This was recommended for my dog to try who has suspected IBD. We have used hills prescription foods in the past so thought this would be the best choice to try of the prescription hydrolyzed foods. Unfortunately, it did not help my dog at all and she refused to eat it at all after about a week and a half. She’s never had an issue eating food before.I did not keep the bag so was unable to return the mostly unused food to Chewy. If you try this food for your dog, make sure to keep the bag and box if you want a refund. I was out of luck unfortunately due to poor foresight on my part.

My pit bull had a bad allergy flair up and rash breakout that my vet attested to it likely being his food and him having a protein allergy. So I got a script for this and after feeding it to him for 8 weeks (and only this, used as treats too and he doesn't ever get fed any table scraps anyway) and spending a fortune it has done absolutely nothing to reduce his itching, rashes or licking issues.I ordered him an allergy test that we are still waiting on the results for and I would strongly advise going that route first before trying this seemingly rip-off food. It is much more productive to isolate the trigger than to just guess and spend an outrageous amount of money that doesn't even fix the issue, it just masks it. I'm very disappointed in my vet for recommending this without offering any other alternatives first. I should have been more intuitive but I was in a hurry to try and help my dog out because he had to be miserable with all these skin issues.

Arlo has IBD. It has been absolutely heartbreaking to watch. For the first year of his life I bought all the garbage online saying raw is best and corn it killing your dog. Turns out their unscientific advice is what was hurting my boy. Science, my vet and my own experience prove this food is effective and not only healthy, but fantastic. Please don’t be swayed by the unscrupulous influencers who would rather sell you a diet guide then tell you to listen to your vet. Arlo isn’t totally symptom free, but I don’t come home to a kennel soaked in hemorrhagic diarrhea or watch him throw up 5 times a day and he’s finally a healthy weight. Apparently corn isn’t so bad after all.

I will never buy this dog food again! As the pet owner I accept complete responsibility for this purchase.I only use a prescription item, but the price is ridiculous.MOST importantly, the first ingredients is cornstarch so why on earth what I feed this to my pet ? Vet recommended or not. This was my first time using Science Diet & .will be my last. I was discussing this with the other teachers at work and they were all gobsmacked that Chewy would even sell an item like this, but we’ve been in general very disappointed with Chewy lately.Seems like their customer service service is really lacking and to request a refund would be another chore that we don’t have the mindset to argue about. What a waste of $50.
*LENGTHY FOR A REASON, HOPE THIS HELPS*My vet had stuck my, now, 7mo English Mastiff, Sampson, on this food due to severe itching. He's been on this food for about 4 months. He had severe itching problems due to some allergy. We couldn't test to see what allergy he had, due to him being so young at the time, so my vet gave us this food as a last resort. He loves this food and shovels it down! Yes it is very expensive, but I would rather my dog eat this food, than go on expensive medications that could kill him.Since being on this food, his itching is pretty much completely gone, he gets lots of compliments on how soft his coat is, and is so much happier now that he's gotten relief. I'm extremely grateful to our Vet for suggesting this food. With all this being ... I'm extremely grateful to our Vet for suggesting this food. With all this being said, I understand this food may not work for everyone's pups, but I wanted to write this review in hopes someone might find it useful. I tried everything. He started on Purina One Chicken and Rice Formula Large Breed Puppy. Then we switched to Purina One Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon. Then we tried Hills Science Diet Lamb, and finally gave this a try, along with antihistamines and an isolation diet, and by the grace of God, it worked! I recommend this if your pup is having allergies and is biting, scratching, and chewing themselves to death, at least try this food. I hope everyone's pups are healthy! Also Chewy did a fast job on delivering it. Usually if I order anything it takes 3ish days. His food got here in 2 days, which is great, because he was running out.
My pugs need a grain free diet, but I didn't want to give them the controversial pea protein that can contribute to heart disease. This formula is perfect for them. They tolerated it well from the beginning, with barely any break in period. Their skin is clear, no sneezing or itching, their ears aren't red, itchy or full of brown discharge. They do well with poultry, so they had no issue with duck. It must be highly digestible because their poops are smaller and they now only go once a day
My 9 year old amstaff/rottie mix has struggled with itchy skin and a sensitive stomach for years. We have tried several other diets, but my vet recommended finally trying a prescription diet since we weren't having any luck with the others. He only eats Hill's Z/D dry and the Hill's treats and his skin/coat has improved significantly. He also use to have terrible farts that would literally clear the room and those have also gone away. I don't love the price, but the fact that I'm not buying candles all the time helps.
I started this food with the direction of our veterinarian in conjunction with our own concerns. Our lab had constant ear infections and tummy rash no matter what we fed. We tried 100 different foods; high end low end, novel protein, you name it. I never would’ve thought that a lab (everyone thinks labs will eat anything but that’s not referring to dog food) would need a RX diet. To our surprise he ate the food and seems to really enjoy it. His ears are no longer infected and his neck is healing from the constant sore that he always had. Aside from the testimony, I know that Hills has a bad rap and no one wants to feed their dog foods that cause “mystery illness” or that are owned by big companies that have nothing to do with dog food, but when you had a dog that ... Aside from the testimony, I know that Hills has a bad rap and no one wants to feed their dog foods that cause “mystery illness” or that are owned by big companies that have nothing to do with dog food, but when you had a dog that was extremely ill and then the dog recovers and the food helps him or her get back on track and feel comfortable, you will possibly change your mind and realize that pets have strange needs sometimes and they are not the same as us. They are animals and when their systems get out of whack sometimes the solution is strange. For that reason I recommend this food if you have tried many other avenues that still aren’t working and your vet approves.
We have tried chicken, beef, salmon and turkey over the course of a couple years and our dog was having food reactions. She was eating salmon protein for a year with no issues, and then, nope. So we decided to go hydrolyzed, at least for a few months, then discuss the next step with our vet. Before trying this food, she was requiring coaxing to eat and sometimes skipping meals. I think she was associating the symptoms she was feeling with eating. We offered the hydrolyzed food, and by the second meal she was back to normal. No more rolling and rubbing her face after she eats, and no blood on her poop. It’s been life changing for her. We are very relieved to have found a solution for our girl’s problems!
When we first brought our new pup home 3 years ago we had ongoing issues with his skin because of the food he was consuming. We tried different products which were high quality however still had the same issue. It was recommended by our vet to try the Hills Prescription Diet Z/D dry food. Instantly his skin cleared up and also his coat became so beautiful he looked like a show dog. It was amazing he great he looked and still does. He now only has cooked chicken breast with this dry food and a little greek yoghurt on top. I will not use any other dry food as the vet said he can continue to always have this.
