Despite mine and my dog’s joy at trying the dry food (see my other review), I was not as impressed by this one. Of course she ate it, as she has never said no to wet food. But I was surprised how much ‘filler’ there seemed to be in the can. A lot of juice/sauce, and not as much meat as I expected. I did appreciate that there seemed to be a decent amount of veggies and rice though. I wasn’t blown away by this and due to the price point I probably wouldn’t reach for it, but am grateful to be able to have tried it!

Dented cans

My dog has been on this food for two years and really enjoy its. I usually order through chewy and have no problems but in my most recent order when I ordered two cases every single can in both cases was deeply dented. Deep dents affect the structural integrity of the canning and can lead to bacteria that could make my dog sick. Very disappointing to say the least as the box/package it arrived in was in good condition so this clearly happened prior to shipping.

Disappointed with dented cans

I have always been happy with Chewy deliveries until I started ordering cases of Hill Science dog food. I don’t know if the problem is Hill Science, Chewy packaging, or the delivery truck, but the last two times I ordered cases of Hill Science dog food, just about every can was dented. In the previous case, the seal had been broken on one can with the food leaking out. I will no longer be ordering cases of dog food cans for delivery. I’ll get them from the grocery store or vets office where I can inspect them to make sure they are in good condition. My dogs love the food, but I should have to pay this much to get dented cans and the risk of spoiled food.

Excellent Quality Food

My senior dog is preferring softer foods over his regular hard dogfood (he will be 13 this month) so we researched what would be the best option for him. He loves the Hill’s Science Diet Savory Stew with Beef and veggies and I love the nutritional value! We give him half a can for supper along with a half cup of his regular dog food, which he still likes and he is doing very well. He didn’t even experience any loose stool or diarrhea when we added the Hill’s. He’s a happy doggie and is eating soooo much better! I was concerned bc he had decreased the amount of food he was eating. We always used to leave his dish down all the time with food in it. He self regulated. But he began eating less. Now he’s back to eating a healthy amount. Favorite for my senior mini schnauzers

I have two senior mini schnauzers who struggle with pancreatitis and sensitive tummies. I feed them an Rx food from Science Diet but it's really bland and they don't enjoy it. I started supplementing with this half their meal and it doesn't bother their tummies at all and they love it. Plus it's much more affordable.My girls are 20 pounds each and the chunks are pretty big so I do use scissors to snip them in half, but my husband does not when he feeds them and they still eat it no problem. I just cut it since they are smaller dogs. I think a really tiny dog would find the chunks way too big tho.

Master Chief LOVES Beef Stew!!

My 12 year young Boxer/American Bulldog, Master Chief, has several seasonal and food allergies and it's hard to find food that he can eat. Several years ago his dogtor recommended Hill's Science Diet brand foods so we tried it. Not only did he love every flavor but you could tell a difference in him in every way within about 2 weeks. He doesn't itch anymore and we were able to take him off of 2 of his allergy medicines!! Thank you Hill's Science and a big THANK YOU to Chewy for making it so easy and affordable to get my boy his food.

No consistancy!

I use this product for my senior dogs and the last few deliveries the majority of the cans are like the one pictured! I poured off the gravy and have only about 2/3 of a can of chunks! My dogs don't want to just lap up the gravy! Why am i paying price increase after price increase! Sometimes it is just a can or two like this, but now it is every single can! i use about 8 cases a month or more. The dogs like the product, but I will have to switch if this continues!

Not Thrilled

I wanted my dog to like this food. She generally prefers stew-type wet foods to the pate varieties. She is also getting up there in age so I want her to have some senior-specific food in her diet. She ate a few trays of it begrudgingly. I could tell she was only eating it because she had waited until she was really hungry. Now she won't touch it. Hopefully the Purina pro plan beef recipe for seniors comes back in stock soon, she loved that one. I do think this food is good quality and a good choice for senior dogs, I just don't think the taste is thrilling if you have a dog that is a little bit discerning when it comes to food.

Science diet

Cardiology vet told me to put my senior dog on science diet immediately: dog food companies that have been around longest have conducted trials on different breeds, ages, better rescource. Cooper had congestive heart failure. Told never to give him - or other dogs - lamb again: potentially bad for heart. Cooper and his sib love the canned food. Prefer the 1-6 year formula over the senior formula: I give them a blend.

Tasty addition to dry kibble

HIll's Science Diet for Adult 7+ is recommended by my vet for my senior dog. I feed him primarily a kibble diet, but find he relishes it much more with a bit of canned food added to every meal. This "stew" is chunky. I fish out four chunks of the meaty part and some of the veggies & gravy as well to smear onto his dimpled feeding tray. With the edge of my spoon I cut the meaty chunks into smaller pieces. Then pour a measured amount of kibble over that, press it down a bit and shake it to spread it out more into the tray's dimples. This gives my dog a great deal of motivation and feeding satisfaction as he licks the stew from every dimple and searches all the way to the edge of his tray for stray bits of kibble.
