My first pair of Hoka’s were the Bondi 8 which I bought before the end of the outdoor running season for me in 2022. I put well over 600 miles on the Bondi 8’s with probably 400 from a treadmill. My feet and legs love the Bondi 8 for their plush cushioning and stable wide forefoot and heel.I picked up the Clifton 9 to add to the rotation with a new pair of Bondi 8’s. I wear a 10.5 2E US and the Clifton 9 runs true to fit. A majority of my outdoor runs are on concrete sidewalks around my neighborhood which I know is harder on the outsole of any shoe. That said, I put the Clifton 9’s into the rotation on July 3rd and as of the end of November I had about 280 miles on them. Additionally, the cushioning in the Clifton 9 has seemed to be breaking down at a faster rate. I would go as far as to say that my first pair of Bondi 8’s feel like they still have more cushioning than the Clifton’s do. They are a good shoe but have some shortcoming's, primarily the durability as noted in the title.I had not been tracking every mile on my first pair of Hoka’s but when I got my second pair of Bondi 8’s I started just to see what kind of mileage I was getting from my shoes given their cost. I bought the Clifton 8, 2 years ago, and just purchased my second pair of Clifton 9s in Nimbus cloud color way. I bought my first Clifton 9 last summer and have enjoyed the cushion and support for my medium width foot with narrow heels and high arches. I love that you can lace them to slip your foot into them without untying them. the Nimbus Cloud color way is such a beautiful light gray with silver accents and I like the contrast of the dark brown gum traction on the bottom. Loving that Hoka is giving more options in neutrals that still have interesting contrasting details that gives the shoe a beautiful, yet subtle aesthetic. Will go well with the different team colors when I support my college athlete in maroon and my high school athletes who wear purple. Asics give great cusion, like Hoka, but Hoka wins out with their color combos by a long shot. Good shoe - but hot

This is my second pair of Hoka running shoes. As I was with the first pair, I am impressed by the quality of construction and materials. This is an extremely well-made, high-quality shoe.My first pair of Hokas was the Mach X, and those shoes are buttery soft for speed workouts. I had hoped that the Clifton 9s would be equally as soft, if not as responsive. To my surprise, the Cliftons are not nearly as soft. This isn't a bad thing, it just wasn't my expectation. The forward roll is perhaps a bit too aggressive for my taste, so although the shoe itself is great, this was the wrong model choice for me. Not for nothing, Hoka's shoe finder *did not* recommend these to me. Perhaps I should have listened to the shoe finder. At any rate, these shoes are not a dud. I got them to replace Nike Pegasus shoes, and I think they are better than those. The feel is actually similar, just a bit more cushioning in the Cliftons. They feel better for long runs and easy runs. For fast workouts, I'm already hooked on the Mach X. If you want a basic, neutral, well-built running shoe for everyday runs, Clifton 9 is a good choice.

Great shoes but will depend on the wearer
21 July 2024

I have purchased two pairs. One for me , the other for my daughter. These are very comfortable super cushioning and a delight to wear. Something about me as the wearer: have a history of lower back problems including a lower disc bulge and have only just started to slow running in addition to strength training. This shoe has been amazing for short slow runs. I don’t wear them for long periods of time (like walking around in on a Saturday ) . I don’t strength train in these shoes. However, over the last couple months I have found that my feet tend to fall inwards when I run (like with someone who has overpronated feet). I don’t have overpronated feet so not sure what’s happening here. For my daughter , her biggest issue is they don’t last long (the soles were rubbed ... MoreI have purchased two pairs. I don’t have overpronated feet so not sure what’s happening here. For my daughter , her biggest issue is they don’t last long (the soles were rubbed smooth within 3months). However, she wore them more frequently (she’s a uni student) running from classes to class, she wore them on the treadmill and on other road runs and she has flat feet and tends to ‘drag her feet’ which I imagine contributed to the short shelf life of the shoe. They are expensive shoes, they are super comfortable but it will all depend on what you use them for, your own walking/running style and of course your dollar situation. Personally, I think that cost this much should last longer.

Most comfortable!

To give you background, I bought these shoes because I have heard so much about their comfort. As a runner, I run between 6-8 miles every single day, and I need shoes that help my feet withstand the pounding on hard street concrete and pavement. I have had different brand name running shoes, but I have always had to wear extra padding because I have Morton’s neuroma in both feet (inflammation of nerves between toes), inside my shoes. Here is my review of Hoka Clifton 9, as a first time buyer.Pros: I feel that I am running on clouds. There’s plenty of padding in these shoes. This means, for the first time in years, I didn’t need to add orthotic padding inside the shoe. These are well made and steady. Your feet stay in shape as you walk and run. This means, for the first time in years, I didn’t need to add orthotic padding inside the shoe. These are well made and steady. Your feet stay in shape as you walk and run. They come up to the ankle which provide more support for the ankles too. They are really nice shoes and I wear them instead of my slip on even on my regular outing now. Because I run, my heels often hurt from the pounding on hard ground. These shoes provide cushioning for the heel too, so not only they’re functional but they take away the pain.Con: there’s only one and I am willing to overlook it because of the positives. The shoe is heavier than some other running shoes I have had. However, with all the padding, that’s expected. I have had lighter shoes but in retrospect, they didn’t provide enough comfort and cushion, hence why my heels and toes have paid the price.Would I buy these again? Absolutely yes! Also, I read some reviews saying the shoe runs big. For me, it is the opposite. I wear 7.5 however for these size 8 works better. It leaves just enough room for my toes to feel comfortable and not crushed against the toe box. I have the black and copper combo. Beautiful combo that works well for my exercise outfit. I saw the cantaloupe orange color at the store, and if that color scheme worked for me, I would’ve bought it. It was also very pretty. My only concern is weather related. I don’t think these can withstand rain- yes, I run on rainy days too , and I would hate to mess these up in rain and mud, so I have to think of a solution.

My new go-to running shoe
9 January 2024

I've had my Hoka Clifton 9 shoes now for 3 months now and logged 18 runs and 66 miles so far. I run 2-3 times a week anywhere between 3-6 miles. I am a cyclist and don't particularly enjoy running but I've learned through the years that it regulates my weight more effectively than if I simply stayed on my bike. I rotate using these shoes with two trail running shoes (Nike Pegasus 4 GTX and the Saucony Peregrine 13) and recently the Asics Gel Nimbus 25.I love these shoes, and my Garmin data backs it up. I can walk around in these shoes all day long and on days where mileage, not speed is my goal, these shoes fit the bill. I'm not seeing any abnormal wear yet since the shoe is still relatively new.Overall, this is a top performer for me.

Not at all what I expected
24 June 2024

Wore these for 2 days working. Walked about 12 miles between the 2 days and was thoroughly disappointed. Killed my feet and back, sounds like you are walking on suction cups due to the tread design. Initially felt comfortable, but 1 hour into wearing them the first day, I had wished I had another pair of shoes to change into. Felt like a soft cushiony no support experience while walking around. First day was walking between a grassy area and sidewalks. By the end of the night my feet and backed ached beyond belief. Gave them the benefit of the doubt the second day since they were new and not broken in and formed to my feet. The memory foam or whatever they use for a cushion inside the shoe has no support, just a squishy feel under your feet. I was o pumped for my first pair of Hoka shoes after reading reviews and recommendations for someone that is on their feet all day. Not sure where all the top reviews came from but this will not be one of them. If your purchase these be prepared for a very wide shoe base and platform. Kind of an odd, orthopedic look to the shoe that you do not observe from the pictures on display. Swapping out for the Bondi 8 and hoping for a better experience on my second try. Hopefully the exchange experience goes well with their advertised exchange policy and I do not get any hassles after wearing them for 2 days. I do not recommend these shoes for anyone standing or on their feet all day.

[Rewarded Review] Great running shoes to cushion impact
1 April 2024

The HOKA Women's Clifton 9 Running Sneakers are comfortable with just great cushion for those who need it. I use this pair exclusively for running (training for my first marathon) and switch between these and a pair of Altra's. These provide the cushion I need to help with knee and hip pain that I typically experience. On days I train in these shoes, I don't experience pain and find that recovery is a lot quicker. They have a decently wide toe box, but I purchased them in a wide to allow more room, because I use these for longer runs. It's my first HOKA purchase, and so far they have been my favorite running shoes. I typically wear an 8.5w or a 9, and purchased in a 9w. I love the advancements HOKA has made in the appearance of their shoes, with some of the cushion layers color-matched to the shoe so they don't look so much like orthotics. I'd buy these again if they hold up to the standard 250 - 300 miles.

[Rewarded Review] Very Nice Running Shoes
24 April 2024

I just bought these to replace the first pair of these I bought about 10 months ago. I'm new to running and these are the first pair of actual running shoes I've ever tried. So I really don't have much to compare them too. Aside from just the Sketchers I ran in before, and of course these are far more comfortable, supportive, and cushioned for running then those were. In the 10 months I've owned them they wore well, lasted long, and became better fitting and comfortable as they broke in. On initial purchase I found them tight in the toe box. I have wide feet. 2E. 2E. In fact, when I just bought the new ones, I did this from the start, and they were good from the first run. Honestly, these shoes seem great and do the job. I'm 58, male, running for a couple of years now. I'd like to try other shoes, but liked these well enough to buy the exact same pair again to use while I investigate other Hoka models and or other brands. I easily got 400 miles plus out of these...though I perhaps wore them longer than I should have. One star off for the tight toe box.
