Absolute rubbish. Read the reviews and believe them, I didn’t. This lock (Hiplok Z Lok Combo) WILL change the combination on its own. You will be very very upset when you can’t get it to unlock because you thought others were incompetent and couldn’t operate a simple lock. Surprise surprises the lock can change on its own. Absolute rubbish!

Awful experience with this product. Similar to most of these cheap combination locks manufactured in China, it does last even 2 weeks. I had used it to lock my scooter barely 3 times, in shaded areas without any temperature extremes or physical abuse. Yet, I returned only to find the combination lock stuck, with no way to unlock no matter what I tried. Ultimately, had to search and borrowed a heavy duty cutter a mile away, & destroyed this flimsy product, in order to get my scooter unhooked. My advice: DON'T buy it if you don't want to get stuck like me. I don't think they even offer a warranty or replacement, but honestly I wouldn't take it unless a full refund is given. It's not worth being stuck a second time.

I was really excited about this lock when I first got it. Super lightweight. Great second lock to secure my other wheel. But I wish I had read the other reviews on this site before purchasing, because my experience was pretty much the same. After using for a couple of months, the unlock combination changed without me knowing. I had locked my bike up, and when I came back to unlock, my combination no longer worked. Luckily I was at a bike shop and was able to borrow some tools to cut it off. It wasn’t until I got home that I read about other people’s experiences and realized the unlock combination had changed.Kudos to MEC for exchanging it for me, but with this many bad reviews I'm surprised they still keep it stocked. I would definitely not recommend this lock ... MoreI was really excited about this lock when I first got it. Super lightweight. Great second lock to secure my other wheel. I was excited to find this (at REI in Scottsdale, AZ), as it seems the perfect lock to carry in your jersey pocket for when you stop at a coffee shop and may lose sight of your bike for a few instances. It worked the first time, but only then. When I tried to open the lock the next day to adjust the position for a better fit in my pocket, it would not budge, and it hasn't since. So on the basis of my experience, it's unreliable (which, again, is very unfortunate, because theoretically, this is the kind of thing any cyclist could use).
These are quite handy when not requiring great protection as they will easily be cut if a thief has any cutting implement with them. However, as a lightweight and handy piece of kit, it provides a visible deterrent against opportunist theft possibilities.I have attached mine around the saddlebag and seat rails, enabling easy transportation at the same time as helping to secure the saddlebag.
I'm frankly amazed that this product made it past a prototype. The combination wheels are marked in a 5 point typeface that is difficult to read at the best of times and impossible under poor light or (invariably) upside-down. The combination markings started wearing off after a few months, which introduced a thrilling element of mystery to unlocking my bike. This would be a bigger problem if actually knowing the combination was important (see below). The plastic cover cracked in a couple of places after several weeks of intermittent use - either friction or magic is still holding it on the metal cable, but I wouldn't be shocked if it came off with a sharp tug. As noted by others, the combination spontaneously changes itself. This happens so regularly I have given ... MoreI'm frankly amazed that this product made it past a prototype. Fortunately there's a noticeable 'click' when you chance upon the right tumbler position which makes it pretty simple to pick. On the plus side, I have used it for short cafe stops in an urban setting for over a year and I still have a bike.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I haven't had any of the problems in these reviews. This lock is super lightweight and has worked great for quick stops for coffee shops, etc. I'd obviously never use it for longer term locking. I'd agree that the numbers are a little small and hard to read, but the lock has yet to fail me and I've had it for probably a couple of years.
I bought a Z LOK COMBO to secure my helmet to my motorbike on a recent tour of Italy. The first time I used it was at Misano whilst I went to watch MotoGP. When I returned to my bike the lock would not open. I was convinced I had entered the correct code but, as I’d registered for code reminders, I emailed Hiplock and requested assistance. Sadly it was Saturday so all I got was an out of office reply.Thankfully I had a Gerber Multi-tool with me. The saw blade went through the lock strap within a few minutes. I’m glad it did but also disappointed. I received the emailed code reminder the following Tuesday.Upon emailing Hiplock I was quickly refunded.I’m impressed with Hiplock, impressed with my DX1000, but won’t replace the Z LOK COMBO like for like. The only ... Not much to talk aboutIts a quick ziptie to secure your helmet whilst you pop into a shop or something.I needed something quicker than the dial carabiner I had before - this is it, nice and simple. Just a stabby key to 'unlock' itWouldnt be hard to break but its something.
Lightweight, sturdy locking strap. Small, lightweight, portable. Can stuff into back pocket or attach round handlebars when not in use. Tiny discrete universal unlocking pin so not recommended for secure storage but great deterrent for daily ride use at Cafe stops, popping into shops when any lock is better than no lock.
