We tried different medication for my hyperthyroid cat and he HATED them all. It got so this once loving cat would run and hide when he saw me or my husband approaching him, and we were desperate to find another solution. He was not a candidate for iodine treatment, for many reasons, and we decided to try this food as a last resort, even though we were skeptical that simply changing his diet could possibly impact his condition in a meaningful way. Boy, were we wrong! This food has been so effective that after only 4 weeks his bloodwork is greatly improved and well on the way back to normal levels. And his behavior and attitude are back to normal, too - sweet and loving and happy to see us! And his behavior and attitude are back to normal, too - sweet and loving and happy to see us! He's always been finicky and fickle, but he took to the food right away, both the dry and the canned. In fact, he really loves the canned food - it is rather dry but we mix it with a little water and he eats it right up. The only problem now is that the canned is impossible to find! Fortunately the dry food seems to be readily available, so we're relying on that until we can once again get the canned as well. BTW - the vet suggested that our cat drink distilled water instead of tap water, to make sure he's not getting any possible extra iodine from the water.

My cat has Hyperthyroidism at age 12 and was showing the worst of symptoms: Dandruff/Shedding of coat, hunger, increased urination, increased water intake- the works. My vet and I had tried pills 2 times a day to combat this, but she had an absorption problem, rendering the pills useless. My vet recommended this food for her. My cat's health comes before anything else, so the flavor of the food isn't an issue, but it would be nice to give her certain flavors that she would enjoy...you know, considering this is the ONLY thing your cat can ever eat again. That's right, no treats, no Sheba cat food, not even a speck of ham or turkey. I lucked out that my picky eater will tolerate the food. I'm hoping to see continued improvement in the coming weeks and reccomend this ... MoreMy cat has Hyperthyroidism at age 12 and was showing the worst of symptoms: Dandruff/Shedding of coat, hunger, increased urination, increased water intake- the works. It appears all online vendors are the same price, but your vet is likely to have coupons, so I would order with them if possible. Good luck to anyone who wants their baby to be happy snd healthy living with an over active thyroid! ;]

I have been feeding my two elderly cats on the hills thyroid dry diet for 2 years and it has worked well in controlling the hyper active thyroids: hills then changed the formula and both cats vomited, had diarrhea and completely stopped eating. One cat had to go onto drip for two days, the other had to have meds to stimulate appetite. I will never trust hills again. I rang them and they told me there were 3 changes to formula but they were minor and should not have affected them. There was no notice on the packaging.

The thyroid care dry food has been helping my cat and has been the only feed I had been able to feed without him spewing. Until today when we fed our cat a newly opened bag and spew everywhere within 2hrs of feeding. Checked out and compared the new bag of thyroid care dry to the old bag of thyroid care and the ingredients have changed! So now back to square one.
Oscar was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at age 10. After a week or two on the tablets he started having terrible reactions and we had to stop. Paid $5K+ for thyroid irradiation, which held it back a few years, then it returned when he was 14. The vet advised against another lot of radiation, saying it will probably put him into kidney failure.Hills Science Diet was our final hope... and he loves it! Last blood test showed his T4 had dropped from over 260, down to 68, which is just over the upper limit of normal!!! Thanks Hills.
This product is amazing. My 19 year old cat was so frail and sick. After blood test showed extremely high T4 count I thought I'd try the dry food for treatment. She was never a big dry food eater but loves these and with in two weeks on them she has put on weight and is looking so much healthier. Can't recommend this product more.
My 20-year old cat has been on this diet for hyperthyroid for over a year and prefer it to pilling with felimazole for many reasons. However, with the recent re-formulation, my cat turns her nose up to this product! She once was excited to eat it but no more. Sadly, we are back to two options again for treatment: radiation or felimazole.
Our 15yo cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at age 10. Radiation treatment (very expensive!) worked for a couple of years but soon his T4 was back up over 250. (Tablets were out of the question, as he had a severe reaction to them after a few days). The vet suggested the Hills yd cat food. We hoped he would like the taste, and he loves it! Last blood test showed his T4 down at 68: just 8 above the upper limit of normal! We are thrilled.
Our cat has hyperthyroidism. Using this food enables us to avoid daily medications to treat her condition. She likes the food and we are already seeing a difference in her weight and other hyperthyroidism symptoms. We also find that she enjoys it when we make gravy by putting a little bit of the food in a separate dish and adding a few tablespoons of warm water to it. We were also impressed by the speed with which we received the food; it was far superior to other pet med businesses.
