My experience with IEMs can be boiled down to the nicely balanced Soundmagic IEMs (e10, e50, e80) and the crowd pleasing Sony (XB50AP). I bought the RE400 on a whim since it was on discount, and I'd always wanted to try it out.I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The enclosures are really small and can be inserted all the way into the ear canal, which feels very secure and not uncomfortable at all. The tips provided allow you to pick the sort of sound you like - while the default tips have subdued but punchy bass with a dry presentation, the white moulded ones seem to boost the bass more and make the sound more mainstream. The cables seem a bit flimsy but the IEM itself has good strain reliefs and seems to be solidly made. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Audiophile/Purists budget in ear headset.Almost uncoloured, Natural sound produced by single driver unit. Hats off to Hifiman.People looking bass or V type sound signature will get disappointed.I have used Sennheiser cx 180, cx275s. They Sound V type not to my taste.Akg K240 mkii and this Hifiman Re400a are my current favourites.I prefer uncoloured Natural sound and with 1999 bucks you get audiophile grade product. Built quality is better than Sennheiser but with 1 year warranty only. You will get headphone case along with it.Bought from authorised Hifiman seller headphonezone.in @1999/.This may be perfect product for your smartphone listening purpose.PS: I use Akg K240 mkii with my FiiO X3ii.

Well-balanced sound, probably one of the best you're going to experience under 2000 INR. But the wires are too fragile. My first pair lost sound in one ear, mostly right ear within 2 months. The replacement pair lasted about 1 yr before losing sound in one ear, the right ear again. But overall, in this price range, it's a great deal even if it lasts 1 yr. If it dies within 1 yr you can get a replacement. Overall I recommend it to all who crave balanced sound in reasonable price.
BackgroundI'm a mortal, not an Audiophile😉I listen to stuff off my cheap Samsung m30s or PC. FLACs, compressed YouTube and Spotify only.I don't have a dediacted Dac or Amp. I'm unsure if the cheaper ones are a significant delta over a smartphone and don't want to spend a bomb on something that's not compact/portable.I've owned the ATH-M50, Fiio ex1 gen2 (Dunu Titan), Beyerdynamic Byron, my daily driver is the e10c and have heard a few of the cheaper (<2k) Sonys, Sennheisers and JBLs too.The re400a is as most reviews describe it - neutral and mature.Positives1. Clean, fairly airy, Superb separation and detail that is presented organically (unlike the Dunu Titan 1)2. Inoffensive tuning. No in-your-face bass, no sibilance. Clean, fairly airy, Superb separation and detail that is presented organically (unlike the Dunu Titan 1)2. Inoffensive tuning. No in-your-face bass, no sibilance. Though 'parts' of female vocals seem brighter than neutral, at times.3. You can hear every detail Very clearly. You will notice words decay Very naturally and will also note pronunciation like never before, without trying hard.4. The more complex, layered a track is the more rewarding these are and will leave your typical v-shaped IEMs sound like garbage on complex tracks (Dunu Titan 1 included, which cost twice as much as these!)5. Spot on imaging. On complex, layered & well-mastered tracks you can place singers and instruments precisely.6. Width is Impressive too.7. Very responsive to EQ tweaks!8. Easy to drive off my cheap android phone, loud enough at 70%.9. Aretha Franklin, Carpenters, Norah Jones et al. sound good on these (mostly)Negatives1. It's a little thin, dry, lacking in emotion I.e. vocals aren't particularly rich/velvety/lush. At times male vocals can sound nasal too. Try the Byron's if you can find them. The Byron's are dark, have no air but the vocals (particularly male vocals) and sub-bass on them are Very impressive on timbre and the detail is also good, don't have them now for a direct comparison.2. These aren't perfectly neutral. Parts of mids are forward?! I.e. There's a weird dip/spike in the upper frequencies. On 'Mr. Postman' you should notice a weird "sway" in Karen's voice when she goes higher up. I.e. her voice should scale up in a linear manner, it doesn't.3. On some tracks you wait for the exciting part to wow you, doesn't happen. Although the bass is tight it's a little distant and at times lacking in quantity & weight. So you need your v-shaped ones to compliment these.4. Although imaging is Superb the soundstage is underwhelming. It feels like the sound is coming from inside your head, not around you. There's also not much height to the sound though width is great and depth is OK to good. Just for reference, the ath-m50 had phenomenal height to the sound and of course a much bigger overall soundstage. IIRC, the Fiio EX1 gen 2 had a much bigger soundstage than the re-400a.5. On quiet parts within a track sometimes I notice a hiss. It could be down to the track itself (these aren't totally unforgiving of poorly mastered tracks) or perhaps my cheap phone isn't up to the task.I've never heard neutral'ish IEMs before. So these are a breath of fresh air and an Awesome addition to my wee collection. But I also have new found respect for the Byrons and the E10c. I now understand that perhaps there is no one IEM that can do it all.VERY impressive for the price. Highly recommended!
Coming from Senns to Sound magic E10 , Beyerdynamic Byron, i can say that this set of inears just plays the music pretty much accurate in terms of Mids and Highs. The highs are well detailed, extended with a bit touch of harshness which doesnt hinder your listening. The Mids are well placed detailed, run a bit dry and clinical. The Downside would be definetly the bass section. Its not like scooped out bass, but the punch of it, the extension of it. Listen to any Soundtrack works of Howard Shore ( LOTR and The Hobbit), you will find the track to be a bit dry and punchless, but due to its mids and Lows, the musicality is not lost too. The Sub Bass level is all about tones and rumbles, but the presence of it creates a depeth and punch to the music. The Sub Bass level is all about tones and rumbles, but the presence of it creates a depeth and punch to the music. Thats whats i really miss from this set of inears esp when compared to Beyers. The Mid bass and overall sound signature is kind of similar to what Soundmagic had offered in E10, though with a but more punch to music from the latter. When i made the purchase the whole concern was regarding the soundstage of the inears. As my preceedimg inears was Byrons, the soundstage was something very unique and very wider than most of the inears i have heard. RE400 doesnt tread the same path of Wider soundstages rather interestingly it sounded too tight out of the box. Give them some burn in for prolonged time, ( it takes Longer ), the sound shapes better , dynamic, musical. The cons of the inears would be the Fit of them inside ears. Even though they gave some 7 pairs of inears earplugs, i had to struggled to find the better one for my ears. Finally my unused ear plugs from byron came into help. Even it does help sound better, so i guess buying a comfy ear plugs would be a good choice. In a Way i would say, this set of inears would have a Love it Hate It Kinda Relationships. For all Bass heads, and ears which are sensitive to highs more than bass, and who loves European sound signatures, stay Away from it. RE400 is for all those eho loves somr Jazz, Blues, Vocals.
The sound is mind blowing at the price range, although the piece they are giving at the price of 2k is Hifiman RE400a, that doesn't have braided cable, volume controls and the metal slider shown in the pictures. Kindly mention this in the description, HeadphoneZone. Hyper clarity in highs, mids and lows, the lows are not tuned for bassheads though. Appreciable soundstage and excellent sound separation, the flat sound signature being the USP of Hifiman-RE400. The small size and design of the earphones makes for a very comfortable fit, and the small bi-flange ear tips are quite good. The cables look and feel quite flimsy, so handle with care is an understatement in this case. Overall, keeping cable flimsiness aside, an absolute bang for the buck.

These earphones little different earphones.I won't post any pictures of these earphones because there is nothing special about the looks.I have bought type C earphones and they are working great with my OnePlus type C. this version have volume controls. The mids are good and sound quality of these depends upon song quality. You shall hear good melodious songs like AR Rahman. They won't work good with item songs because these songs have not good staging. I am hearing Rahman's and 90s songs on this which is good. Base is there and won't disappoint and don't disturbs other instruments which you are able to hear properly. I turned off my mobile Dolby equaliser for these earphones so I am hearing good output.I got only one extra pair of eartips. A sound signature like this, flat and accurate tonally correct is definitely not expected from an in ear headphines with 8mm drivers. Truly a surprise!I mostly listen to classical.music and instantly caught on to previously muted undertones, the scratch of the players fingers on the guitar, the gentle creak of wood on the piano when I used these little monsters with my FLACs. They have a decent soundstage that extends beyond your ears to somewhere around the range of a helmet ( just didn't expect that on these small drivers). Noise isolation is passive but they rest inside the ear and provide a good seal thereby eliminating most noise in my experience. The only negative is microphonics and cord noise as this definitely something you might want to consider. Don't consider them if you want to stay active like marathon running or gymming while wearing these as the cord noise might interfere with your enjoyment.Sound quality is well worth the money, that is if you listen to instrumentals and high quality codecs. Otherwise you might want peppy headphones as these are really flat and neutral sounding( some people do enjoy it!)
