This is a little adjustment to my previous review. After a few more years of playing Pro Harps, I would like to add that these harps are at their best in the lower keys. Though they are not the most responsive Hohner product out there, I'll take one of these for the sound! Response, however, can be improved: Aftermarket comb! A decent custom comb will transform this harp, very noticeably improving response and general playability without sacrificing the sound we buy Pro Harps for.

Hohner does not give enough information about their different harps. Neither does any of the other brands. I am leaning towards Seydel. How do you know if it has the sound that you want ? If it does not sound right then buy another one ? They need a more descriptive vocabulary and terminology. For example there are several DIFFERENT models described as a blues harmonica? Ok if one is a blues harmonica WHY do they make the other 4 models?

Love the sound, have a G needed a C, glad I bought this one. Love hohner harmonicas. Especially those made in Germany. Those from china only good for beginners.
I recently started playing Harp buying a 5 pack of these with the case.I also purchased a bunch of- Marine band (Natural Minor)- Lee Oscar (s) (Diatonic and Natural Minor)- one Souls' voice (looks and sound like a Lee Oscar)- one Seydel Blues Solist Pro. Plastic sounds too clean and does not add as much harmonics as these wood combs. Note that I don't play with the same harmonica for hours, so the comb doesn't swell as much as it does for busy blues players.Forget about changing the reeds. The MS series is easier to open and reassemble, but the reeds are hard to find and expensive.Anyway I mainly accompany myself with the harmonica while playing acoustic guitar, and when I'm big enough, I will play blues with it.I thought as a good bass player and a decent guitar player that harmonica would be the easiest thing in the world. Sheesh! I now stand corrected. But it's a lot of fun to learn such a vibrant instrument.I'm now completing my 12 keys collection of Hohner Blues Harp MS.
The blues harp is the standard. It's easy to bend low and high notes. Very durable. A VP professional instrument that can be purchased in a set of I think eight keys.These three blues harp (in C) harmonicas were purchased and sent to the Kentucky Tornado Relief -,collecting new and used musical instruments. It is on going through the end of this month (January 2022) and next.If my entry wins please send the check to the Kentucky tornado relief. Musicians instruments were literally blown away.
I go the A blues harp about a week ago and I just can't put it down!! To start off with the blues harp has a great tone with it's wooden comb and brass reeds. The notes are very bendable right out of the box and the harp feels really good in the hand. The blues harp also has a really good weight in my opinion, meaning that it doesn't feel that you are holding a cheap harmonica. The tone is warm and inviting and I can see why this harmonica is perfect for the blues. Now there are some negatives to every harmonica and I would have to say that the harp is not the most airtight harmonica ever but I think that it just adds to the warm tone while still going ham on a solo at a gig. If you play a rack like Jimmy Reed or Bob Dylan having the Godlen Melody for your favorite key is a real help.I play mainly cross harp and therefore use the A for songs in E. I play in E more than other keys but I do play in many other keys. One of the dangers in playing rack harp is using the wrong harp. It is hard for me to look down at the rack and tell which hamronica is there UNLESS the color differs at the holes. The Golden Melody is red and most others are black. Therefore I use the Golden Melody exclusively for the key of A or cross harp E. Then I can look down and know that it is the right one for the key of E because it is red instead of black at the holes. I've been playing the harmonica for about 40 years now and was excited to play the golden melody again after 20 years or so. ( I was in the National Hohner Harmonica contest Richmond Va. 1987 ) Currently playing marine bands I saw a clip of someone playing the golden melody on you tube and I remember liking that harp back when. It's definitely made for my style of playing. I also like plastic over wood and it looks cool. I recently bought a set and was so disappointed. Every harp had an issue. Very weak draw notes on the 3-4-5. I was like a kid on Xmas morning so exited to open the box and find defects in all of them.
I'm a beginner but have tried several different brands of harmonicas. I have also done reed adjustments on my harmonicas with good success in getting them to play better.With that said, I really like the feel and clear tone of the Golden Melody. It does have a brighter sound compared to my other harps, but this is a personal preference so you would have to judge for yourself. I bought just a C harp to see if I like the GM and am now thinking about purchasing the full range of keys.Compared to the harps I've purchased so far, the GM was the easiest to play out of the box for bending and the notes were all the closest in tune. I also like how the cover plates seal the sides and have a center back support built in.I would recommend the GM. Very nice instrument.
