BEAUTIFUL crew jacket! Love the functionality and style! It tapers at the waist which prevents a bulky look and feel yet roomy enough for warmer weather clothing underneath. The hidden hood and fleece at the neckline are a PLUS! Its everything I wanted in a crew jacket and MORE! I would definitely buy again! It shipped quickly and was packaged nicely!
August 9th, 2015Outer Island race in Chester Nova Scotia, approximately a 5 hour race, raining with a constant down pour , mostly light winds with a temperature of plus 16-17., speed 7+- knots. Crewing on a 36ft C&C named Bazinga out of the Nova Scotia Royal Yacht Club.I wore the midlayer with only a t-shirt underneath for five hours under constant rainfall with only a few quick breaks down below. I noticed most crew were changing often with wet shirts underneath other well known brand jackets, I checked to see if I was wet underneath several times and to the very end of the race the rain did not penetrate this jacket , nor did water run down my neck and most of all I did not feel the wind or have chills. This latest version is a gross disappointment. - the hip level pockets are not as deep, the front zip no longer has a flap with velcro tags ( which was great as you could undo the zip for a little ventilation but not have the coat fall off) the outside top pocket is shallow so my keys fall out - I appreciate that it's made for a mobile but I had hoped it would have other uses, I've 2 other coats and both have under arm zips for extra ventilation but HH still don't do that. With all the exposed zips it lacks the stylish finish of my earlier one. the best thing is it's red but even then I couldn't buy it in store but was forced to buy it online. Really good quality jacket with warm pockets. It is wind proof and protects well from rain. What’s amazing about it is that it’s also breathable so I feel I that I can control my body temperature without feeling too hot or too cold.Really enjoy the nice fit that tapers around the waistline but also comfortable around the hip area.Love the colour! Looks formal without the hood.
I can only judge this jacket based on fit. I was a little confused when looking at the sizing - a lot of xxxxxxxxx available! I am 5'11 and curvy - typically wear a 2X in jackets. I contacted HH prior to ordering to determine best guess at a fit. I ordered three of these jackets to try them out (this is my first HH product), but sadly none worked. I found the jacket fit small and had to size up several sizes. The 3X was very snug I could do it up but no hope of fitting anything beneath it. The 4X was also quite snug but seemingly not much different than the 3. The 5X on the other hand, was a huge jump in spaciousness. This one fit well around the torso - albeit a little too loose - but was several inches too short for me. It felt a bit like a crop jacket. So if you were standing vertical and you opened your inside breast pocket or your outside Brest pocket in you had anything small (coins, aspirin etc) they would fall right out. The Helly Hanson Crew Jacket is definitely weatherproof and sports a great fit! The jacket is made top quality and keeps the wearer safe from rain, water, wind and snow. Pair it with a wool base layer and it will be all you need to keep snug as a bug in cooler temps down to the 40’s. Love this jacket. Tip: if you are endowed in the chest, size up.
