I truly love that Jim Kay has teamed up with JK in this all new "sit down and go crazy all over again" illustrated and so different visual of the BEST series of books in the past and still very much present!!!! We absolutely love this new take of the books we couldn't put down, bindings falling apart because once one was finished reading the other never let it fall, having to buy 2 of each because one book could no longer stand the passing forward to the next reader in line!!!!!! They were literally falling apart but we kept on buying reading and talking for hours about what would happen next!!! Great quality and amazing art! Definitely going to buy the rest when they come out! Perfect for the Harry Potter fan. Only reason I am removing a star is that it came damaged, I had to tape over a rip in the cover.

These illustrated hard bound books are very high quality and the illustrations and design details on every page are stunning. These are not normal reading books where you can lay in bed and read. They are big and heavy, more like a coffee table book. My daughter loves to follow along in this version while we read to her from the normal paperback version in bed at night. It's been a big hit in our house. The text is the same as the normal paperback version of the novels.
This is an incredibly well written and phenomenally illustrated large hardcover book that will last a lifetime. While it is certainly not the book to tote around various places for easy reading due to the size, weight, and cost. It is a PERFECTLY well done book for enjoying directly in front of you. The many details and appointments were clearly very well thought out. Look at the photos below to get a peek at some of the detail and beautiful art. Of course the story is amazing, but I'll only review the physical quality of this addition: binding is great, with a sewn (not glued) binding, which is important and helps make sure the book stays open easily and there is no gutter loss (loss of readable area closer to the middle of the book). The illustrations and general artwork (including various fonts) are as pleasing to the eye here as they have been in the previous three installments, and the illustrations are wonderful. This illustrated version of HP will own a place of pride on my bookshelfs. Highly recommend.
I plan on giving this book to my oldest son, Bryan for christmas. I already have the 1st three illustrated Harry Potter books for him. He's grown up with the Harry Potter since the story began back in 1997. He was around 8 years of age. He loved reading Fantasy based stories. I started him off on Piers Anthony's Xanth stories. He and his younger brothers enjoyed the Harry Potter series. Bryan and I even took sides on whether or not Severus Snape was truly a bad guy or a good guy. I chose that he was a good guy. Bryan didn't think so. The Harry Potter stories brought laughter, thrills and enjoyment to our family times together.
I have never read the Harry Potter series (I'm 36) so my wife happened to buy the first illustrated one. I got the others, and now the fourth one on pre-order. I am impressed with this one as I am with the others. This was also my first online order with BAM and they did not disappoint on the shipping. I was a little worried about the shipping conditions, but BAM wrapped the book in big bubble wrap and taped it down well. Book arrived on time and in pristine condition. I suppose I will stick with BAM for a few more years haha. I haven't read the book yet and there are plenty of reviews of the story and it's writing so I will just say that the illustrations are fantastic. They definitely chose the right artist for doing this type of series. Not as many illustrations as I would've liked to see. Many many many pages in a row with no pictures, which was very disappointing. Even small illustrations would've made a world of a difference. The illustrations that were done though were wonderful. We all know the story is perfect. So we buy these books for the illustrations and disappointed in how many pages did not contain them. Still collectors should buy.
I just picked up this book yesterday to add to the boxed set of books 1-3 that is being shipped directly to me. Guys- the pictures are BEAUTIFUL and the book itself is heavy and feels important (remember the old school encyclopedia britannica books? it feels like that!). My 5 year old was immediately drawn to the pages and wanted to start it right away. Yes, my book also had a 20% off sticker on the front. I was able to very easily peel it off without any damage to the book. If you buy in store, double check the website price first - web price was 12 cheaper than in-store, but I was able to get a price match to their online price.
