I loved this game so much! I’ll start by saying I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so I am biased here. As such, I already had my HP fan account with my house sorting and wand so I loved having the ability to link that! I’m not sure what happens. If you don’t have an account I’m guessing you have to take a quiz to get sorted by the hat, but I’ve never been able to find out since I did link my account. ļæ¼ I’ve completed about 99% of the game as a Slytherin and started a Hufflepuff file that I am currently playingļæ¼. Some of the spell combos are sick and when you learn tricks to defeat certain enemies, things become a lot easier. Leveling up, using strong clothing, and smart spending of talent points let’s you just wreck people in duels and is the key to success in this game. I highly recommend learning all of the potions early on and unlocking floo flames for faster travel. The storyline is engaging (set in the 1800s) and there’s something just so cool about the magical wizarding world. The game itself is beautiful and artistic. Once you’re done with the main storyline there are plenty of side quests, so it takes a while to actually get through all of the content packed into this game, definitely making it worth its value. ļæ¼I’ve just had so much fun with it and highly recommend playing it yourself!

40 hours in and still loving it.

To start, I've been a fan since the first two movies and then started reading the books. What I liked right from the start is you don't need to know anything really from the books or any of the movies to enjoy the game. I can't give a great take on the story since i haven’t finished, but between the main story and a couple of the side stories with other students I'm engaged and want to see it thelrough to the end. Hogwarts and Hogsmeade look great, and were fun to explore. Gameplay is generally solid with a couple minor gripes here and there, switching spell sets on the fly has gotten me a couple of times. The block/parry/dodge system is easy to learn, but targeting could use a bit of polish. The block/parry/dodge system is easy to learn, but targeting could use a bit of polish. I love flying around in the broom, the beast mounts are cool but the broom is still the best. Learning spells has been fun and the classes remind me a bit of how they are in the Persona series, you wont have a scene in one every day, but there are set ones you will see or participate in when you reach set goals. Inventory/item management is easy to do and i really like the outfit management, you can set appearance for each item of clothing based on what items you've collected. In other words, if you like the look of a particular hat but you just got an ugly one with better stats you can put the new one on and set the appearance to the one you like. What didn't i like? House selections could have been a bit more fleshed out, if you did the wizarding world quiz to feed into the game the scene is quick, if you didn't the scene apparently isn't much longer. Next issue, there's a night day cycle but rarely are there consequences for being out at night or somewhere you shouldn't unless the quest dictates you have to stay hidden. You're in a boarding school, why isn't there some kind of restriction. This could have added a bit more excitement to exploring. Some minor audio issues, in particular with owl notices being read, the voice track sometimes dips ehile everything else is the same level. It is a bug, you can reload and the same dialog will be back to normal. Student character models do have variance but alot of the facial features and expressions seemed to have a bit of "samey" feeling to them. Another issue is there was noticeable screen tear and pop in. The pop in usually gets triggered when flying and you'll see some details magically appear or block outlines in the sky suddenly blend in with the rest. The tearing only really occurred going up/down long flight of stairs. Annoying but not game breaking. Overall im enjoying my time with game and would recommend it to fans and non-fans who just want a fun action rpg.

Avada Kedavra Hogwarts Legacy

10 out of 10! I am sure you have heard that this is the Harry Potter game you have been waiting for! But its actually the Hogwarts game we all have been waiting for, as this game takes place about 100 years before the HP stories. I instantly fell in love with this game! Its an open world but just the accuracy of Hogwarts Castle and grounds is astonishing. I am 25 hours in and still have not found all the secrets in the Castle alone. Thats not counting Hogsmead and the entire open map that there is! The story is great because its something new and because you build your own character, it makes it that much more immersive. They actually help you level up and the story gets even more immersive with them. So dont skip them and just do the main story or YOU WILL miss out on some really cool stuff in the game (like the Dark arts!) no spoilers but if you are a fan or not, this game will go down as one of the greats for years to come.

Beautiful game..but VERY repetitive
21 February 2023

Overall this is a very fun game, and pretty much what you'd want from a game in the Harry Potter world. While it seems huge, you learn pretty fast that it's really, really repetitive. The first few hours are an absolute blast for wizarding world nerds like myself. You can import your information from the wizarding world website if you have an account there and have done all the various quizzes, sorting, etc, so that's cool. You also don't have to do that at all if you don't wish to, or you can do both since you can have multiple characters, and each house has its own 'beginning' story, though eventually every house's starting quest will dovetail into the same quest. You also don't have to do that at all if you don't wish to, or you can do both since you can have multiple characters, and each house has its own 'beginning' story, though eventually every house's starting quest will dovetail into the same quest. I've still only played one character, so no idea if there are other unique quests for each house.Hogwarts itself is, in a word, stunning. I spent the first several hours just running around exploring the various areas I had access to (which is quite a lot, even when first starting). There are lots of interesting areas and cool little details throughout Hogwarts, and the humor present in the books is here and there throughout Hogwarts, both in conversations you'll overhear, or just funny details about some of the displays (my favorite joke involves the "house elf armor").The basics of the 'storyline' are that you are a new student but will be starting as a '5th year' due to your age, so you're given a field guide to Hogwarts so you can catch up with the students that started as first years. The only problem is that, due to a mishap, it's missing a lot of pages. Not to worry though, they can be found while exploring the world, with the vast majority of missing pages to be found in Hogwarts itself. Here's one small issue I had--some of the field guide pages are fantastic and describe an aspect of the school or world in interesting, and sometimes very funny, detail. Buuuuut....some of them are just blank pages, so you're collecting them as something to fill time, rather than enrich the world. There are HUNDREDS of them, too, but less than half have any kind of text to them. That's a lot of time filler, and it starts to feel like a chore rather than the fun of reading the descriptions. I'd have much preferred if they'd just cut down the number and left only the ones that add to the game. This is my biggest issue with the game overall (though there are other issues I'll get to)-- on the surface it seems like there's a lot to do, but almost all of it ends up feeling very repetitive. There are a handful of different enemy models, and then everything you fight is basically higher-level versions of those same models. Many games use this type of system, but the lack of variety becomes very noticeable after a while throughout almost every aspect of the game.Magic combat is fun, but does get a little complicated with having to swap spells out all the time depending on the situation or enemies you're fighting. The game mitigates this with spell wheels that allow you to set up a few different quick spell slots--- if you put your talent points (pretty standard system where talent points are earned as you level up) towards that talent. You probably will out of sheer frustration the 10th time you forgot to add the invisibility spell and ended up casting a light spell instead...and the fact that there simply aren't a lot of "useful" talents available. A couple are absolutely must haves, the rest are 'meh'--maybe they improve the damage, but it's hard to tell for sure due to the way combat works.Combat is interesting and maybe the most immersion breaking thing in the game. I'm halfway through my first year at Hogwarts and I'm taking out wave after wave of bad guys without even breaking much of a sweat. Granted, some of this is due to the video game standard 'chosen one who can wield great power!!!' aspect of the storyline. The rest seems to be just a matter of bad scaling and enemy AI. I feel like dogs or certain enemies (scouts, etc) should be able to detect me more easily when I'm invisible (also pretty standard in games with stealth aspects), but really it almost feels random--certainly any enemy when turned directly towards me seems able to eventually detect me, but I haven't noticed any one creature being better at it than another. The absolute most 'world-breaking' thing in the game is the inclusion of 'curses'--supposedly banned and, from what many NPCs say, are a huge deal if you cast them. Then the game teaches them to you (not a spoiler as they're present on your spell bar almost immediately, just 'greyed out' if you haven't learned them yet) and you can use them on any enemy you choose and --while certain enemies will yell about you using them--the game, school, teachers, etc., don't even mention your use of them, even when you use them in front of other students or teachers.Even though this is, ostensibly, an RPG set in the Wizarding World, your decisions (such as using curses) don't really seem to affect anything. There are 'rude' choices in dialogue, but even those don't seem to affect outcomes much--other than if you decide to keep a fetched quest item rather than give it back to the person requesting it, then you get to keep it. They grumble, but there's no 'reputation' to worry about at all and even the person whose item you kept acts like nothing happened after the quest is complete. That lack of affecting things with your choices is a very odd decision, considering the books and movies absolutely revolve around the decisions characters make as the story unfolds (Draco’s story perhaps being the best example, for those of you familiar with the books). In this game you're along for the ride, but the story's going to play out the predetermined way no matter what you do.The game itself plays impressively well, with very few bugs I've seen. The one I have notices are mostly weird visual glitches, but occasionally you'll have something bigger (one teacher I needed to turn a quest into was not under her 'dialogue square'--this one was common enough that I found a work around online)--I've had one 'crash' in 50+ hours of gameplay to this point.Since it is very much an 'open world' RPG --particularly once you get your broom very early in the game--there are annoyances that come with that aspect present everywhere--you'll 'out run' quests and discover quest items before you have any idea what they're for-but the game does helpfully put them in your 'quest item' inventory, so at least you'll know that you will need it for something to come later. Aspects like this make that freedom as much of a curse as it is exhilarating.Aside from the combat aspect there are a few other things that seem off balance the longer you play. There are times when there is far too little guidance about what to do. Treasure maps are sort of cool, but almost seem like an after-thought as there’s very little guidance, and if you don’t immediately recognize an area then you may or may not find it later—if you even remember you have the map, and the quest doesn’t get ā€˜lost’ in your list of quests. Other times when the game takes you by the hand and tells you exactly what to do. Hints about obvious things seem abundant, and then you'll find yourself looking around for even the smallest clue about what you should do to complete a task, or even HOW to go about completing a task that characters are mentioning like you've known how to do it for a long time. The dialogue seems plentiful for about an hour, then you'll start to notice phrases that sound familiar. At 20 hours or so you will absolutely want to murder the floo powder lady, or at least start praying for a patch that gives you the option to shut her up. When they only recorded four or five phrases for her (AT MOST) it's really kind of odd that they decided to have her say something every single time you're within 20 feet of her many travel points. The same thing happens with the many, MANY vaults or ruins in the game. Your character has ā€˜trigger’ phrases that they’re obviously supposed to say whenever they get within range of certain points…but there are only maybe two or three (you’ll be saying ā€œdoes it get any more cozy than Hogsmeade?ā€ in your sleep) and you say them EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.The game is gorgeous whether it's day or night, you're inside or outside and in Hogswart, Hogsmeade or anywhere else on the massive map. Even on the high detail settings on the PS5 it's been incredibly smooth. Lots of enemies, huge battles, etc, led to no noticeable game performance issues , so well done there!Again, it's essentially an RPG set in the wizarding world (which, great!) but unfortunately the story doesn't make a ton of sense--at it’s core it’s an extremely basic and rote ā€˜for some reason you’re super-powerful’ storyline that most every RPG has in some form or other (and is the usual explanation for why you can murder thousands of people while barely taking a scratch), but as a Wizarding World story it’s just not a great fit—unless, of course, you’re not familiar with HP or the WW and then it will just feel like more standard RPG that needs balancing.Overall I absolutely loved this game the first few hours of running around and exploring, and that’s a real testament to the game design….but unfortunately it’s actually gotten a little boring now and feels a lot like I’m ā€˜checking off boxes’ to clear out the map (think Far Cry or similar open world game) with things that, unfortunately, aren’t all that interesting to clear. This was way longer than I intended it be when starting, so a quick summary for any of you tl;dr people:It’s beautiful, mostly bug free, and lots of fun to explore for Wizarding World fans…for a while, but can quickly become tedious as nearly everything in the game is repeated ad nauseum throughout.

Best Buy Came Through!
9 February 2023

Best Buy actually mailed my preorder of the Deluxe Edition via overnight UPS (for free) on Feb 6th and arrived to me, across the country, with my 3 days of early access in tact, on Feb 7th. No in-store pickup needed! Thank you Best Buy!To be fair, when I was preordering, BB was the only online store left with preorder stock on Jan 21st. I think the people claiming they ordered over a month in advance are exaggerating, or I just got super lucky. But I know about a week before launch, the site was glitching for people trying to preorder. They went to the page and it said "Coming Soon," (meaning out of stock) but if they refreshed the page it would allow them to purchase. Part technical error, part waiting too long to order. All preorder and Deluxe content came in ...Ā MoreBest Buy actually mailed my preorder of the Deluxe Edition via overnight UPS (for free) on Feb 6th and arrived to me, across the country, with my 3 days of early access in tact, on Feb 7th. They went to the page and it said "Coming Soon," (meaning out of stock) but if they refreshed the page it would allow them to purchase. Part technical error, part waiting too long to order. All preorder and Deluxe content came in the game box, nothing emailed. As for the game... I LOVE IT! I've been waiting for a proper AAA Harry Potter type game for decades and nothing was going to stop me from playing it. Every aspect of the game done with such attention to detail and great controls. It feels like the developers wanted this game as bad as the fans did.The PS5 controller really brings the game to life as well. I usually get 3rd party games on my Series X, but this game was made for the PS5.It's hard to talk about the game without spoiling anything. You really get the sense you're creating your own story in the HP universe. There are so many side activities beyond the main story, and the replay value is extremely high here. Even completing quests that would otherwise feel like filler, fetch quests in other games, are fun to do. And choosing what activities you want to do further makes each playthrough unique. The castle and grounds are pretty big. The characters you'll meet along the way are vast. Definitely a satisfying scratch to the itch I've had to play a game like this.I know it's been said many times, but this is BY FAR the best adaptation in game form that MANY people have been waiting too long for.The game is not perfect... yet. There are bugs, slow down, slight loading screens that feel out of place, and pop in. Nothing to bad that crashed my game, but things that should hopefully be ironed out soon. The game is also around 80GB's. So make sure you have the storage. As for the controversy surrounding the game... We're gamers and nobody should feel bad about playing a GAME. The developers made sure it was made with everyone in mind and the work that clearly went into this game to make it what it is, is astonishing.I hope everyone gets their order problems fixed soon, and I 100% recommend this game to those that can appreciate it!

Hogwarts Agenda Legacy

I don't buy any and every game that comes out because I am first off very particular about what I like. Second, I am a casual gamer because of my busy schedule, but will make time for gaming only when it is on epic stories and worlds, such as Harry Potter...what's even better?...open world Harry Potter universe. What is even better than that?...my whole family LOVES Harry Potter and we were going to play through it together. I have been looking forward to this game for YEARS because this universe is so dear to my family and I.But where my 1 star review comes into play is when the studio decided to placate to the woke mob and inject inclusivity agenda into a kids game. I cannot believe that this is becoming the norm and what is funny is that the agenda group/mob attacking the creator of this world got what they wanted, despite her not having any say, and IT IS STILL not good enough because they do not like the name of said character. WHY? Because it will NEVER be good enough. Can we PLEASE go back to neutrality in games and movies so I don't have to keep explaining to my very confused 6 year old why this world is so confused on what they are.

Ignore the haters. This game is a masterpiece

This game is amazing on numerous levels. It’s graphic detail is rich and complex, making the world around you awe inspiring, alive, and constantly in motion. At night, when outdoor lanterns are lit, moths flutter around the dancing flames. Characters are well acted with great detail given to backstory and ongoing development. The audio is equally detailed and fully executed. Don’t hesitate to buy this game. Be sure to take your time and explore the side missions and hunt for treasure. Magical, amazing, immersive

I was always excited about this game, especially when i first heard it leaked years ago. I knew it was going to be good. The combat is challenging but fun, the potions and combat plants are strategic, you get to use spells to solve puzzles, and best part is you can explore hogwarts, hogsmead, and beyond on foot, on a flying broom, or a flying mount. The flying handling is really good. You get to cast iconic spells from charms to unforgiveable curses. There are a ton of collectables. My only complaints would be that the game does not have quidditch, the choices you made and the dialogue options you select dont really matter in the story, the gear system is not very exciting and too simple, there is no morality system or notoriety sysyem even if your character runs ...Ā MoreI was always excited about this game, especially when i first heard it leaked years ago. My only complaints would be that the game does not have quidditch, the choices you made and the dialogue options you select dont really matter in the story, the gear system is not very exciting and too simple, there is no morality system or notoriety sysyem even if your character runs around casting unforgivable curses like mad man. Its like they traded all of that for a big world with lots of collectibles. The developers seemed to decide to focus on those things and ditched certain ideas such as quidditch. They also wanted the game to be family friendly. They did not want to cram too much in. The story is good but it seams they fluffed it up and limited how evil you can be. The unforgivable curses are there to use but they dont feel like evil curses, they feel like any other spell but more powerful. But thats ok i guess, the books and films are meant for children. They were probably aiming to keep it rated T for teen. There are moments where your companion might say something about you casting dark magic. But after playing through the game once, i feel like i got the full experience. They do offer 1 quest that is different for each house and occasionally someone in the dialogue in the game mentions what house you are on, but i do not think i would be missing out from much if i did not play it a second time. They could have done more like giving more player agency, more options to players only when they are in a specific house. Overall this game was solid though, they did a great job with it. Just walking through the castle and visiting hogsmead and exploring the open world on broom felt so right. The quests are also great too, the side quests are also immersive, you can brew potions, grow and harvest plants, rescue magical beasts as well as breed, feed, and take care of those beasts for resources. The lore does not perfectly align with the wizarding world, but that is ok, they usually have to do that to make it more video game friendly. Some lore is better for books than for games. If youre a harry potter fan its a must. If youre a video game fan it is also a must. The game is not a hard core RPG or anything, there are no stats, traits, or player agency but its worth the time and money. I hope they make more games like this!!i i think they could have done quidditch with this game engine so i kind of hope they do a dlc or a new game with it.

You attend classes as part of the story and get to pick your house. Fans of the books and movies will recognize many locations and even some characters! The combat is fun and fluid, you learn a lot of spells and get to choose your own strategy for taking out enemies. The story, set in the late 1800's, is very mediocre and hardly had any interesting characters. The set pieces and graphics help in this regard though. If they had asked JK Rowling to write a unique tale for the game it would have benefited it a lot. The gear system tends to get annoying but lets you make your character look how you want so it's not so bad. A solid game which I can see becoming a new gaming franchise!
