Hasselblad XCD 45mm Compact f/4 Lens
The Hasselblad XCD 45P lens has been designed with discreet portability in mind and thanks to evolved designs, both the autofocus motor and leaf shutter have been reduced in audible noise. Photographers will find that the new XCD 45P leaf shutter is less audible than many focal plane mechanical shutters. The Hasselblad XCD lenses are some of the finest optics available on the market today. These lenses, which are all designed in Sweden, have all gone through a stringent development, testing and production process to ensure they satisfy the demands of high end mirrorless digital capture, and high resolution sensors. The XCD 4/45P is the world’s lightest digital medium format autofocus lens on the market today, weighing 320g (0.7 lbs). Its compact, lightweight build combined with world class optics makes it the perfect lens for travel, exploration, and documentary. As the most lightweight member of the X System lens range, its size perfectly complements the compact X1D II body. Like the other XCD Lenses, the XCD 45P has an integral central shutter offering a wide range of shutter speeds and full flash synchronisation up to 1/2000s.

I have only recently moved into the Hasselblad medium format world - having bought the X1Dii camera and this lens. I bought this lens because it is a good all purpose focal length and at $1100 it was the cheapest available for the Hasselblad X system. The reviews online speak to the amazing optical qualities of the lens, and I have not been disappointed - the images are beautiful, sharp and with superb color rendition even when wide open.Obviously the Hasselblad system is expensive, but the equipment is superbly made and produces images that are simply outstanding. I'm already saving up for my next lens which will be the 21mm f 4 - just ideal for my architectural work!

I have used the Hasselblad XID 50c II since the end of the September 2019. My first two lenses were the XCD 45 and 90. I expanded to included the 21 and 135 (with 1.7 extender) in early January. I initially hesitated to jump on this lens, since I had other earlier 45 lens. What I liked about the reviews was the quiet shutter. After waiting for several months, I have used this lens to take street, architectural, and landscape photographs of Philadelphia. I especially like the quiet shutter. Sometimes, it's so quiet I have to check I took a photo. I also like the lighter weight, as it makes it easier to take a quick photo using one hand, focusing using LiveView. There are times that I would like the ability to have the wider aperture, I still have the original lens. ... MoreI have used the Hasselblad XID 50c II since the end of the September 2019. I have taken some nearly identical photographs out my window and in my house to test the comparison of image quality. There appears to be no image quality differences.

Originally purchased a CRV II 50C with a 907X to give my legacy 500CM & ELM a few extra years of use. Then I realized the addition of the affordable XCD 45mm f/4 lens would make a lightweight 50 MP travel camera in a package less than 5 long. This is a huge benefit when touring countries famous for thieves and pickpockets. The sharpness and contrast of this lens is equivalent to other XCD lenses and yields superb results with Hasselblad's Natural Color Management.

I bought this as my only lens for the 907X which I bought primarily to use on my cherished V system camera. This is a bargain compared to the other X series lenses, and fits right in where my V lens focal lengths end. It also pairs up into a delightful little mini-V combo with a very useable 35mm equivalent for walk around street and travel photography. It has its foibles, as others have said, such as the slow and whirring AF; hunting back and forth for every single shot not matter how much contrast there is in the scene. But the IQ is incredible, right across the frame. It's light weight and small size balance perfectly on the 907x allowing me to palm it at waist height and get sharp shots at 1/20th second. Great lens, doubly so considering it's relative bargain ... MoreI bought this as my only lens for the 907X which I bought primarily to use on my cherished V system camera. Great lens, doubly so considering it's relative bargain cost. No lens hood is supplied or offered to I bought a B&W aluminium hood and it finishes off the outfit nicely, as well as serving very well as insulation against knocks or bumps from use.I also now LOVE B&H for getting this lens and extras to me in Qatar in under a week for a mere $35
It has been a week now since I received my 45P lens. Based on all the comments and YouTube accolades, I was hoping this lens would be great. It is great. It is a fantastic super-light super-crisp Hasselblad lens. I use this lens with my X1D 50c Mark II and it performs at the very highest levels of expectations. I would definitely recommend this lens for your Hasselblad X kit.
This is the best sized lens for X cameras and provides a very useful focal length. The optics hold up to the 100MP sensor. Good wide open. Size is perfect - really an all day lens. Only thing keeping it from being a 5-star performer is....you guessed it... Hasselblad's clunky last-generation autofocus. Slow, hunts, but very accurate when it locks on. This is still a must-have for a X-user outside of the studio.
This lens is so small yet so sharp and versatile. I am extremely satisfied with this lens. I never imagined that my Carl Zeiss lenses for my 500 C/M could be topped but I was wrong. Frankly, I have nothing bad to say about this lens. The portrait sample was taken using a 907X with a CFV II 50C as were the two doggie images. The landscape image was taken using a X2D 100C. All the images were taken hand-held. What an ideal lens to use for street photography and so much more.
There is no way to disable the focus ring of 45P lens. So I have to be careful on how to support the camera to prevent unintentionally shifting the AF.On Fuji in AF mode, shutter button needs to be half pressed in order to activate the manual focus ring. Hasselblad should learn this and not be so stuck up like Apple, or have a lens switch to deactivate the focus ring.Perhaps Hasselblad cameras are designed for mostly and mainly manual focus user, manual focus is always activated.
Honestly I purchased this lens because it was the most affordable one I could use with my new Hasselblad X1D II 50C, but it has turned out to be perfect for my current needs. As an f/4, it is not for low light situations, but when light is available it is sharp and captures perfectly. The 45mm has been ideal for all situations I've encountered so far with landscape photography, portraiture, and product shots.
The Hasselblad X1D II is my slow things down and truly enjoy photography camera. For everything else I use Leica SL2 cameras/lenses.Before purchasing the XCD 45mm f/4 P Lens, I had some worries: is this an entry-level, compromised lens? will it limit the crazy resolution of the X1D II?How will it compare to the much more expensive and amazing XCD 65 that I am using? After several sessions (street, urban, landscape) and several hundred photos, I came to the following conclusions:- this lens has amazing resolution, including the corners (real-life, not pixel peeping)- great contrast- light and small- very silent- great manual focus (with magnification), absolutely no need for AF.- amazing files- beautiful lens- crazy price for value proposition, ... MoreThe Hasselblad X1D II is my slow things down and truly enjoy photography camera. I kept looking for a catch but couldn't find one.Of course there is vignetting and pincushion with the RAW files, but who cares? it takes Lightroom 1 second to completely fix them... Done.Wow! What an amazing lens! Pure joy.
