Interesting, my review never showed up! BEWARE!!! Hills changed the formula on this food. The original formula helped my dog so much. But they've changed the formula. Petco has not updated their site to reflect this, but the new formula is what you will get. It is 90% different than the original. I don't understand how HIlls could change a PRESCRIPTION formula that helps so many dogs so differently. This isn't an issue of will my dog like it - this is medically necessary! But the worse part is the new formula contains "crushed pecan shells". Pecans are toxic to dogs! And if you're dogs medical problems were resolved with the original, good luck with this new formula.

hills has completely changed the formula to this PRESCRIPTION dog food. They ingredients are drastically different from the original formula. Beware. Petco has not updated their site to reflect the new ingredients, but that is the version you will get. I don’t know why a company would do that to a PRESCRIPTION dog food.. please do your research before buying and if you have the original to your sog you will need to slowly transition to the mew formula. Good luck that it works the same. Also, the new version contains pecan shells. Not sure why as pecans are toxic to dogs.

I am currently using this food for my 7yo Miniature Schnauzer. He was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma about 9 months ago. I believe we caught it VERY early, by luck. He has had a splenectomy and we decided to forego cancer treatment, as it would only "buy" him 2 months... I wasn't going to put him through that. Well here we are, 9 months later, and he is still doing great as far as we can tell! Very happy and playful. I started him on this food about 9 months ago, as he was having some issues with diarrhea and throwing up. So he is on a can a day (I supplement unsalted green beans too), and also taking Prilosec (for digestive issues), Benadryl (allergies), Yunnan Baiyao (Chinese herbs for cancer) and I'm Yunity (immune supplement for cancer). All meds recommended by vet. I have found it best to feed him using a spoon to avoid food beard! :) He LOVES his mealtimes, LOVES the canned food, LOVES the green beans! :) The only reason that I did not give this a 5-star review was because of the consistency of the product, it is...well... inconsistent. Sometimes it's stickier than others. This last case we started is the worst yet - it is very coarse like, almost similar to crumbly like dry cornbread. Will NOT hold together and there is NO WAY to hide a pill in it (can't form a meat ball). i turned the can upside down to get the lid off (after i opened it, it was down in the can) and fortunately i was over a sink, liquid oil just came right out of it! I have had it too sticky before as well, like peanut butter! Can't get it off the spoon and it sticks to the roof of his mouth. Please somewhere in between, something that sticks together so a pill can be hidden in it and not stick to the spoon and his mouth, but also not so dry that he has to about choke it down and I can get it to hold shape on the spoon. Very frustrating! I have used this product off and on for MANY years with my dogs that have gotten upset tummy to get them back on track, have never experienced this issue!

I wrote my first review 8 years ago when my Boston Terrier Service Dog was about 1.5 years old. I got her as a year old puppy with horrible stomach problems. The problems were so bad she couldn't keep down boiled white rice with chicken breast. I took her to my vet, who had been my vet for 25 years, and he recommended Hill's Science Diet i\d. He also had a Boston Terrier with stomach problems and had had great success with this food. It took less than a week of slowly switching food to i\d and no more diarrhea, no more vomiting. I was amazed at the results. She is now 9 years old and has not had one stomach issue since putting her on i\d.
My dog was diagnosed with pancreatitis and needed to go on a special diet. He likes both the dry and canned food, but I mostly give him the dry as we have another dog who did not understand that he got something better than she got. He is 14 so missing 17 teeth, and the food has small bites for him. After 1 month on Hills Prescription diet I/D, the vet checked his liver and other blood work and informed me his liver level was normal. He has to stay on this food, but he is doing exceptionally well on it and I will continue to buy this brand and from PetFlow as shipping was fast and easy plus they reached out to the vet for his prescription. FYI years ago, I used Hills special diet for our rescued cat who passed away at 12 yrs old after eating this for 11 years.
Our vet prescribed this food for one of our dogs, who has been diagnosed with hypothyroid disease. We feed it to our other pup, too, but neither of them have come to like it over the few weeks we've had it. I bought some of the canned version to mash in with their evening meal, and then they largely eat the kibble (most of which is left over from morning meal). But just the dry food, they quite literally go to bed hungry with full bowls of this left. Our senior pups are 18# & 22#, and the kibble size is small enough for them. We've noticed that their stool has been more consistently solid than with their old foods (Honest Kitchen kibble with fresh/frozen mixed in).
I am so disappointed that Hill's decided to change the formula of the low fat i/d pate. My 15 year old yorkie-poo who has chronic pancreatitis has been eating this dog food and nothing else for over 5 years. Suddenly they change the label (did not know they changed the formula at first) and my dog became extremely sick.. vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic, no appetite. I took him to the vet and later found out that Hill's changed the formula. I tried adding a little bit of the new formula to the old formula to get him acclimated but even the tiniest amount made him vomit. This is so upsetting since my elderly dog is so used to eating this food and I am running out of the original formula. I have called Hill's and filed a report on this, but not sure what good that will ... MoreI am so disappointed that Hill's decided to change the formula of the low fat i/d pate. My vet recommended the Science Diet dry dog food for weight loss for my older dachshunds and then I decided to look up what is in it and low and behold it has Propylene Glycol in it which is an ingredient in anti freeze!!!! It causes cancer and Kidney failure and death as it builds up in the dogs body, no wonder we are having so many dogs dieing. I also read that many other dog food companies use this ingredient for a preservative. It also said it has already been taken out of cat food because it is so dangerous to cats. Wow whats with this Hills and Science Diet????? I really thought I was doing something good and healthy for my dogs but I see it is not, in fact it is a death sentence for my fur babies and I will never forgive myself for giving them your dog food. ... MoreMy vet recommended the Science Diet dry dog food for weight loss for my older dachshunds and then I decided to look up what is in it and low and behold it has Propylene Glycol in it which is an ingredient in anti freeze!!!! Wow whats with this Hills and Science Diet????? I really thought I was doing something good and healthy for my dogs but I see it is not, in fact it is a death sentence for my fur babies and I will never forgive myself for giving them your dog food. I feel like I have shortened their little lives and they are so innocent because they are dependent on us to care for them and give them and feed them a healthy safe diet. Why would a company who leads us to believe they are a reputable company who claims to care about dogs, put this poison in their dog foods. I hope you have a good explanation for this one Science Diet and Hills dog food company, because I don't believe there is a good explanation for this except money the good old dollar sign. As long as you put Propylene Glycol in the dog food it preserves it from getting old which makes it last longer on the shelf and in the warehouse, so there for it saves you money Science Diet and Hills by not having to throw away out dated old dog food as soon, since it is preserved by Propylene Glycol and will last longer on the shelf and in the warehouse which saves your company money, that's where the good old dollar comes in, and you save the good old dollar, Science diet and Hills. I am so saddened by this. There is an article on the web about Science Diet getting the government ok to use this Propylene Glycol in their dog food too, so if the governments involved you know its bad. By the way I also read that all vets that sell Science Diet and Hills dog food gets a compensation Kick back for selling all they can. I am also dissappointed in my vet for recommending this dog food. I believe he knows better besides if he can sell me this dog food and cause kidney failure or cancer in my dogs then he makes money too because I would take them to him for a check up and treatment. What a racket!! What a bunch of dishonest thieves and and fur baby killers. Shame on all of you who are involved in this scam!!!! I, as would many other dog owners like an explanation for your use of Propylene Glycol in your dog foods although I don't believe there is a good enough explanation out there to help my fur babies now that their lives have been shortened..
One of our dogs was throwing up yelllow/clear phlegm frequently in the morning, not wanting to eat for a bit, and then would be fine until the next morning or every few mornings. We tried switching foods when our vet mentioned she may need to get tested for GI issues if it continued. Once blood was mixed with phlegm we went to our vet immediately to get medications to help while they sent off her stuff for testing to a GI panel in Texas to confirm what our vet thought. She recommended switching to this prescription dog food, noting sometimes it’s just needed for a few years, but usually dogs stay on for life. I had serious doubts it would help (and of course is a higher price than most foods) but it WORKS!! Our dog quickly grew to love the food within a few days ... MoreOne of our dogs was throwing up yelllow/clear phlegm frequently in the morning, not wanting to eat for a bit, and then would be fine until the next morning or every few mornings. Our dog is a pomeranian/maltese mix at 7 years old - He used to vomit bile constantly, hated eating, and was overall never very playful. He used to be on blue buff. all his life and at one point a commercial brand raw diet and never enjoyed it. His health is improving every day. He hasn't vomited since, he has no signs of nausea, no pain, its like a miracle food honestly.I highly recommend this brand and if you are going to buy this specific food to treat Pancreatitis or other stomach issues, I also recommend you make homecooked meals like boiled chicken, carrot, rice (no salt or oil) and things like that to supplement treats. It has worked for us pretty well.I am very happy about all of the ingredients and the vitamins in this food and the impact it has had on my dogs health.Thank you Hills Science!!
