I wanted to like these shoes and while I don't mind the large platform, they literally looked like big bird shoes. Even though I didn't order specifically white shoes, the front portion of the shoes are very wide, water than they seem to need to be. I like the idea that there would be stability as well as cushion, but Hokas of these days still do not feel is cushiony as they did several years ago.

OK. I know this isn't the Bondi X but since I don't see they sell them now and another person complained of the same issue for these shoes, I'm writing the review here. Every single Bondi X, the inside upper at the heel end just SHREDS within a few months. I've put up with it before but getting tired of paying 200+ for a pair of shoes where this happens within months of wearing. The rest of the shoe is fine although one pair of X's got a hole since fabric so thin. I decided to return this through their warranty. I don't know what other Hoka to get since I do LOVE the X's cushion and have tried Clifron and the regular Bondis but not as great or don't like the looks. What is being done to address this issue? Why can't we post pictures in review to show others?

My podiatrist recommended that I get a shoe with extra cushion. I have worn the Bondi 7 and 8's for a couple of years now and love them. I do have high arches and the Bondi's feel good but I thought I would try the Graviota for the structure described in that shoe. I never could wear the Graviota 4's and I decided to try the 5's since the description said it was "PLUSH" cushioning. I tried on the Graviota 5 and they almost felt like they had no cushioning compared to the Bondi's. I returned them the next day and am in the process of exchanging them for another pair of Bondi 8's. I am sure they are comfortable for certain types of feet, but not mine. The shoe bed feels hard when compared to the Bondi even though they both say "PLUSH". Also, it seems that the ... MoreMy podiatrist recommended that I get a shoe with extra cushion. The shoe bed feels hard when compared to the Bondi even though they both say "PLUSH". Also, it seems that the elevation of the heel to toe is different in the two shoes. My foot feels flatter in the Graviota vs the Bondi and that causes my heel to start hurting after awhile. I will just stick with the Bondis as they are extremely comfortable to me. I have had people tell me not to wear cushioned shoes as they are not stable, but my Bondi 7 and 8s are very stable to me and are super comfortable.

I'm a dog walker so I walk a LOT. Both of my ankles have been rolled at one point or another over the last few years. I have bunions so I was looking for something wide, cushioned, and with lots of stability. These are VERY stable - I've been wearing them for a week now and they have already saved me from an ankle roll. They are also VERY wide which is great for my bunions, however they kind of resemble duck bills 😂. I wish I ordered a half-size smaller than my normal size because I have lots of toe room. That's probably just due to my wacky foot shape. I'm thinking about using orthotics with them. I'll definitely be keeping them and I'm interested to see how long they last.
Heaven sent! I just switched to the Gaviota 5 instead of wearing the Hoka Bondi 8. I am a chronic pain patient and the Hoka 7's gave me back a wonderful quality of life allowing me to walk and be active, again. The Hoka 8's unfortunately are not for me. I had pain radiating up my legs and my feet felt so heavy so I could wear these maybe for a church service but not for walking all day.If you are having problems switching from the 7's to the 8's it is more than likely because the 8's weigh almost 2 oz more and there is a difference in the heel part.A Hoka rep is the one who suggested the Gaviota 5. I am so grateful for them. I feel like I am back in a pair of 7's! My legs, feet and hips do not hurt and I feel like I am walking on a cloud once again as I travel ... MoreHeaven sent! Here's the truth on the new Gaviota 5.I've worn the Bondi 7, Bondi 8 and the Gaviota 4. Tried the Clifton 9 but they just felt like a Bondi 8 little brother - not much cushion in the fore-foot.I have bad knees - multiple surgeries/injuries due to sports throughout my life, a bad back and degenerating neck. The Gaviota 5's are absolutely Hoka's MOST cushioned and supportive shoe! Even my Bondi 8's come in 2nd place to them. I'm on my feet and doing a lot of walking all day. With the Gaviota 5's I can get more accomplished and still feel decent at the end of the day!Saying that - be careful when buying. I normally wear a wide in other sports shoes, including both the Bondi's and the Gaviota 4. I normally wear a wide in other sports shoes, including both the Bondi's and the Gaviota 4. With the Gaviota 5, I'm wearing a normal width and there's still plenty of space in the toe box. In fact, I could have easily dropped down a half size and still been fine. The other issue is the tongue. It has elastic on the inside part only, so the tongue always rides to the inside. Not really uncomfortable, just annoying.Still, the Gaviota 5's are a big win!
A have very difficult feet to fit. As I age I my forefoot seems to just get wider and wider, while my heels are extremely narrow. I also have very large feet - a women's 12W. In addition, I have neuropathy. The neuropathy makes it difficult for me to feel ground changes, it also requires a shoe with a lot of stabilazion. Earlier this summer, I tore my Achilles tendons and I am still having a lot of pain from this. I tore the tendons walking in Gaviota 4. Until now, these shoes were my favorite shoe. I loved them because they had a wide toe box. I reordered them in the Gaviota 5. The 5 had change from the older 4. Unfortunately, there was not enough support in the shoes and I found the that there was problem with pronation. I also ordered the Clark 5. The Clarks were ... MoreA have very difficult feet to fit. My podiatrist recommended a shoe that had a 10 -12 mm heel to toe drop for Achilles tendonitis. I wish Hoka offered shoes with higher heel to toe ratios. Please Hoka give advice regarding which shoe is best for certain common conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, etc. HOKA shoe are expensive and for the price there should be an attempt made to help those of us with difficult feet. I would also love more styles in wide. I also wish Hoka would make strictly WALKING shoes in extended sizes. The biomechanics between walking and running are completely different.
I use this product for walking and I was wearing the 4's prior to purchasing the 5's. I need a stable shoe and both versions are good for my flat feet. I love a lot of the updates made to the new 5's . The H design, upper and cushioning are improments that I appreciate. While I thought the 4 to be a little narrow in the toe , this version is too wide- it feels more like I am wearing a wide shoe. I sized down 1/2 size and that helped a bit but the shoe is still very wide. I know it was to be more like the Bondi , however my Bondi do not fit like this. My hope is that next year some modifications will be made. This updated version has come a long way and it just needs a bit of refinement.
Omg! I can't say enough good things about these shoes! They are truly comfortable for all day wear and my feet no longer hurt at the end of the day. I have rather pronounced bunions on both feet and mildly flat arches, so I must have a wide toe box and arch support and these shoes are prefect. I also had a scan done of my feet/stance in a shoe store that sells Hokas and they suggested a pair of insoles to correct some issues. The insoles actually fit in these shoes and the combination is amazing for my feet! I was skeptical at first about the price but now that I've been wearing the shoes everyday for the last couple weeks I have no regrets about the price! You can't put a price on being pain free! (IYKYK) If you have chronic foot pain like I do then you have to ... MoreOmg! I can't say enough good things about these shoes! I work 12-13 hour shifts on my feet, moving almost all day and have worn nothing but Hoka Bondi since 2019. My feet love Hoka Bondi. However, I wanted more stability than the Bondi is designed to offer. My knees and ankles need more stability, but I was afraid of giving up the comfort of the Bondi. No need to fear! Wore the Gaviota 5 to work, but took my Bondi's as backup and my feet, knees and ankles love the Gaviota 5!Yes, the Gaviota is a bit less cushy than the Bondi, but I was able to wear them for consecutive shifts and my feet feel great. The shoe puts my weight on my heels and gives me the stability I need. There is also the addition of a bit of arch support.I've found my new work shoe as long as Hoka keeps the Gaviota as is.Thank you!!!
