With color aesthetics aside, these headphones are a minimalistic appearing over-the-ear style with a sleek and functional microphone that may be adjusted for use. The headphones are lightweight, which allows for comfort of the over-the-ear style and may be worn without significant discomfort after longer gaming sessions. I also have not had my ears get too hot while using them, which often is an issue with previous over-the-ear headphones. Charging is simple, using a USB-C port (which I feel has become a main standard for most devices). I have not had issues with battery life during a couple evenings gaming session. I typically charge most nights, but it is advertised to be able to get 28-hours of battery life from a charge. The connectivity of the headphones is mainly by a USB adapter piece/receiver with a toggle for PC vs PS5. Upon power-on the headphones connect quickly and efficiently without the need to pair or go through hoops to use; however, the USB adapter size is present and while gaming on my laptop found it hitting my leg some – which I just worry over long-term use could damage the adapter from pressure pushing up on it. There is not a Bluetooth connection option, so these are not necessarily compatible with most/some devices (like my phone for instance) which is not a deal breaker as they are not designed for that purpose necessarily, but worth mentioning. There is also the option to plug into a standard audio cable port, making available more devices for use. Once connecting on the PC, you may use the InZone Hub app to customize experience with robust equalizer options. There is an option for 360 spatial audio which provides a more robust gaming experience, enhancing ability to hear directional sound while gaming. I felt that although outside noises are not canceled out by these, for the level of headphone, there is a great dampening effect that allows for focus on the game. I felt that the quality of sound is appropriate for gaming related headphones, it is not as robust as some more enhanced noise-canceling models I have used; but is absolutely acceptable for purpose and expectation. Sony has taken core listening technology and turned this into a gaming tool: allowing for precision sound while in game, a microphone that those on the receiving end have not complained about voice quality and prolonged comfort. These headphones perform to the standard they are advertised as, and when it comes to a console/PC gaming experience are well fit for the task

First question I asked was how clear the mic was, and compared to the non-Sony headset I was using before, they said the Sony was preferred as I was much clearer in voice. Which can be great for communication depending on the game you are playing.I will need to use this headset on my PS5, but I have been waiting for Spider-Man to jump back over, but with my audio experience on the PC, I can't see it being much different other than taking advantage of the Spatial Audio More, which I has been a wonderful experience on my H7 headset. I was mostly looking for an upgrade to my PC gaming as I didn't want to have to keep moving the headset and dongle back and forth. With my experience using the Sony headsets, I can say for gaming they have really hit the mark on these as they don't pick up a ton of background noise, from my experience, and they have a nice cushion and lightweight design that does not bother me in long gaming sessions!

I found that feature was kind of neat to see in the Discord app but didn't really seem to improve sound quality at all. The H5 kind of proves that theory as my friends still thought the mic sounded very good for a gaming headset and the sound quality of other people talking in chat was very good. You can also set up a chat/gaming audio balance where your voice comms use the "headset" channel while your actual gaming sounds come through the "headsphones" channel, allowing you to set a balance through the Sony Inzone app so it doesn't always sound like the sounds are competing with each other. As for day to day usage, the Inzone H5 seems easy to live with. Sony advertises the battery life as 28 hours. I haven't been able to get 28 hours of gaming in to comment on this fully, but I will say that I have been able to use them for about a week now without charging them except for when I plugged them in right out of the box. I also found the automatic sleep to be pretty effective. The button placement is kind of strange and took some getting used to (hard to explain, and YMMV on this), but the buttons all feel sturdy and are easy to click once your hands find them. The mic does have a flip-to-mute capability which is great for my use case (mixed gaming and professional use).Overall, this is a great headset that is among the best I've used with my PC. This will be highly recommended for my friends and family during the holiday season.

Great wireless headset for the Sony-Loyal!
18 October 2023

This headset is a great wireless option to look at if you are one who is brand loyal to Sony or just want to maintain the aesthetic with your current PS5 console. In short, it accomplishes what it sets out to do: it offers great audio, great communication in a headset that packs wireless convenience into a price that need not be scoffed at by the Sony enthusiast. However, the Achilles heel in this headset is just that there are SO MANY other options out there that are arguably better at this price point. I won’t bother to start listing off competitive offerings at this price as a simple search on Best Buy’s website would do that for you, but I will elaborate on the things I think this headset does really well and where it could improve. It offers essentially the ... MoreThis headset is a great wireless option to look at if you are one who is brand loyal to Sony or just want to maintain the aesthetic with your current PS5 console. It offers essentially the same exact experience on my PlayStation console as it does my gaming PC, which is a really great thing! If you both a PlayStation and a gaming PC, it is nice to be able to take the simple 2.4ghz USB-A dongle included, switch it to either “PS5” or “PC” mode, and plug and play. On the PC, more customizability is obtainable with the Inzone software! I like this software and find it to be relatively simple and streamlined. I would have loved to have had more offerings in the mic output customization settings, but it is what it is at this point. The headset itself is built nicely. I really like the recessed, articulating pivot points of the headband-earcup interface. It is aesthetically pleasing and cuts down on the bulk in comparison to the Sony H9 headset I have reviewed in the past. The earcups are also quite comfortable, offering plenty of cushion and noise isolation without turning into ovens and keeping too much heat in. The headband itself is relatively comfortable on my average-sized-male cranium, but I think it errs on the side of just being a tad too thick across the whole headband and looks a little cheap as a result in that metric. Regardless, the end experience is one where I can sustain wearing these headphones for long 3–4-hour gaming sessions without getting too fatigued or hot wearing them. The audio is quite good at this price. I feel like they struck a great balance of not being too bassy as some headsets lean towards but offer the whole range of audio to give you a more balanced listening experience. Again, I was easily able to adjust this on the Inzone software and found myself liking the music/video preset the best. The microphone is qualitatively appealing as well! I took recordings with my daily-driver Logitech 535 headset and compared it with this Sony Inzone H5 wireless headset, and I found that my vocals were more present and less muffled than on the Logitech headset.Dollar for dollar, if you are an avid PlayStation 5 gamer, loved-one of one, or are a PC gamer just wanting to show Sony your regard, than this headset is a great choice. Thanks for reading and I hope this review has helped guide your decision!

Light wireless & wired headphones with microphone
18 October 2023

These wireless (and sometimes wired) over-ear headphones are great for music, gaming, teleconferencing and anything else you'd want to use headphones and a microphone for. They are light and comfortable, with enough padding to stay comfortable for long use. They come in black or white. You can connect to either a PC or a PS5 with the included USB dongle, which has a switch on it for either PC or PS5. You can download Sony's Inzone Hub software, but I plugged the USB into a few different computers (desktop and laptops) and it worked right away without the software. The dongle is a bit large in my opinion, basically the same size as a USB memory stick/thumb drive. I've seen other dongles that are quite smaller, but since it has to work with PC and PS5, it might have to be large. You can also use these headphones as wired headphones with the included audio cable, with any device that has a headphone jack (increasingly uncommon with phones and other devices as time goes on). I can see doing this with a laptop when you don't want the rather large USB dongle sticking out in a crowded situation, such as on an airplane or other mass transit. The sounds is good and clear, whether gaming or listening to music, movies or TV. The over-ear headphones mask a lot of external noise, which is a plus if you are using them around other people or in a noisy environment. There are two volume controls, one for general volume and one to adjust the volume balance of gaming and gaming chat. The microphone is pretty standard and works well. It is on the left side of the headset. When not in use you lift it out of the way, which mutes it. Lowering it enables it.I was kind of surprised that these don't offer Bluetooth connectivity, but there are plenty of other headphones that do. Since these are primarily targeted for PC and PS5 gaming, they evidently decided to skip Bluetooth.

Mid-tier at best

I didn’t notice any sync issues with voice/music when using these but if there is the headphones do have a 3.5 connection port. If you’re using these on windows you can download the INZONE HUB which helps with adjustment to the sound and has a feature where Sony maps your ear which should provide better sound but it did not make any difference when I was using them. The sound on the INZONE H5 is good in certain areas and horrible in other areas, where I found it to be great was with voices and small ambiance noises for this the INZONE H5 are one of the best in the business. When it comes to base that is totally different story, the sound is very hallow and its some of the worst base I have heard in a long time. The INZONE H5 also do spatial audio/360 and this is ok, I tried a few test and it seems as if the headphones don’t always get the sound correct everytime.Overall the headphones are ok but they are not something I could recommend with the range of options out there.

My favorite PS5 Headset
23 October 2023

The Sony INZONE H5 headset is probably one of the best headsets you can pair with your PlayStation 5. This is a great improvement over the previous Sony headset, with much clearer highs and miss, while delivering deeper lows for an immersive gameplay experience overall. In the box, you’ll find the Headset with attached microphone, a charging cable, a USB receiver with a toggle for PS5 & PC use, a headphone cable, and some basic documentation. To work with your PlayStation 5, make sure the PS5 is toggled on the USB Receiver, and plug it into any available USB A plug on your console. The connection is instantaneous, with the mic arm placement enabling mute when positioned up. The microphone is clear, at least from what I’ve heard from my friends when playing online, the stereo sound is better than my previous Sony headset, and the noise reduction made sure my dog wasn’t overpowering my online party chats. There is a button to adjust the volume of game and chat to find the right balance for you. I personally prefer the party chat volume over gameplay, since I’m usually on an first person shooter, playing team death matches with my friends online. On the other earphone you’ll find the USB C port for charging, and the volume roller. The headband has comfortable padding, allowing you to take advantage of long life battery for longer gameplay, without the headset fatigue found with others. I should point out, the claim of 10 minutes charge for 3 hours of gameplay, is surprisingly accurate. I actually got about 3 1/2 hours of game-time from a 10 minute chargeThe Sony INZONE H5 also work with the same USB receiver, while plugged into an available USB A port on your PC and the selector switch set to PC. It’s plug and play, and didn’t require any additional drivers when I used it the first time. There is also a headphone jack to connect to any standard 3.5” headphone output. When used on PC, the microphone will work for chat apps or for your online broadcast using your preferred streaming platform without any issues. The mute function works the same way, with the boom mic positioned up and back.Overall, the INZONE H5’s do a better job than most others on the market, and are an excellent option for those wanting a Sony audio solution, designed with their PS5 in mind.

Simple and Elegant!

There's probably 2 words that probably describe this product: Simple and Elegant. In this time when we are always looking for feature rich products this is a bold statement from Sony. And to be honest it's a bliss to have such a product that does exactly what it is supposed to do.Pros: Relaxing, extremely comfortable with no fatigue, excellent battery, great soundstageCons: No BluetoothThe extremely light yet robust headphones is designed for extreme users who would like to put them on for hours and yet notice no fatigue. I have used headphones and I normally have heavy ears after 2 hours. Sony Inzone H5 is an absolute champion in this and the fabric cup padding and generous cushioning across the headband gives a long lasting comfort, without any sacrifices. A low clamp force meant I could play or listen to music for hours at a time without feeling even a hint of pressure, while the slightly elongated oblong cups kept my ears comfortably housed without holding the ears tight.Sony Inzone headset doesn't comes with ANC but a very simplistic design approach with elongated oblong cups delivers an excellent sound isolation. As the headphones are designed for PC and gaming purpose the application is indoors where ANC is probably an overkill. It's a bold decision from Sony to leave out ANC and Bluetooth but Sony delivers on this and one can't complain. Users have to bear in mind it's not an all purpose headphones and only designed for PC application and gaming consoles. From it's looks to color scheme it resembles Sony’s PS5 Design Statement and is an ideal companion for PS5.The headphones come with 2.4Ghz low latency wireless connectivity and features 40mm drivers with frequency response 5 - 20 KHz. It comes with a mic with AI noise reduction and also has option for both wired and wireless connection. The H5 settings can be adjusted using the Inzone Hub. This is where, EQ settings and presets, dynamic range adjustments, spatial audio switch all can be found.Whether you are using some built in presets like music or bass enhancer or playing with equalizer settings, the Sony Inzone H5 absolutely shines in its sound quality. The H5 produces a detailed, faithful audio with a wide and dynamic soundstage. The audio delivery is smooth and vivid at the same time with no unnecessary extras. It effortlessly delivers a subtle yet detailed sound which is perfect for either gaming, listening to music or even voice calls over PC.This is definitely worth it for people who plays game both in PC and playstation. Also is it's a very useful product for someone who has high PC usage for making voice calls or wants to listen music in PC. With long battery life it is designed for long and continues use. The additional wired option just provides the added security in case one forgot to recharge the battery. All in a great product whose biggest strength is it's simplicity!

Super lightweight gaming headset!
23 October 2023

The Sony Inzone H5 Wireless Gaming Headset is an overall great gaming headset that I would recommend to just about anyone looking for a gaming headset. They are super lightweight with a very comfortable headband and ear-cups making long gaming sessions extremely comfortable. There are multiple ways to connect the H5's to your platform of choice, with bluetooth, auxiliary cord, and a USB-A to C connection you can connect this headset to just about any device. The sound quality is good overall with no noticeable distortion, the mic quality is also good and it is able to cut out a decent amount of background noise. My only complaints with the Sony H5's, and the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars, is the overall build quality of the headset and the limited ... MoreThe Sony Inzone H5 Wireless Gaming Headset is an overall great gaming headset that I would recommend to just about anyone looking for a gaming headset. The mic arm, at least for me, ends up sitting way to close to my mouth; to the point that my beard is rubbing on it, and only the last 2/3 of the mic is adjustable and only a small amount. This causes the mic to sit very close to my face with no way to really move it out further. I also have some concerns with the overall build quality of this headset, while it is very light, it also feels very flimsy and cheaply made. The ear-cups are very shallow and your ears end up sitting right agains the speakers, the headset is very "bendy" which leads to it feeling that it is cheaply made and makes me worry about its longevity.I would still recommend these to anyone looking for a great headset, but I would also be aware of the issues and concerns that I have with these. If they do not concern you or if they are something you can live with, I would highly recommend these. Just how light and comfortable these are make any of the issues moot for me since these are probably some of the most comfortable gaming headset that I have ever used.

Use it wireless only

Light, comfortable and sound amazing, provided you are using them wirelessly. If you use the included wired connection ALL of the good things about this headset vanish other than the comfort. As soon as I hooked the USB dongle to my computer, the headset was working. This will then change the audio to have 2 outputs, one for game and one for chat. This makes it so the game/chat volume rocker works to balance audio from the headset. The INZONE Hub also has the options to adjust the volumes as well as a 10 channel EQ to make the sound you prefer. The strangest thing about these headphones is the spatial sound. I have used Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Unbound and each have their unique differences but all do a decent job at providing spatial awareness in gaming content. However, to use the spatial sound for this headset you need to download the ‘360 Spatial Sound Personalizer’ app on your phone and take pictures of your ears to even enable it. It is a fairly simple process of holding the camera like taking a selfie and turning your head in the direction it tells you, but strange in comparison to just enabling it like other spatial audio. In comparison to the other spatial audio systems, I don’t notice much of a difference. It still does a decent job of giving spatial awareness, but you can’t even use the other systems with this headset to directly compare them. One thing to take notice of is when you are changing content. For instance, I might be in a game and in chat with a friend as well, so I change the game/chat volume on the headset and keep playing. But, then decide to watch a video and notice that no matter how much I turn the volume rocker, it just sounds low. That is because the ‘game’ volume has been turned down to increase the chat volume. You have to increase the game volume to regain full volume. Chat wise it works pretty good but the auto gain control can sound a little aggressive cutting some word off quicker than you intend, but there is no adjustment for it. It is either on or off. With it off, the microphone still does a decent job of not picking up every sound in the room.Battery life is listed up to 28 hours, I have not timed it directly, but I wore them for several hours over 4 days till they finally gave the warning of low battery. You can plug them up with the USB-C cable and still use them while charging. As mentioned at the start, the ability to use it wired is really just a waste in comparison to it being wireless. It turns off the moment you hook the wire to it, so the boost of it being powered is gone. So, everything now sounds tiny in comparison, there is no EQ and you can’t control any volume from the headset. To make matters worse, when trying to use it for chat, it just echoes chat right back to the other players. So, for PC and PlayStation while wireless, these are great. However, try to use it with an Xbox controller or other 3.5mm jack and they just turn out bad. Plus, they don’t have the option for Bluetooth, which seems like they could have so many more options if they did.Overall, these are a nice set of headphones provided you intend to use them with the included wireless dongle on PC or PS. They are fairly light, comfortable and breathable ear cups with a long lasting battery life and decent spatial audio that leads to a lot of endless gaming.
