clicks coarser on my Commandante to get the same time. The cups it produces are really juicy, and have great sweetness and clarity. I would absolutely recommend this brewer to anyone who is serious about v60 and pourover in general.

Niche but not for me
13 August 2024

I wanted to experience the V60 technique, so I bought one to try it out but did not realize how unique the design was. My usual brand of non-bleached, cruelty free (no animal glue etc) filter paper did not really fit it and because of the wide hole in the bottom, I kept breaking the filter papers. I eventually just gave it away to someone as it just wasn't working out. Part my ignorance surely but I just don't dig the design. The cups I got from it were inconsistent. Some good and some not so great. It is pretty though.

The price point is a little bit higher than I feel it ought to be. But the product delivers.I chose this over other grinders Because I trust that the German steel burrs will last longer than competition.I upgraded from a manual grinder that cost about half as much. I appreciate the form and function. And I have definitely noticed an improvement pourover taste. I am experiencing much fewer fines.

The Classic

Great shipping out to Perth, it arrived a day earlier than it said and I’m ok with that! The V60 ceramic is nice, I had a clear plastic one and wanted to try out ceramic for comparison and also because it cleans a little better. No coffee stain that was frequent on the plastic one. I was thinking that would have an effect on coffee quality and so far I think that is true— I much prefer coffee from the ceramic. The kit is a great set up and does come with a plastic lid that isn’t shown in the stock pictures or the description. Would recommend this for anyone looking to get into pour over coffee.

I preferred the V60. Later Compared the Plastic 02 to the Smaller Plastic 01 size brewers and found I generally preferred the smaller 01 size brewer again due to more brightness and linger usually. Perhaps the smaller 01 size is just better suited to my smaller 12g dose. However, going to Ceramic V60 I thought I lost a little bit of the brightness and acidity I enjoyed in the Plastic V60s. Maybe it's more balanced this way, still good. Though sometimes I still get good brightness / acidity, it's not that it's lacking totally, maybe it's down to preheating or pouring / brew errors. One thing I prefer about the plastic: I don't bother preheating the plastic V60s, but I do pre wet / rinse the filters and the filter seems to stick / fit better than on the ceramic ones. But I'm a little skeptical about the healthiness of brewing in plastic which is why I want to use the Ceramic ones more often.Ceramic may require a pre-heating. I leave it on-top of my kettle but then I rinse the filter with warm tap water which probably loses some heat... Sometimes I'll rinse the filter then put it on the kettle, but then I'm getting condensation / steaming the filter and potentially getting some steamed filter paper water in my kettle.... so workflow is more awkward. If I'm not using fancy remineralized water or if I have more than enough water for the pourovers I'm doing then I'd just use the kettle water for preheating which is still a bit awkward I prefer running it under the tap rather than risking spilling / burning :pTalking to other pour-over people, for some reason they seem to prefer plastic, then ceramic and glass being the least fav. Although people do seem to love the Switch which comes with a glass V60.I like the green colour, the ribs on the inside and the Made in Japan stand out more than on the white.

V60 Ceramic Coffee Dripper 02 - Juniper
17 July 2024

I've used the V60 Hario dripper for quite some time and purchased this one as a gift. I had considered this color for myself originally, but ultimately went with white to stay on the safe side. When it arrived, the Juniper color is gorgeous, and I now want it for myself. It is a unique, sort of oiled look, so dark green that it's almost black. It's the perfect combination of form + function and quite honestly looks like a piece of art.

You Get What You Pay For

After researching grinder options for more time than I would like to admit, I am extremely happy with the MK4.Feel of the C40:My previous hand grinder was my first hand grinder purchase 6 years ago, the Hario Skerton Pro. In my smaller than average hands, the Skerton Pro was not exactly "comfortable" when grinding since that grinder is about as wide as you can get. This was a concern for me when learning that the C40 had a wider body than other grinder options in this category. However, once in my hand, I found that C40 was actually very comfortable. Also, I would add that the rubber band that is included with the grinder can help with the grip when grinding smaller beans at a finer grind setting. This was a concern for me when learning that the C40 had a wider body than other grinder options in this category. However, once in my hand, I found that C40 was actually very comfortable. Also, I would add that the rubber band that is included with the grinder can help with the grip when grinding smaller beans at a finer grind setting. I own a wood version of the C40, but the non-wood options may provide more grip based on feedback that I ran across. You can feel the quality of the grinder with its solid build and parts. I appreciate that it is simple to disassemble and clean and personally find the plastic components that some do not appreciate for a grinder of this price is not a concern for me. I appreciate that the design choice helps reduce weight while not impacting the longevity.Grinding Experience with Different Coffee Beans:I also understand that the C40 is not the fastest hand grinder compared to other options available in the market now, but I find that the C40 “cuts” through the beans when grinding vs using more power to grind. When paired with the larger wooden knob on the handle, I find the overall effort expended to crank a C40 to be less taxing than I was used to. For example, when grinding larger size Arabica beans (ex. Illy Classic Medium roast) at 20 clicks, it was not difficult task at all… it like cutting through butter with little resistance on the turns. When grinding light roasted, smaller beans (like Ethopian Chelbesa), it does take more torque, but not enough that my heart rate jumped/I dread the thought of grinding a 2nd batch of 30g.Overall, the grinds produced are incredibly consistent and none of my V60s have stalled since switching to the C40 and the flavors you are able to access with this grinder are the best so far in a 10 yr journey with coffee.Hack to Adjust the Grind Setting:After I watched the C40 cleaning video on the Comandante website and saw how you can hold the grind adjustment dial while turning the handle. 1 rotation of the handle equals 12 clicks. Now, I find it simple to go from 0-24 clicks in no time/no tedious click counting required. I simply line the handle to the Comandante logo on the side of the grinder to benchmark one rotation. I start a new bag of coffee for a James Hoffman style V60 pour over method at 25 clicks and adjust 1-2 clicks finer until to find the best result.C40 Community:One last benefit of buying a Comandante is the community available. I enjoy being able to easily find recipes based on C40 clicks to start dialing in recipes on pour overs.Summary:Overall, I was hesitant paying a significant premium vs other high-quality grinder available. The C40, in my opinion, falls into the "you get what you pay for" category and I have zero regrets after a month of daily grinding.
