Awesome for the Spartan Beast Race
I usually wore Inov-8 trail running shoes for my Spartan races, but I needed something with MORE support. These Mafate exceeded my expectations. Super comfortable during 13 miles of running. It handled the rocky terrain well. Never slipped. Had to walk thru water and run after and the shoe did not soak up the water. Shoes still felt super light unlike others that feel like bricks. Also handled the mud well without losing grip. Best trail running shoes ever!... Show more

Beautiful shoe but way too narrow for a normal siz
I really wanted to love this shoe because it's a beautifully designed shoe and love all of its features. I was going to use these primarily for more aggressive hikes. The toe box however is way too narrow and my pinky on my right foot gets squished. I wore them around the house for a day and started getting a blister on my toe. I will be returning these unfortunately. I'm usually a size regular in terms of shoe width and previously wore the Torrent 2 (which I loved!) with no problem. So not sure if this shoe is more narrow than the average… Hope they come out with a wide version!!Hi... Show more

Best shoe EVER!!!!
I love the comfort of this shoe. I have not been able to walk my miles in them yet. But the comfort is there. The style of this shoe is great and the color is off the chain. I've worn them to physical therapy and I can't tell you the compliments I've received. My only thing is it's alittle pricey. So far I've bought 2 prs of HOKA and you have no discount or maybe come up with HOKA Bucks $350/$400 for 2 pair of shoes... Show more

So I will start out by saying that I did not use them specifically for what they were designed for. I took mine out yesterday in 7 inches of glorious new fallen snow in my neighborhood. Now underneath said snow was a very uneven sidewalk and I also ran partially on the street. These shoes rock. I felt very secure running in them. They were extremely light, and my feet stayed dr even with out gtx . The profly+ is great under foot. Very soft and responsive. I also could feel my heal securely seated in the shoe. Loved it. Can't wait to get them I. The environment they were intended for... Show more

Grip is great, but lace holes split after 100mi
I was super excited about the vibram lugs on this beautiful shoe, and I managed to get one good backpacking trip in with this shoe, along with a few hikes. great grip, great feeling of propulsion on the trail. I also love the super breathable knit build of the body of the shoe. It dries super quickly when wet.My issue with this shoe is that the lace hole just broke when i was going to tie them one day, not long after getting them. I had them less than 3 weeks, only saw 75 miles of trails with some additional urban walking.... Show more

Life is awesome with Hoka
So this was my second pair, as I bought two at the same time and found both to run a half size big. I ended up with a 5.5's and I'm pretty true to size. They fit phenomenal now and I use them at the gym with my trainer, even when I'm not running these have been great weightlifting and pivoting. The design and boldness is awesome and I keep getting a lot of compliments on them. I would have to say I absolutely love the stability they provide. I really went for these mainly for the look...success in every aspect. 😄🤘... Show more

Love these!
Bought these for a trip abroad to Scotland and Ireland and absolutely loved them. They had enough traction to support the walks in the nature parks and trails, but also extremely comfortable for walking the streets and taking in the sights. They are also very light for such a supportive shoe which was a huge bonus when trying to keep suitcase under weight limit ☺️. Highly recommend these for anyone who likes to hike, trail run, or just wants the extra traction. Do not recommend wearing on the treadmill due to the extra grip. I did this to test them before going outside just in case and they were very "tacky" to the tread. I used the true size recommender tool and ordered a half size smaller than I normally wear and they fit perfectly.... Show more

Mafate Speed 4 is a game changer
I've been a pavement pounder for most of my life but the mountains started calling a handful of years ago. I've tried various trail shoes and they've done the job & done it well, but none of them had me this excited. I signed up for a few longer races this year that had pretty significant vert gain, so went to researching what was out there & getting some attention, coming across these I took the plunge, never have owning a pair of Hoka's prior. First trip out was a 12 miler with 4500 ft of gain; they pulled me up the mtn, stuck to the trail like glue coming down - like hardly any slip...at all, stable footbed, and the cushion was great on the super boney parts. I have a wide foot, bunions and all, and these fit great. Some had suggested going up a size, but I ... These shoes are aggressive, but light weight. I'm a believer & have told everyone I know to buy them!... Show more

Soles are not durable
After about three weeks of use in the NM Sandias, both soles split under the ball of the foot. As with the Stinsons, the soles are not durable. I figured since these were Vibram soles, that they would hold up. They did not. I cannot understand how Hoka gets the ratings they do. While very comfortable, the soles of these shoes are very poor quality and are not worth anywhere near the price point they are getting. If you are looking for a trail hiking/running shoe, look for a different brand. Hokas are disposable shoes. REI customer serivce was great (as always) on the return. I still own two pairs of Hokas and have owned 5 pairs overall. I so wanted Hokas to work for me but, after this latest experience, I will never buy another pair. Hoka needs to have a "quality" ... Hoka needs to have a "quality" reboot on their products. Now, I'm trying the Sportiva Bushido (a very different shoe) and am super happy with them. BTW, I have several acquaintances with Hoka shoes and all of them are having some level of sole disintegration. Needless to say, the disappointment level is high.... Show more

Wanted to love these but quality was a let down
First run felt amazing. Very soft, comfortable and yet also responsive. Excellent traction too. Unfortunately one of the lacing eyelets broke when I was tying them up for a second run. Top eyelets seem pretty flimsy one the shoe and I've seen this same issue in other reviews. Too bad because overall I really loved this shoe but had to return due to this issue.... Show more
