Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [Book]
Harry has yet again spent the summer holidays at the Dursleys'. He has had plenty to think about, though - from the death of his beloved godfather Sirius Black, to the terrifying chase through the Ministry of Magic by the Death Eaters, to the fierce duel he witnessed between Professor Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort. It is the middle of the summer, but there is an unseasonal mist pressing against the windowpanes. Harry is waiting nervously for a visit from Professor Dumbledore himself. He can't quite believe that Professor Dumbledore will actually appear at the Dursleys' of all places.

I read these books as they came out as a kid. I reread them as an adult, and they still hold up. Book Six explores darker themes than previous books as Harry and crew come of age during a war. Harry enters his sixth year with the world shaken by the resurgence of Voldemort. He continues to figure out his role in fighting against the dark lord while also handling the ups and downs of being a teenager. The pace is past and the world is intriguing. If you are coming to this series for the first time, especially if you are introducing this series to a young person, I recommend reading up on JK Rowling’s transphobia and issues with the series in terms of stereotypes, lack of diversity, and the handling of minority groups with the wizarding world and consider how these ... MoreI read these books as they came out as a kid. J.K. Rowling's sixth effort proves that her fertile imagination and capacity to amaze readers have only picked up steam. I refuse to give many spoilers, but this is certainly the darkest book yet, with the death of one of the main characters strengthening Harry's resolve to a hitherto-unseen-point. Harry now determines to head towards his final confrontation with Voldemort of his own free will and because of Voldemort's evil deeds, not because he thinks the prophecy of the last book demands it.The Death Eaters' doings have spilled over into the Muggle world, and there is panic reminiscent of 9-11 in both the Wizard and Muggle realms. Cornelius Fudge's successor as Minister of Magic wants Harry to pretend to work for the Ministry as a sort of mascot, since wizards are hopefully calling him the "Chosen One." But Harry holds to his principles, since both he and Dumbledore disapprove of the Ministry's recent showy actions in fighting Voldemort and his forces. He coldly, and bravely, informs the new Minister that he is Dumbledore's man, through and through. This one instance highlights Harry's increasingly uncompromising character, for he is being forced to become a strong leader, even if that involves unpopular decisions.Yet not all is dark and falling apart. In the midst of a world spiraling ever deeper into death and fear, romance blooms in some not-unexpected (and surprising) places. Love is perhaps Rowling's main theme throughout the series, and it is shown triumphant in even difficult times. Harry is reminded that it is his capacity to love that gives him an advantage over He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and this advantage will clearly be crucial in the last, almost certainly harrowing, book.

The book concludes with the wizarding world teetering on the brink of war as Death Eaters unleash chaos at Hogwarts, marking a turning point in the series toward the ultimate showdown between Harry and the forces of darkness. Meanwhile, the dynamics at Hogwarts are shaped by burgeoning romances, notably Harry's growing affection for Ginny Weasley and the challenges faced by Ron and Hermione.

The crown jewel of the Harry Potter series, "Half-Blood Prince" is one of the finest novels I've read in my lifetime. Having allowed us to watch Harry evolve and mature for so many years, Rowling finally lifts the veil, so to speak, humanizing the larger than life characters of not just Dumbledore and Snape, but significantly and achingly, Tom Riddle. This is love letter to one of the hardest things we all experience: the moment that your idols become your peers, your parents become your friends, and your superiors your equals, when you realize we're all in this together and that it is nobody's job to shelter you, and when, finally, you realize that people are absolutely human.Rowling's affection for her characters and her sympathy for even the most vile of her ... MoreThe crown jewel of the Harry Potter series, "Half-Blood Prince" is one of the finest novels I've read in my lifetime. This is love letter to one of the hardest things we all experience: the moment that your idols become your peers, your parents become your friends, and your superiors your equals, when you realize we're all in this together and that it is nobody's job to shelter you, and when, finally, you realize that people are absolutely human.Rowling's affection for her characters and her sympathy for even the most vile of her creations (the Malfoys and Voldemort himself) are at the heart of Harry Potter's lasting beauty and insight. Here, she explores her three most fascinating creations, and one wishes the story would never end. But it does, and when it does, Harry is faced with the same challenge that Rowling subjects her readers to: how much faith do you really have in what you've been told, and do you believe, at the end of the day, that good really does win out?A timeles classic. One of my favorites, ever.
I love these harry Potter series and this book was actually my turning point in reading not that I did not read before that but I was attracted to series and trilogy after reading this I’m excited to give this set to our neighbor and classmates for them to enjoy and return. I have been wanting to read the whole series for a while and I am very pleased with the quality of this paperback set for the price. I expected mass market paperback quality considering it was priced apt.Always one of my favourite fantasy fictions. The box set was finely packed and the best gift I could give myself to survive this lockdown. No complaints, go ahead and indulge yourself into the best of worlds reading these books for knowledge, entertainment , vocabulary.
2007: Absolutely great book. The end left my absolutely sopping wet with tears, so you know it's good. The final book still has not come out, so I'm just dying to know what will happen. This book was seriously great. Horcruxes were a great idea.2018: So upsetting! I had to keep passing the book to my husband to read aloud to our son when I no longer could because I was so choked up. Great book, though I wish Dumbledore and Harry had more time for adventures. They finally go out together and then bam--every awful thing happens and the book ends. It feels a bit front-heavy.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a great book, and perhaps the most solid in the latter half of the original series (both Goblet and Order being a bit too long). The mysteries at hand are intriguing and are interesting to theorize about while reading: the identity of the "Half-Blood Prince", what was Draco ordered to do and how is Snape helping him, and the long-awaited answers about Voldemort's past. But we also have budding romance and heartbreak, a great dose of humor and some memorable characters that are either introduced or given a moment to shine. The Children's Edition paperback I got shows its age, being previously used, and it is advisable to be careful with its spine, but it still looks beautiful, and perhaps even more dignified with its yellowed ... MoreHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a great book, and perhaps the most solid in the latter half of the original series (both Goblet and Order being a bit too long). I am no stranger to the Harry Potter series, but thought that I would complete my collection with one of the original books. My book arrived around one week before it was due but unfortunately had one or two loose/missing pages. I made this know to the Pete and Claire and they very kindly sent me another copy that I am pleased to report is perfect. They invited me to keep the damaged copy- which I consider a bonus! Book-wise, it is a very powerful and compelling novel- my favourite in the series in fact. The plot is strong and the characters are fantastic. On the whole, a brilliant well, written book.
I decided to read the series over again after not touching it since I was about 14 or so. I am now 23 and something that makes these books very special to me is that I feel just as intrigued and drawn into the story even almost ten years later. Of course, as a child, magic and the like is fascinating and makes flying through these books a piece of cake. As an adult, it is still just as easy to find myself reading many chapters at a time simply because it is so difficult putting the book down. I prefer to read Harry Potter before bed; it is just such a good read before sleep. That can come back to bite me, though, when the story is TOO good to actually hit the hay... This series will always be so special to me. The Half Blood Prince is so fun in particular because ... MoreI decided to read the series over again after not touching it since I was about 14 or so. This series will always be so special to me. The Half Blood Prince is so fun in particular because it's awesome to witness the change in attitude and development as the characters get older and experience more danger. Despite all of the dark magic and wizards, there's still room for teenage drama, though, amiright?.I find myself actually laughing out loud at what Ron says or suppressing tears at the more emotional parts or giggling like a schoolgirl when Ginny and Harry first express their feelings for each other.. Anyone who is a Potterhead just gets it.

NOW I'm seeing a return request on my order WHICH I did not want I want to yes return 2 books and have other two books sent to Texas since I will not be making yet another trip to deliver them to her since the wrong books were mailed to me. WHAT in the world is the disfunction in your system that you cannot process a return of the 2 ONLY 2 softcover books and then mail out the correct hardcover books to tx for my granddaughter to have the full set? NOW I'm being told to wait another 48 hrs cause apparently I cannot direct call the people that can fix this situation cause the number I do call are unable to function and perform a simple return and exchange mail out... I WOULD LIKE someone who know what's up to call me so that I can get the correct books I purchased and then also return these books whether you do it by mail or by me walking into a Walmart... It's not a difficult request to physically talk to a human and make sure all is fixed and I get what I paid for ... Offering me a $10 coupon for my troubles does NOT fix my problem. SOMEONE with know-how please contact me. Thank you. (I'm sure you have access to my acct and phone number or you can email me and tell me a number to call).
