Having purchased a Crew Jacket, size 1x XL, in November 18 I was very pleased with the jacket & the fit. It was perfect with a little room to spare. Unfortunately while on holiday in New York last December I managed to get grease all down one sleeve; no idea where it came from. So reluctantly I decided to purchase a new one. I ordered the Crew Midlayer Jacket, which for all intents and purposes was the same jacket, backed up by a HH employee when I was requesting my returns code. I decided to order both the 1xXL & also a 2xXL, just in case. I fully expected the former to fit perfectly given I was ordering the same jacket.......you can imagine my surprise & disappointment when both arrived.....I literally could not even get on the 1xXL & could barely get the 2xXL on, ... MoreHaving purchased a Crew Jacket, size 1x XL, in November 18 I was very pleased with the jacket & the fit. So I have ended up returning both, still waiting for the refund & have decided to stick with the damaged original jacket. I have to say for a quality brand such as Helly Hansen I expected more.......

This is my fourth jacket from HH. Dependable quality, serious engineering, waterproof, and always wearable. The fit is universally flattering, and the small details built into this jacket are what make it a winner. My go-to jackets on my track bike or on the boat. The crew midlayer is a great year-rounder in milder climates (I’m on the Chesapeake).TradeInn has good prices, but shipping to the US usually takes three weeks minimum.

Great jacket
8 August 2022

I'm 175cm tall, 68kg with a 97cm chest and this fits perfectly. Arm length is great. This is a great jacket. I can see myself using it for the occasional QLD rain storm, colder winter days and possibly as a snowboarding jacket (if I get the chance!). Feels high quality and does everything I need re being an all-round option for cold, wet weather while looking good.

HH - Best Jacket Ever
6 November 2022

The Crew Midlayer Jacket is one of the most stylish jackets on the market. I am regularly asked where to purchase them from. Living in Tassie and frequently sailing, you cannot ask for a better jacket that provides warmth, and freedom when bringing in the sails. These jackets are extremely well built and are a cut above competitors. I should know I have 5 of them.

I got my first one (red) in the West Marine in San Diego on a foggy spring day. Soon it became my go-to shoulder season and winter jacket. After five years it started to get a little ratty, so before heading to Zurich for a meeting and some skiing in the Austrian alps, I ordered another one (yes, still red). This is a great weatherproof jacket that works in DC when you want to stand out a bit, and on the slopes on warmish days when the big ski jacket is too much.Apre ski in Kitzbuhel or Ischgl? Well you could wear your coyote-trimmed fashion down jacket from you-know-where, but why not look a little more trim, and be more waterproof? A Navy Captain I know wears his in black, but I'll stick to red for now.One thing to keep in mind: It's pretty waterproof, so if you ... MoreI got my first one (red) in the West Marine in San Diego on a foggy spring day. The jacket was perfect and was received not long after ordering. I am wanting to order an additional jacket as the whole experience of order online was easier. If to fault anything, wish the cost of the jacket was a little less... I bought online as my size was not available at stores. But all in all love my jacket. Its exactly what I wanted.

Wonderful jacket: best deal in town
1 July 2016

I bought one of these a few weeks before a trip to Iceland (March 2016).I wanted a jacket that was water proof (or really "water resistant," since almost no garments are fully water proof ... ) and had a light insulation. All of the seams are taped and the main zipper has a nice storm flap. The two fleece-lined hand warmer pockets have sturdy zippers that are NOT weather resistant. The same goes for the chest pocket. If you have a mobile phone or something delicate, a zip-close sandwich bag will help out; or, don't use these pockets in a gale.Typically jackets similar to this are either uninsulated shells or super heavily insulated. The Crew Midlayer is in the middle. The combination of cleverly-placed venting and fleece give the Crew Midlayer an oddly huge comfort range. My only complaint, other than the lack of weather sealing on the pockets, is the narrow sleeves; but even that isn't so bad. The shape of the sleeves, from about the elbow down, keeps the arms from being bulky without being tight. A mid layer fits fine, just nothing for your polar expedition.

A super versatile lightweight, breathable, waterproof, and windproof jacket with the addition of an impressive style. The Crew Jacket looks great, in fact, I’ll go as far as to say it looks very cool. It’s packed full of tech; for such a lightweight jacket it seems to be bursting with innovation. It ticks all the boxes and satisfies the fundamentals without comprising a sharp cool look. One of the first things I noticed was the interesting approach to ventilation. A jacket that repels the wind and rain whilst providing adequate ventilation, a lightweight mesh material. On the practice-race day before the Sid Doren regatta in The Ethchells Jaguar Series on Biscayne Bay (Miami) last weekend, I had my first chance to test the Midlayer crew jacket. Conditions were: low 60s (F); overcast; 2-3 foot chop; 18-25 knots of breeze; fair amount of spray; occasional waves over bow and/or completing dousing hiking crew. Wore the Jacket as my outer layer--ie, in place of a spray top or foulies, over a pair of competitor salopettes. The Jacket performed wonderfully. Gear did not leak; no water seeped up inside the 'synched' cuffs, or up inside waist. There was only one wave that caught me off guard with zipper only 7/8 up, so caught a little seepage down from top. after zipping all the way up, no more seepage from top: hard to do, without a ... MoreOn the practice-race day before the Sid Doren regatta in The Ethchells Jaguar Series on Biscayne Bay (Miami) last weekend, I had my first chance to test the Midlayer crew jacket. Wore the Jacket as my outer layer--ie, in place of a spray top or foulies, over a pair of competitor salopettes. The Jacket performed wonderfully. Gear did not leak; no water seeped up inside the 'synched' cuffs, or up inside waist. There was only one wave that caught me off guard with zipper only 7/8 up, so caught a little seepage down from top. after zipping all the way up, no more seepage from top: hard to do, without a neoprene neck strap. Impressively, the Jacket kept me warm throughout, and yet had sufficient breathability that I was not too warm, even after active mark maneuvers followed by downwind kite-running. The design spec is probably not for use as outerwear, but it adds value to the product when a jacket is versatile and can have high-performance secondary uses. The low profile and minimalist design are a plus (sailors dislike too much fabric or protrusions--which simply get in the way, or get caught in blocks, cleats, winches, etc); the fleece around the neck and 'garage' for the zipper will improve comfort and enhance maneuvers when fully zipped; and the pocket placements and sizing are well executed. The styling is primo, and the combo of the integrated shell and classic micro polartec material provide confidence of warmth, breathability and water resistance while being lightweight enough to increase maneuverability and flexibility in use. the sizing is a little tight, probably due to typical European trends to be cut on the small side. I am 5'10" and 160 lbs--which would typically be a medium in the U.S., but this medium jacket is short on my arms and torso, and snug under the arms and around the shoulders. I have spent some time measuring the jacket specs against other gear in my sail bag. The measurements are similar, so I was mistaken yesterday when I referred to a sizing concern. the problem instead is restricted mobility in use, with tightness under arm, across the back, and sleeve shortness when raising arms (as in a halyard hoist motion); reaching forward with arms (as in trimming a sheet while hard hiking); or bending over or reaching down. in short, there seems to be a need for increased multi-directional mobility and/or fabric stretchability. Suggestions include adding underarm gussets, wide-joint flexibility, or use of a more stretchy fabric or pit zips.
