I've had my backpack and change pad for a little over a month now and I love both. I had a messenger style bag before and it was always over stuffed and messy. I transferred what I had in that bag to the Settlement backpack and even with the large Sprout change pad I had room to spare. I store the Sprout, diapers and wipes in the bottom compartment and then extra clothes and toys up top. It's super convenient to open the side zipper to access her diapers and not dig through her clothes. Also the change pad is a really good size. She's almost 6 months and 17 lbs and the pad has so much room for her to wiggle around. I don't use bottles as my girl is breastfed, but there are 2 side pockets that would be great for extra bottles. Excellent product!

I bought this backpack for freshman year. I was planning on using this backpack for the rest of high school since I’ve heard Herschel backpacks are durable and wonderful. After a lot of research, I still didn’t research enough cause clearly I DID NOT KNOW the mid volume would be smaller than the normal size. I know, very stupid of myself, I admit. In the future I recommend pointing out in bold words in the description that mid volume is smaller than classic for people like me of course! The backpack is kinda stiff so you would have to use it more for it to expand I guess? I hope it does! The zippers r very stiff so be careful to not scrape your hydroflask. Other than that, I have no complaints. Except for the stupidity and the stiffness of the bag!

Good for value, what else can you ask for.

I have been using Herschel backpacks for years and they never break, or even wear and tear. The quality is stiff and amazing. I only get new ones since I want new colors hahaha. Their backpacks are really high quality and are probably the best you can get for this price range. The style is also simple enough to stand the test of time, though of course you can also opt for funner colors.

Is it a backpack? A diaper bag? No - it's both!
15 March 2021

I had seen reviews online about this backpack, and thought at the price that it looked like good value for a "dad" diaper bag/backpack. I was really pleasantly surprised when it arrived!Firstly, the zipper is really sturdy, with large teeth. Don't ask why that stood out, I just like a zipper that doesn't feel like it might break every time I open or close it.Next, and probably the most handy feature for me: There is what looks like a random velcro strip on the inside of the back. Not random at all! Actually, a flat part in front of the laptop holder section (I originally thought it was just more detailing on the laptop holder) can fold down and attach to the strip. This basically splits the interior of the backpack into two compartments - a top section ... MoreI had seen reviews online about this backpack, and thought at the price that it looked like good value for a "dad" diaper bag/backpack. I was looking for something to replace my Jansport Superbreak, and I narrowed down to 'Settlement Mid Volume' (black with metal zippers) and Marc by Marc Jacobs Domo Arigato Packrat Backpack (black with metal zippers). I know, I know, the price tags have $140 difference, and they aren't supposed to be competed, but I think their looks are similar enough to be equally tempting. So I went to youtube and tried to find anyone sharing real life information about those bags (i.e., how the bags look in everyday light, in normal poses, etc.). I really loved how 'Settlement Mid Volume' looked, despite one Youtube mentioning the metal zipper could get stuck sometimes.I placed an order through Nordstrom, thinking that I can return it for free in case I'm not happy with it ... MoreI was looking for something to replace my Jansport Superbreak, and I narrowed down to 'Settlement Mid Volume' (black with metal zippers) and Marc by Marc Jacobs Domo Arigato Packrat Backpack (black with metal zippers). I really loved how 'Settlement Mid Volume' looked, despite one Youtube mentioning the metal zipper could get stuck sometimes.I placed an order through Nordstrom, thinking that I can return it for free in case I'm not happy with it after all. To be honest, when I first saw it, I thought it was too stiff - meaning it's not as causal-looking as something like Jansport Superbreak. Also, it doesn't look as spacious as those youtube videos suggested. I was tempted to exchange for the "Settlement" in normal volume. However, I convinced myself to just hang the bag over a hook for 2-3 days with some stuffs in it (makeup bags, snacks, etc.), and see what's gonna happen.I'm so glad I didn't return it, because the more I use it, the more I enjoy how it goes with every outfit. Granted, it will never be as relaxed-looking as Superbreak, but it's more than a school backpack! I even carry it when I go to shopping malls or run errands around town. The black and gold metal zippers make a perfect look.P.S. granted, the metal zipper is not as smooth as a plastic one, but I have no problem with it so far, and if anything happens, I believe it's covered within the Herschel one-year warranty.

Nice quality
20 January 2023

This is a sturdy, well built, and nice-looking backpack. I gave it 4 stars, not because of the quality, but because of its tall and narrow build. Not the most practical unless you have a large, long laptop or tall, narrow things to carry. I prefer a backpack that is deeper and carries more at the bottom. This bag requires that you pack going upwards, which isn't practical for my purposes. Otherwise, good Herschel quality and looks.

Terrible.
10 October 2022

I got this backpack for school, which I don't reccomend. It's okay for just going places and carring not a lot of stuff. But the zipper is really sharp and iv'e cut my knuckles multiple times. There is no water bottle pocket, it may seem like there is one on the inside, but it is so small doesn't even fit a small plastic water botle. the laptop slave is so loose that my laptop falls forward, into the middle of the bag. Only two pockets, a big one and small one. No orginizers. the leather zippers tabs have fallen off. zipper on one side only, with makes it hard to close when full. Which happens alot because it is so small.

The Peach Pineapple Pattern is GORGEOUS
15 July 2018

This is my second Herschel Settlement Mid Volume backpack. This review is for the peach pineapple pattern (which is no longer available) and it is simply gorgeous. I love just looking at it. It’s almost too pretty to use. Haha. Not only is the backpack beautiful, but also very functional. This backpack comfortably fits my 13 inch MacBookPro along with its charger and other items. Inside of the main backpack compartment, there is a big pocket to keep your laptop and accessories separate from the rest of the items in your backpack. The front pocket is great for items you frequently access. There is also a little hook inside the front pocket for your keys so you don’t have to scramble trying to find them in the front pocket. The hook makes your keys quickly accessible. ... MoreThis is my second Herschel Settlement Mid Volume backpack.
